GENERAL

As R. Maloney was indisposed due to illness, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: Cascade QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1615m

A MAN TO MATCH – Jumped away awkwardly. Held up for clear running approaching the home straight and near the 350m was taken outwards across the heels of CAPITULATE to obtain clear running.

AILEACH – Shortly after the start became unbalanced after making contact with A MAN TO MATCH. Jockey J. Orman reported that after being caught wide in the early stages and no pace in the race he elected to improve forward.

LOPE FOR JOYA – Jumped away awkwardly, resulting in it being slow into stride.

Race 2: Pullman Brisbane Airport F&M Class 6 Plate – 1350m

DAPPER ONE – Eased passing the 800m when OUR JAMAICA rolled inwards.

OUR JAMAICA – Buffeted on jumping away between SISTER PATTI and SHUDA KNOWN BETTER. Had to be eased outwards from the heels of STELLA VICTORIA, which lost ground shortly after passing the 900m.

ON A HIGH – Slow to begin. Laid in in the home straight.

SHUDA KNOWN BETTER – As apprentice M. Murphy was to be overweight, J. Murphy was substituted as the rider of the horse. Apprentice M. Murphy was fined $200. Rider J. Murphy dropped his whip near the 200m.

STELLA VICTORIA – Shortly after passing the 900m lost ground after getting its head up when being steadied whilst racing tight to the inside of SISTER PATTI.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to GOOD 3.

Race 3: Happy Birthday Clem Hogan Class 3 Plate – 2020m

LATINO LOVER – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be not striding freely in front. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

POLEMIC – Near the 1300m had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on heels.

SIR BARNABUS – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward from the inside barrier. Failed to muster speed and raced midfield. Raced keenly from the 1600m until passing the 1400m. Near the 600m laid outwards and had to be eased off heels and shortly after was buffeted when racing tight.

PETER PARKER – Eased down from the 400m. The performance of the horse was considered unacceptable. Trainer P. Jenkins was advised that a metropolitan bar would be placed on the gelding until its form improved. Mr Jenkins advised he would discuss with connections whether the horse would be retired from racing and would advise stewards accordingly if that was the case. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

MUCH DEEPER – Due to the slow tempo in the middle stages was shifted out and ridden forward to race outside the lead.

ROMAKASH – Near the 1700m became unbalanced after making contact with CLEVER BLAZE. Laid inwards between the 600m and 400m.

Race 4: Simon George Sells Strawberries Open H’ cap – 1200m

RAIDO – Raced wide from the 600m.

TAWFIQ BOY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in and proved difficult to ride out in the straight.

POWERLINE – As L. Cassidy was to be overweight, D. Smith was substituted as the rider of that horse. Jockey Cassidy was fined $200. Slow to begin. Lost its left hind plate in running.

Race 5: Kelso Wood Memorial F&M Benchmark H’cap – 1050m

WINNING KISS – Broke through the barriers, struck its head, examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to have blood in its left nostril, was declared a late scratching at 2.26 pm on veterinary advice.

NOT SURPRISING – Lunged forward in the barriers, sustaining a laceration to its forehead, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 2.26 pm on veterinary advice.

The following deductions to betting were applicable:

13 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
13 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the winner
13 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd placegetter
15 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd placegetter

DAM WONDERFUL – Raced wide throughout.

BLUE SEATTLE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

SMARTYPY – Slow to begin.

COOL DRAFTS – Showed no early pace despite the urgings of its rider. Became unbalanced near the 100m when bumped.

AULTBEA – Broke through the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

Race 6: Canadian Club Melbourne Cup Day CG&E Benchmark 75 H’cap - 1050m

NATIONAL TRAIL – Caught 3 wide without cover from the 600m.

ROUGH EDDIE – Caught 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.

JIM ‘N’ ANDY – Slow into stride.

BEAU ARROW – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off hind leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

DANSU – Slow into stride.

Race 7: Moet & Chandon Chairman’s Club Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1615m

MONACO PLAYBOY – Checked when crowded for room near the 1400m. Apprentice C. Frater-Hill, the rider of GIVUS A CUDDLE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1400m she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount shifting in, which resulted in MONACO PLAYBOY being checked. Apprentice Frater-Hill’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 7 October and to expire at midnight on Monday 15 October.2018.

FOXY AFFAIR – Slow into stride.

SWEET ADALINE – Hampered shortly after the start.

Race 8: Sky Racing CG&E Class 6 Plate – 1350m

FORTENSKY – Slow into stride.

THE RUMOUR FILE – Restrained at the start from its wide gate.

MOST EXALTED – Slow into stride. Bumped at the 200m.

REACH FOR HEAVEN – When questioned regarding racing in a rearward position, jockey J. Lloyd stated that he was instructed to race midfield with cover, however, after jumping from a wide barrier he was caught wide and then elected to go back in an attempt to find cover. He further stated he commenced a run from the 600m, however the gelding had run on only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

GOOD TIME CHARLIE – Bumped at the 200m.

Race 9: Mount Franklin Open H’cap – 2020m

Whilst runners were parading for this race significant rain fell, therefore stewards downgraded the track to SOFT 5.

MY GIULIANO – Held up for clear running approaching the turn into the home straight.

INGEEGOODBE – Steadied off the heels of BALIUS shortly after passing the winning post on the first occasion. Apprentice C. Frater-Hill (BALIUS) was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

REALLY REILLY – Slow into stride. Got its head up shortly after the start when being restrained. Raced 3 wide without cover.

BALIUS – Began awkwardly.
