ZIP A DEE DOO DAH – Commenced to overrace near the 1400m and had to be restrained from the heels of INGEEGOODBE, then continued to overrace in the middle stages and was allowed to improve three wide from the 1000m to cross to the position outside the leader near the 800m.

Race 2: QLD CHINESE JOCKEY CLUB 2-Y-O PLATE – 1100M

B. Stewart was dislodged from VINCERE VOLARE whilst proceeding to the barriers, taking no harm from the incident. B. Stewart was cleared to fulfil his ride.

BRONKS – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with IAMICAN. Bumped by CENTREFIRE approaching the 1000m and became unbalanced. Raced greenly throughout.

XANTHUS – Steadied near the 1000m.

CENTREFIRE – Shifted out and made heavy contact with BRONKS approaching the 1000m. Had to be checked from the heels of IAMICAN near the 700m. R. Wiggins, the rider of IAMICAN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CENTREFIRE, causing that runner to be checked when tightened between VINCERE VOLARE and IAMICAN. R. Wiggins’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 23 February and expire at midnight on Saturday 2 March 2019. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Wiggins’ very good record in relation to this rule and that the interference was in the low range.

IAMICAN – Became unbalanced and lost ground after being bumped heavily by BRONKS on jumping.

Race 3: ASIAN PLUS OPEN H’CAP – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed initially when EL CAMPEADOR had to have its near hind plate reattached by the farrier in the enclosure. There was a further delay to the start when EL CAMPEADOR cast its off hind plate on the way to the barriers and it had to be reattached by the Club’s farrier.

FIRST CRUSH – Raced three wide in the early stages until being allowed to stride forward to race outside the leader near the 1000m.

ASTORIA – Checked at the start when tightened for room between EMPHASIS and AKAGE, both of which shifted ground. Forced wider rounding the home turn.

AKAGE – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in. Overraced in the early and middle stages and on a number of occasions had to be restrained from the heels of BRATISLAVA. Shifted three wide when overracing and was allowed to stride forward and gain the position outside the leader near the 800m.

Race 4: KEIBA ASIATIC BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1600M

GREEN EMPIRE – When questioned, apprentice C. Gallagher stated that he was held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight, and passing the 200m he was attempting to improve between DUTCH TREAT and LITTLE JOHN, but soon afterwards DUTCH TREAT, when weakening, shifted out under pressure, which resulted in him being disappointed for that run and having to alter course to the outside over the final stages in order to improve. His explanation was accepted.

REIBY THE RED – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

GET STUCK IN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

DUTCH TREAT – Overraced in the early and middle stages and leaving the 900m became awkward at the heels of LITTLE JOHN and shifted out and was allowed to stride forward.

PONYTALES – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a 3 cm cut below the mare’s offside eye.

PINCH PASSION – Slow to begin.

Race 5: TROPICAL FRESH CLASS 3 PLATE – 1110M

KNOCK TOFF – Restrained at the start from a wide barrier to gain a position close to the rail.

SHOWUS YA DIAMONDS – Bumped at the start. Had to be eased near the 800m when tightened for room between RAIDEN and BEACON, which shifted in when not fully clear. The veterinary surgeon reported that the mare was heat stressed post-race.

INTRINSIC – Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SHOWUS YA DIAMONDS. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer K. Lees was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.

SHALWA – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, B. Stewart explained that he was obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of TOUJOURS L’AMOUR from the 700m until approaching the home turn, which resulted in his mount becoming unbalanced and changing stride on a number of occasions. Jockey Stewart added that bearing in mind this occurrence he was not disappointed with today’s performance.

TOUJOURS L’AMOUR – Inclined to lay in during the middle stages. J. Lloyd reported that his mount did not feel comfortable in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Race 6: H & T QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1200M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow B. Stewart, the rider of 3rd placegetter MACEWEN, to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter KITTIE KINS. After viewing the video jockey Stewart indicated that he did not wish to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared.

MACEWEN – Slow to begin. Held up between the 300m and approaching the 200m and then when attempting a narrow run between KITTIE KINS and FUJI FLYER became awkward at the heels of FUJI FLYER when that runner shifted out when weakening.

TAMBO’S MATE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

DYNAMISANTE – Had to be eased from the heels of FUJI FLYER near the 1100m when that runner shifted in when not quite clear. R. Maloney, the rider of FUJI FLYER, was issued with a reprimand and advised to provide his fellow riders greater clearance in the future. Bumped heavily approaching the 600m.

TRAIL OF GLORY – Held up and unable to improve until inside the 100m.

Race 7: QLD CHINESE JOCKEY CLUB NO MORE THAN ONE METRO WIN H’CAP – 1200M

On return to scale apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of MARKSFIELD, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against MR MARKOU being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage stewards were of the opinion that although MR MARKOU shifted in slightly towards MARKSFIELD inside the final 100m, any interference suffered by MARKSFIELD had no effect on the placings and therefore dismissed the protest and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

MEET MR TAYLOR – Lunged forward in the barriers when another runner broke through the front gates, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race. Stewards questioned jockey M. Du Plessis regarding the horse’s performance. Jockey Du Plessis stated that when AMERICAN DIVA broke through the barriers the gelding also lunged forward. He added that the horse did not show its customary early speed and was under pressure from the 600m and did not quicken as he expected. He further added that in his view the horse may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer K. Schweida advised that the gelding would be freshened up prior to racing again.
