The start of this race was delayed when ALPINE DANCE had to be resaddled behind the barriers.

CAPITULATE – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner.

CARPE NOCTEM – When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, E. Ljung stated that the filly did not travel well throughout and raced greenly today and may not have been suited by the three weeks since its last start. Trainer B. Currie advised that the horse may be better suited racing on the speed in future starts and he will review the horse’s current preparation before determining whether the horse will be sent for a spell.

CRAIGLEA VIRTUE – Improved three wide from the rear of the field when the pace slowed entering the back straight to cross to race outside the leader near the 1000m.

LET’S GO BOBBY – Bumped at the start.

Race 2: ETU MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

HARRYANDTHETIGER – Inconvenienced at the start.

MY COUSIN STEVE – When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, jockey J. Lloyd advised stewards that after being positioned outside the lead the horse commenced to lay in from the 500m and weaken. He added that in his opinion the horse would be better suited to rain-affected track conditions as he felt it may have been uncomfortable on today’s firm racing surface.

ALLEGRO VITA – Restrained at the start from a wide barrier to gain a position close to the rail.

CHIKORITA – Jumped awkwardly and lost some ground. Had to be restrained from heels when overracing near the 600m.

SINE CURVE – Began awkwardly and lost some ground. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Commenced to hang out from the 600m and made the home turn extremely wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer N. Doyle was advised that the filly must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3 retrospective.

Race 3: CFMEU – CONSTRUCTION & GENERAL BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1110M

DIAMONDS ARE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

COMIC STORY – Hung in badly under pressure in the home straight, which prevented J. Lloyd from riding his mount out in his normal manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Co-trainer B. Rodgers was advised that the gelding must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again. Mr Rodgers advised stewards that the horse would be sent for a spell.

VALFIERNO – Following a report from the stablehand that when the gelding arrived on course it had some swelling in the neck region, which they felt may have been from an insect bite, the horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race. A further veterinary examination behind the barriers also passed the gelding fit to race.

Race 4: TURNER FREEMAN LAWYERS (THE SHIRLEY WHITE CUP) C,G&E CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M

LYRICAL PRINCE – Rider M. McGillivray advised stewards that it was evident to him post-race that the gelding had got its tongue over the bit and as a result had choked down, which explained the poor performance. He added that in consultation with the trainer it was recommended that the gelding would have the addition of a tongue tie for its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

P’ARTIE TOWN – Slow to begin.

PRINCE OF FLINDERS – Slow to begin.

Race 5: QLD COUNCIL OF UNIONS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M

AL SABELLA – Raced three wide throughout. Hampered near the 350m.

DER SIEGER – Raced three wide without cover.

DEVILLAIN – Had to be eased when tightened for room near the 1000m. Had to be checked from heels when overracing near the 800m and then continued to overrace for some distance following this incident.

HELL OFA GOOD SORT – Inclined to lay in near the 1000m away from DER SIEGER.

MATCH DAY – Slow to begin.

Race 6: CFMEU M & E DIVISION QLD CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1110M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford M. McGillivray, the rider of 2nd placegetter PAPER TRADE, the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ footage in the home straight.

NAVY – Had to be restrained from heels when overracing passing the 800m. Inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

AIRACOBRA – Raced wide throughout.

CONQUERMORE – Began awkwardly and was inconvenienced shortly after.

SHEZ A ROCKIN’TOFF – Raced three wide without cover.

FEW TOO MANY – Tightened for room approaching the 800m and made heavy contact with the running rail. Got its head up when being restrained from heels passing the 600m. Stable representative Ms D. Lee advised that the gelding trialled well recently at Deagon and being first up today from a spell the stable were expecting a forward showing. Ms Lee added that FEW TOO MANY has raced well over a similar distance previously.

Race 7: UNITED VOICE CLASS 2 PLATE – 1650M

As G. Colless was indisposed due to injury, R. Maloney was substituted as the rider of KITTEAU.

NAPOLEON’S WAR – L. Cassidy reported that his mount laid out from the 800m.

CHOREOGRAPH – Had to be restrained near the 800m to avoid the heels of KORODON. M. McNab, the rider of KORODON, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in from a three-wide position to a one-off position when not fully clear of CHOREOGRAPH. Jockey McNab’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 23 September and expire at midnight on Monday 1 October 2018. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey McNab’s good riding record, his admission of guilt and that the carelessness was in the low range.

KITTEAU – Raced three wide throughout.

KORODON – Raced three wide in the early stages before crossing to race outside the leader near the 900m.

LUCKY CAPTAIN – Clipped heels and blundered badly after travelling a short distance.

MISS SEVERINA – Reared at the start and lost ground. Raced wide without cover over the final 700m.

ESCADAY – Raced very fiercely approaching the first turn and as a result had to be checked from the heels of CHOREOGRAPH. Overraced for some distance in the middle stages. Stewards sought an explanation from M. McGillivray regarding his riding of ESCADAY approaching and rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Jockey McGillivray stated that his mount pulled very hard in the early and middle stages and approaching the home turn was travelling well and he momentarily attempted a run between CHOREOGRAPH and KITTEAU but soon afterwards CHOREOGRAPH shifted out and this run closed. As a result, he was held up on the heels of GRANDE CASADORA and then had to alter course to the inside passing the 200m in order to improve. Stewards noted his explanation.

GRANDE CASADORA – Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained to avoid heels near the 1300m. Raced three wide throughout.

WISDOM TREE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings and a swab sample was taken.
