Race 1: CANADIAN CLUB QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M
 
DEVILS MARBLES – Became unbalanced shortly after the start when bumped and crowded by KENNEDY TERRACE, which shifted in whilst being eased when awkwardly placed to the inside of WOOLSEY.
 
EMOTIVE MOUNTAIN – Slow to begin after jumping away awkwardly. Slightly inconvenienced shortly after passing the 600m when STARRY BEAUTY shifted outwards.
 
KENNEDY TERRACE – Slow to begin after jumping away awkwardly and making contact with DEVILS MARBLES. Had to be eased near the 700m whilst racing greenly after racing up on to the heels of VIENNA SPIRIT. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding returned to the enclosure with several speedy cuts and deep lacerations to the nearside hock.
 
STARRY BEAUTY – Apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester, who was unable to claim his full allowance, was permitted by stewards to ride the filly when no other apprentice was available at the weight. Apprentice Guthmann-Chester was fined $200. Slow into stride. Carried wider making the turn into the straight when DEVILS MARBLES shifted outwards.
 
Race 2: GIRLS DAY OUT RACEDAY MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
 
As L. Cassidy was to be overweight, R. Stewart was substituted as the rider of MYSTIC BROOK. L. Cassidy was fined $200.
 
HEAVENLY JOURNEY – Commenced to overrace near the 800m and had to be eased off the heels of BRAHMA ARMOUR. Made contact with JOYMAKER making the turn into the straight.
 
LOTUS LEAF – Slow to begin. Raced three wide with cover from the 800m.
 
TAVISFACTION – Raced wide throughout.
 
BUB’S GOLD – Apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester, who was unable to claim his full allowance, was permitted by stewards to ride the filly when no other apprentice was available at the weight. Apprentice Guthmann-Chester was fined $200.
 
JOYMAKER – Made contact with HEAVENLY JOURNEY making the turn into the straight.
 
Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIPS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1110M
 
CONNOISSEUR – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
KID FLASH – Laid outwards in the straight.
 
WINDS OF CHANGE – Slow to begin.
 
GET STUCK IN – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: DOREEN BIRD FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1110M
 
AS IT LIES – Slow to begin after jumping away awkwardly. Hung out badly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than a poor post-race recovery. Trainer B. Stanley was advised that the mare must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again.
 
HELFUCHI – Slow into stride after jumping away awkwardly. Made contact with WINTER PASSAGE shortly after the start.
 
GOODONYA SONJA – Trainer L. Gough was cautioned for the horse’s late arrival on course. A routine pre-race sample was taken from GOODONYA SONJA.
 
LEGAL GIRL – Slow to begin.
 
WINTER PASSAGE – Made contact with HELFUCHI shortly after the start.
 
Race 5: TAB FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
 
MISS BENETEAU was declared a late scratching at 1:37 pm following advice from trainer N. McCall that the mare had sustained an injury in the float en route to the course. Ms McCall was advised that MISS BENETEAU will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
CRYSTAL AMOR – Dipped and made contact with GYPSY’S TIP on jumping.
 
PORTUGUESE TART – Held up for clear running between the 500m and the 300m.
 
GYPSY’S TIP – Bumped on jumping.
 
SATYRICON – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
LADY RINGO – Had a tendency to lay outwards in the straight.
 
Race 6: WWW.BRC.COM.AU COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
 
LE BEAU RENARD – Bumped by LAYLA’S LAD on a number of occasions between the 1300m and the 1100m.
 
LAYLA’S LAD – Bumped LE BEAU RENARD on a number of occasions between the 1300m and the 1100m. Inconvenienced near the 200m when AL MAGICO shifted outwards abruptly passing the 200m.
 
Race 7: HAMILTON HOTEL BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1615M
 
BOOM BOOM EPIC – Jumped away awkwardly and in so doing made contact with HIDDEN BUDGET. Became awkward on the heels of ARAZONA when attempting to come to the outside to obtain clear running at the 300m and thereafter continued to hang in and again became awkward on the heels of ARAZONA near the 200m.
 
PLEASED – Raced keenly in the back straight.
 
PINCH PASSION – Slow to begin.
 
HIDDEN BUDGET – Bumped by BOOM BOOM EPIC on jumping.
 
Race 8: KIRIN CLASS 2 PLATE – 1615M
 
Subject to further submissions and after taking evidence from trainer G. Cornish and stable representative Ms S. Drake, stewards penalised Mr Cornish $400 for failing to scratch ODDFELLOW, which was a late scratching at 11:33 am, by the required time. Mr Cornish will also be advised that ODDFELLOW will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
EPIC RANT – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
NAKED – Raced wide from the 600m.
 
TOGA PICTA – Slow to begin. Got its head up when racing keenly passing the 1400m. When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer D. Murphy advised that at its run two starts ago at Ipswich on 5 December 2018 it hard raced forward and had pulled hard and consequently failed to run on. She added that at its previous start at Doomben on 19 December 2018 she was satisfied with its performance, having not been beaten far in a larger field, and she believed the gelding was better suited in today’s smaller field.
