Race 1: UBET QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

As G. Colless was to be overweight, M. McGillivray was substituted as the rider of KEREMA MORI. G. Colless was fined $100.

THE PENNY DROPPED – It was considered that the filly’s performance was uncompetitive. Trainer B. Smith indicated that he would be sending the filly for an immediate spell and it may not continue in his stable upon resuming. Nevertheless, a metropolitan bar was placed on the filly until such time as its performances improve.

Race 2: KENO F&M MAIDEN H'CAP – 1110M

CHINCH – Bumped on jumping.

UNDERTHEMISTLETOE – Steadied approaching the 200m and shifted in, and then approaching the winning post was again eased to avoid the heels of CHINCH, which was shifting in marginally.

GRACE OF MONACO – Commenced to overrace approaching the first turn and was restrained from heels.

WINERIES – Bumped on jumping.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.

Race 3: IRON JACK C,G&E MAIDEN H'CAP – 1110M

The start of this race was delayed considerably when both THE GREAT THREE and to a greater extent INFLAMMABLE proved difficult to load. Co-trainer B. Rodgers was advised that a warning would be placed on INFLAMMABLE.

STRIKING DISTANCE – M. Hellyer explained that his mount overraced in the early and middle stages and when endeavouring to restrain to obtain cover he was unable to do so because of its racing manners, resulting in it being left three wide without cover.

Race 4: LAZY YAK CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1350M

DAPPER ONE – Held up between the 500m and the 400m.

DEER MOUNTAIN – After being caught three wide, the horse was allowed to stride forward and cross to the lead near the 800m.

NIGHT ATTIRE – Bled from both nostrils, first time. Ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Race 5: FANTASTIC JACKPOTS FROM ARISTOCRAT CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1660M

LIBERTY ISLAND – Slow to muster speed, however when caught extremely wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward by its rider to race outside the lead from the 1200m, and after obtaining that position then overraced in the middle stages for some distance.

LEGAL COUNSEL – Hampered slightly when weakening approaching the 100m.

PROLIFIC BELLE – J. Lloyd was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Lloyd’s totality of whip use.

CANTILLATE – Slow into stride. Unable to obtain clear running for some distance in the straight and consequently was not able to be fully tested.

Race 6: BUNDABERG SMALL BATCH CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1660M

FAOLAN – Slow into stride. Checked severely approaching the 1400m to avoid the heels of WEAPONISED, which had broken down. Overraced in the middle stages.

RECKLESS CHOICE – Severely checked off the heels of FAOLAN approaching the 1400m. Raced three wide without cover. Apprentice B. Thornton explained that after suffering interference in the early stages of the event he was then caught racing three wide outside DIVISIONAL. He said to avoid this he elected, down the back straight, to allow his mount to stride forward in an endeavour to race outside ALMA BUBBLES. However, as the tempo of the race slowed in front, ALMA BUBBLES improved up and to the inside of BERNIE’S TIGER, which resulted in RECKLESS CHOICE remaining racing three wide without cover. He said when BERNIE’S TIGER shifted out near the 700m, it allowed him to race with cover, however, the manner in which he had to make use of the horse in the early and middle stages was a telling factor for the horse being one-paced over the concluding stages.

ALL TOO SWEET – Inconvenienced slightly approaching the 100m.

BERNIE’S TIGER – Bumped and then hampered on jumping.

GOLDEN VALLEY – Steadied when disappointed for a run on straightening.

WEAPONISED – Broke down badly approaching the 1400m and was retired from the event. On veterinary advice the horse was euthanased on humane grounds.

DIVISIONAL – Inconvenienced near the 1400m as a result of WEAPONISED breaking down. J. Lloyd explained that after receiving interference in the early stages of the race, the horse overraced in the middle stages down the back, however he was unable to hold his position approaching the 800m and when placed under pressure after the 600m the horse did not respond whatsoever. Jockey Lloyd was unable to offer any further explanation for the poor performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Co-trainer B. Rodgers advised that the gelding would be examined by the stable’s veterinary surgeon tomorrow morning, after which a decision will be made on the horse’s immediate racing future. Mr Rodgers undertook to advise stewards of the results of that veterinary examination before any further action is considered against the gelding.

Race 7: CELLARBRATIONS BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1050M

GOLDEN SHOES – Slow into stride. Held up for a short distance on straightening.

HIGH COST – Held up for a short distance prior to straightening.

WONDER BOOM – Caught three wide without cover throughout.

MAIL ESCORT – Caught 5 wide approaching the first turn, had to be ridden forward before racing outside the leader after the 600m.

ZUMIKON – Slow into stride. Laid in in the straight.

SNIPETRON – Near the 250m, after being taken in slightly by GOLDEN SHOES, was steadied to avoid the heels of HIGH COST, which shifted out. Apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of HIGH COST, was reprimanded.

Apprentice C. Gallagher, who dismounted from his mount in Race 6, after that horse had broken down badly, was examined by the Club doctor after riding in Race 7 and was cleared to fulfil upcoming engagements.

Race 8: THE IGT AUSTRALIA CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

USURP – Hampered on jumping. Raced three wide without cover.

MR TINDALL – Began awkwardly and then was momentarily straightened by its rider from its wide barrier. Hung in badly in the home straight.
