BRC.COM.AU F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M FEARLESS QUEEN – Became awkwardly placed on the heels of AMERICAN LOVE between the 300m and the 150m when reluctant to come to the outside when laying inwards. STEPPED IN PAINT – Proved very difficult to settle in the early and middle stages. AMERICAN LOVE – Proved very difficult to settle in the early and middle stages and as a result hung outwards from the 800m. TRUE QUALITY – Lost ground when crowded on jumping between AMERICAN LOVE and SPEND UP, which jumped awkwardly inwards. Laid inwards over the final 150m. DE BELLE OF CANNES – Slow to begin. SPEND UP – Resaddled at the barriers, resulting in a slight delay to the start. Race 2: LUNAR NEW YEAR RACEDAY C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M RABBIT HUNTER – Jumped away awkwardly and in so doing made contact with the hind quarters of KRUGER. Shifted out and bumped SUPER KIDS near the 800m. Became awkward at the heels of KRUGER near the 500m and hung out despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in significant interference to SUPER KIDS. Hung out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that the gelding must trial satisfactorily before racing again. CASH ON FIRE – Raced wide throughout without cover. SUPER KIDS – Bumped by RABBIT HUNTER near the 800m. Severely checked and lost significant ground at the 500m when tightened for room between RABBIT HUNTER, which hung out badly, and CASH ON FIRE and as a result trailed the field for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off hind leg and minor abrasions to the near foreleg. KRUGER – Eased when crowded near the 1100m to the inside of PINCH VISTA, which was carried inwards by BENNO FIRST (C. Bayliss). Apprentice C. Bayliss was reprimanded. MEXICAN YELL – Slow to begin. GRAND WHISPER – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. MIGHTY MOOSE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIP QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1110M REAL FOXY LADY – Jumped away awkwardly. SIZZLING BABE – Slow to begin after jumping away extremely awkwardly. UNDER THE CUSH – Slightly inconvenienced and had to be eased outwards near the 800m when CHEERS SWEETIE shifted outwards abruptly. Race 4: TAB CLASS 5 PLATE – 1200M THE MECHANIC – Lost the off hind plate in running. SECRET MO – Jumped away awkwardly. Race 5: GIRLS DAY OUT RACEDAY BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1110M TYCOON ZIP – Raced wide throughout. FABULONH – Slow into stride. Laid inwards between the 350m and the 200m. MITTERE – Slightly slow to begin and was then bumped by PORK AND BEANS shortly after the start. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, B. Stewart stated that after being slightly slow to begin the colt had to be ridden early to maintain a forward position, after which it commenced to race keenly in the middle stages and failed to run on in the straight and disappointed. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and laboured breathing. PORK AND BEANS – Bumped MITTERE shortly after the start. Lost the off hind plate in running. LIPS ’N HIPS – Raced wide without cover throughout. Had to be eased making the turn into the straight when ALASKA shifted outwards after being carried outwards slightly by MITTERE. Race 6: ASCOT GREEN QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1350M BOLD WARRIOR – Trainer G. Doughty advised that it would be the intention for the gelding, which has been going forward in its races, to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Laid out under pressure over the final 200m. ADORADIVA – Examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and passed fit to race. Had to be checked outwards shortly after the start away from the heels of ARCHER’S TREASURE, which hung outwards. Held up for clear running passing the 200m. MISHANI ROMAN – Slow to begin. Race 7: WEDDINGS AT BRC CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow M. Cahill, the rider of 2nd placegetter PRINCE OF TIE, to view the stewards’ patrol footage in the straight to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner CONSTANT FLIGHT. After viewing the videos jockey Cahill indicated he did not wish to lodge an objection and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. SAXTON ROCK – Jumped away awkwardly. GUN BOLT – Jumped away awkwardly. Made contact with COUNT CUMANI on a couple of occasions near the 500m and laid outwards rounding the home turn. COUNT CUMANI – Made contact with GUN BOLT on a couple of occasions near the 500m. PRINCE OF TIE – Laid out under pressure over the final 200m. Race 8: SKY THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL OPEN H’CAP – 1350M PEDRENA – Raced wide throughout. BALBOA ROCKS – Slow to begin. APOLOBOOM – Raced wide in the early stages. CORNROW – Had to be checked shortly after the start when BUSHY (D. Smith) shifted in when insufficiently clear. D. Smith pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and his licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 16 January and expire at midnight on Thursday 24 January 2019. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Smith’s good riding record and that the carelessness was in the low range. Race 9: MOUNT FRANKLIN BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1630M RED PHANTOM – Steadied when tightened for room at the start between LILAKAI, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, and THE KINGDOM, which was taken out by TATCEE. HOUSE OF DRAMA – Had to shift out abruptly near the 500m to avoid the heels of the tiring PRINCELY BLAZE. LILAKAI – Raced three wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to race outside the leader by the 800m. PRINCELY BLAZE – Weakened badly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer K. Martin was advised that prior to racing again the horse must trial satisfactorily and a veterinary clearance and the results of an ECG are to be provided.
