SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester in relation to his failure to arrive on course on time to fulfil his engagement in Race 3 at Ipswich on Friday 28 December 2018. After hearing his explanation, stewards adjourned the matter to enable apprentice Guthmann-Chester to provide documentation to support his reason for failing to arrive on course on time.
Race 1: GOLD COAST YEARLING SALES BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1200M
ALASSAK – Contacted on the hind quarters by IGNITE THE LIGHT near the 150m and became unbalanced.
BRAINS – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure over the final 150m.
IGNITE THE LIGHT – Brushed by PIERIDAE at the start. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight and when attempting a narrow run to the inside of RISING STOCK near the 250m made heavy contact with the running rail, and then continued to be held up for the remainder of the home straight and went to the line not fully tested. Made contact with the hind quarters of ALASSAK near the 100m.
MEWSTONE ROCK – After being a little slow to begin, then had to be eased when tightened for room soon after the start between LIMERICK MOON and QUEENOFTHEPIXIES, which was taken inwards by IGNITE THE LIGHT. Had to be steadied approaching the 500m when momentarily tightened for room by BRAINS. Held up for clear running from the 250m until near the 100m where the rider was obliged to alter course to the outside of the heels of PIERIDAE when that runner commenced to weaken.
PIERIDAE – Shifted inwards at the start and brushed IGNITE THE LIGHT. Overraced in the early stages.
Race 2: TAB RACING QLD SUMMER PROVINCIAL SERIES FINAL H’CAP – 1350M
DEITCH was declared a late scratching at 12:59 pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on DEITCH be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 12:59 pm:

4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #10
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4
Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
FOMO – Bumped by BOLD ENDEAVOUR at the start. Raced three wide. Shifted in under pressure over the final stages and brushed DAPPER ONE, preventing R. Fradd from riding the gelding out in his normal manner.
MOTION GRANTED – Trainer B. Baldwin advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden back in the field. The horse settled at the rear of the field.
CORAL BAY – Had to be steadied from the heels of FEW TOO MANY near the 1200m when that runner shifted in slightly. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 200m.
ECKER ROAD – Hung out in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider. This resulted in SO INVINCIBLE, TIME TO PLAY and FEW TOO MANY being taken wider.
SO INVINCIBLE – Slow to begin. Taken wider in the early stages.
TIME TO PLAY – Taken wider in the early stages.
AKAGE – Slow to begin. Had to be checked near the 1200m when tightened for room by TIME TO PLAY, which was taken in slightly by DAPPER ONE.
BOLD ENDEAVOUR – Knuckled badly at the start and lost ground, shifted out and bumped FOMO. Raced three wide without cover.
OKANAGAN MISS – Hampered at the start when bumped heavily by FOMO. Taken wider by FEW TOO MANY near the 800m and raced four wide for the remainder of the event.
PRECIPITATE – Hampered at the start when bumped heavily by FOMO. Had to be eased from heels near the 1200m.
FEW TOO MANY – Taken wider in the early stages. Overraced in the early stages and when overracing near the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of DAPPER ONE and shifted out, which resulted in OKANAGAN MISS being taken wider and having to race four wide for the remainder of the event.
DAPPER ONE – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight.
Race 3: MAGIC MILLIONS SHOOT OUT QUALITY – 2200M
CHOPPA was a late scratching at 11:45 am following advice from trainer G. Sitek that whilst being loaded on the float the gelding reared up and struck its head, sustaining an injury. Mr Sitek was advised that CHOPPA will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
The start of this race was delayed significantly when CAPITAL GAIN, which cast the off fore plate during its preliminary, required farrier attention behind the barriers.
KIWIA – H. Coffey was reminded of his obligations regarding use of the whip prior to the 100m.
TUMULTUOUS – Blundered near the 1200m after clipping the heels of ENDLESS DAYS, which rolled outwards when the pace steadied.
OUTRAGED – Slow to begin.
DECONSTRUCTED – Raced three wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to race outside the leader near the 1100m.
SOFIE’S GOLD CLASS – Restrained in the early stages to gain a position close to the rail and then overraced and as a result was taken three wide from the 1300m and raced in that position for the remainder of the event.
Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS FALVELON QUALITY – 1110M
DOTHRAKI – Had to be steadied from the heels of RINGO’S A ROCKSTAR rounding the home turn when that runner shifted out when not quite clear.
HAVASAY – Restrained at the start from a wide barrier to gain a position close to the rail.
IRISH CONSTABULARY – Shifted out in order to improve near the 150m and brushed RINGO’S A ROCKSTAR.
VOLKOFF – Slow to begin.
FIERY HEIGHTS – As no other rider was available at the weight, stewards permitted J. Orman to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its allocated weight.
FIT FOR PURPOSE – Kicked the rail in the parade ring, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Slow to begin. Made heavy contact with the running rail near the 900m when tightened for room by IN HIS STRIDE, which hung inwards in and away from OBERLAND, which was racing tight to the inside of ISAURIAN.
RINGO’S A ROCKSTAR – Overraced in the middle stages and hung out from the 600m until rounding the home turn. Brushed by IRISH CONSTABULARY near the 150m.
