As R. Maloney was overweight stewards permitted M. Cahill to be substituted as the rider of SAVVY ACQUISITION. Jockey Maloney was fined $200.

After being loaded MR MISUNDERSTOOD became fractious in the gates, reared, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the near fore leg. MR MISUNDERSTOOD was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12.59 p.m. acting on veterinary advice. SPECIAL THING which was in the adjacent stall was also removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. All monies invested on MR MISUNDERSTOOD were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 12.59 p.m.:-

6 cents in the dollar for the win - #8 (MISS SARA)
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner - #8 (MISS SARA)
5 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - #4 (LILAKAI)
12 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - #3 (LA FIREBIRD)

Trainer M. Frappell was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate and produce a veterinary clearance for MR MISUNDERSTOOD prior to the gelding racing again. Mr Frappell advised it would now be his intention to send the gelding for a spell.

SAVVY ACQUISITION – Overraced in the early stages.

CORONATION GLADE – Overraced in the early stages.

WENDOUREE RED – When overracing shifted out near the 1300m and was allowed to stride forward outside the leader near the 1200m.

LA FIREBIRD – Due to the slow tempo had to be restrained from the heels of LILAKAI on a number of occasions near the 1300m.  Improved near the 800m between SPECIAL THING and LILAKI, where there was insufficient room and had to be restrained.

Race 2: LUNAR NEW YEAR RACEDAY CLASS 5 PLATE – 1650M

BRATISLAVA – Raced wide from the 1200m, then raced three wide and was allowed to stride forward to race outside the leader near the 900m.

Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIPS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1110M

KNOCK TOFF – Held up rounding the home turn and until near the 200m where it improved into a narrow run after passing the 100m and soon afterwards was brushed by MAKES YOU THINK, which shifted out slightly under pressure.

CRAZY POPS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

KID FLASH – Stewards questioned jockey J. Lloyd regarding the reason for him restraining his mount at the start. Jockey Lloyd stated it was his intention to trail MAKES YOU THINK throughout, which had drawn to his inside, hoping that runner would settle outside the leader MEET MR TAYLOR. Jockey Lloyd added that when ONE STRYKE crossed MAKES YOU THINK near the 800m this resulted in him settling at the rear of the field, albeit only three lengths from the leading division. Jockey Lloyd further added that he was able to improve into the race from the 600m and he was mindful to maintain cover until straightening as KID FLASH was inclined to lay out at its most previous start when exposed rounding the home turn.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 4: TAB QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

Trainer D. Forster was fined $100 for the late declaration of R. Stewart as the rider of FLASH PATCH.

ZAMZARA -  Began awkwardly and lost ground.

MAGIC TRICK -  Began very awkwardly and shifted out and bumped heavily with LAST EDITION. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

LAST EDITION – Severely hampered at the start when bumped by MAGIC TRICK. Brushed and became unbalanced inside the 200m. Raced three wide with cover throughout.

KASITA – Restrained at the start from the wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail.

SIZZLING BABE – Held up rounding the home turn.

CLAIRVUE MISSY – Near the 200m shifted out to improve around the heels of MAGIC TRICK.

STARRY BEAUTY – Shifted away from CLAIRVUE MISSY near the 200m, resulting in it brushing LAST EDITION.

Following the running of this event jockey J. Lloyd was stood down by the Club’s Doctor and replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 5: GIRLS DAY OUT RACEDAY MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

FINAL ORDER – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MIOCIC. Over the final stages shifted out to avoid the heels of MIOCIC and in doing so made heavy contact with FIZZ.

PEPPI LA FEW – Overraced in the early stages.

STEPPED IN PAINT – Bumped heavily on the hind quarters near the 500m and became unbalanced.

FIZZ – Bumped heavily by MIOCIC over the final stages and became unbalanced. Jockey R. Maloney (MIOCIC) was advised to at all times keep his mounts on a straight course when under pressure.

FEARLESS QUEEN – Near the 50m had to be steadied when tightened for room.

SLIGHTLY SHADY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

NARDA SHAR – Jockey N. Thomas reported at scale that his mount was inclined to lay out for a major part of the race.

Race 6: ASCOT GREEN FILLIES & MARES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1110M

GOODONYA SONJA – Knuckled at the start.

CYMBALISM - Slow to begin and then had to be checked from the heels of BRILEE ROSE, which shifted out. This resulted in CYMBALISM settling at the rear of the field, which is in contrast to its usual racing pattern of leading or being on the pace.

ZARREEN – Passing the 200m was momentarily steadied when tightened for room.

Race 7: WEDDINGS AT BRC FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1350M

LITTLE JOHN – Soon after straightening had to be steadied when tightened for room between SENCHEL’S VOICE and SELFIE, which shifted out when not fully clear.