MISERY – Raced three wide without cover.
Race 5: MAGIC MILLIONS B.J. MCLACHLAN STAKES – 1200M
WOWSERS – Hung out rounding the home turn.
COURSESHEWILL – Severely hampered at the start when bumped heavily by VINROSE. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Taken wider on the home turn.
VINROSE – Jumped very awkwardly and shifted out, bumping COURSESHEWILL.
JUST ZERENE – Slow to begin. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Taken wider on the home turn. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS VO ROGUE PLATE – 1350M
CHESS STAR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
THE FIRE TRAP – Bumped by MALAHIDE near the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was galloped on behind and had sustained lacerations to both hind legs.
MAGIC FOX – Checked approaching the 600m as a consequence of apprentice J. Murphy being dislodged when GRANNY RED SHOES clipped heels and blundered badly.
OUTBACK BARBIE – Checked approaching the 600m as a consequence of apprentice J. Murphy being dislodged when GRANNY RED SHOES clipped heels and blundered badly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and the 100m.
GRANNY RED SHOES – Shifted out and bumped PERSUADER approaching the 600m and then shifted in and clipped the heels of PENNINO and blundered badly, dislodging apprentice J. Murphy. MALAHIDE, MAGIC FOX, OUR TONINICCONI, OUTBACK BARBIE and PLUMARO were all checked as a consequence of apprentice J. Murphy being dislodged. After being attended to by paramedics and the Club doctor, apprentice Murphy was transported to Royal Brisbane Hospital. Stewards will inquire into the reasons for the incident at a time and date to be fixed when apprentice Murphy is available to give evidence.
PLUMARO – Checked approaching the 600m as a consequence of apprentice J. Murphy being dislodged when GRANNY RED SHOES clipped heels and blundered badly.
MALAHIDE – Checked approaching the 600m as a consequence of apprentice J. Murphy being dislodged when GRANNY RED SHOES clipped heels and blundered badly. Made contact with THE FIRE TRAP near the 300m when shifting outwards to obtain clear running.
LIGHT UP THE ROOM – Improved to the inside of SPIRIT’S CHOICE near the 500m where there was insufficient room and soon afterwards clipped the heels of that runner and blundered.
PERSUADER – Raced three wide throughout.
SPIRIT’S CHOICE – Overraced in the early stages.
OUR TONINICCONI – Slow to begin. Severely checked approaching the 600m as a consequence of apprentice J. Murphy being dislodged when GRANNY RED SHOES clipped heels and blundered badly and as a result trailed the field for the remainder of the event.
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS THE BUFFERING – 1350M
As a replacement ambulance was required as a result of apprentice J. Murphy being transported to hospital after Race 6, the starting time of this event was rescheduled to 4:30 pm, with no alteration to the starting times of Races 8 and 9.
FLOW – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight and went to the line not fully tested by its rider. Lost the near hind plate in running.
SHOGUN SUN – Overraced badly in the middle stages and had to be restrained from the heels of FLOW on a number of occasions. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
Race 8: MAGIC MILLIONS BERNBOROUGH H’CAP – 1600M
NICCANOVA – Hampered soon after the start. This resulted in the horse settling further back in the field than anticipated. Had to be restrained from the heels of DREAMS APLENTY near the 700m and shifted out. Became awkwardly placed at the heels of GAULOIS near the 500m.
CANTBUYBETTER – B. Prebble reported that his mount felt awkward in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short-striding in front.
DREAMS APLENTY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
GAULOIS – Raced wide throughout with cover. Hampered when taken wider near the 700m by NICCANOVA, which shifted out.
SPUR LE JOUER – Compounded badly in the home straight. L. Tarrant reported that his mount was galloped on badly during the event.
SKYTREK – Slow to begin.
KAY KAY BOY – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain the lead near the 1000m.
CONSTANTINE – Hampered soon after the start.
Race 9: MAGIC MILLIONS NUDGEE STAKES – 1200M
GYPSY SECRET, which refused to load, was declared a late scratching at 5:44 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on GYPSY SECRET be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 5:44 pm:

Trainer C. Garland will be advised that the horse will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.
JORDA – Became awkward at the heels of OUR CROWN MISTRESS near the 50m and over the final stages.
MAGIC ALIBI – Had to be restrained from the heels of PEDRENA when overracing near the 700m.
STELLA VICTORIA – Lost both hind plates in running.
OF THE DAY – Lost the off fore plate in running.
FEMME FIREBALL – D. Smith reported that the tempo of the race did not suit his mount and as a result the mare got back further in the field than anticipated and was unable to run on with the fast last sectional.
JADENTOM – Slow to begin. Had to be checked near the 900m when tightened for room to the inside of JORDA, which was carried inwards when OF THE DAY (B. Stewart) was carried inwards slightly whilst improving to the inside of PEDRENA (J. Byrne), which was steadying and shifted inwards slightly. In the circumstances, stewards felt there was insufficient evidence to substantiate any charges, however, jockey J. Byrne was reminded of his obligations to ensure sufficient clearance to other runners when shifting ground, and jockey B. Stewart was also reminded to take greater care when attempting to improve to the inside of other runners.
