DYLAN’S LUCK – Following the race, trainer S. Edmonds expressed to stewards his disappointment with the manner in which apprentice C. Bayliss rode the gelding and with his apparent failure to comply with instructions issued. Subsequently, stewards questioned both Mr Edmonds and apprentice Bayliss regarding the matter. Mr Edmonds advised that his instructions to apprentice Bayliss were to settle in a rearward position and ride the gelding quiet. Apprentice Bayliss explained that after beginning well, shortly after the start, when caught racing wide, DYLAN’S LUCK commenced to race keenly and as he was unable to restrain his mount he allowed the gelding to improve with the hope of obtaining a position with cover trailing BODEGA NEGRA. However, as he was unable to obtain that position he then allowed the gelding to stride forward to eventually obtain a position outside the lead near the 900m. After considering the evidence presented by both parties and viewing the patrol footage, stewards advised apprentice Bayliss that although he may have erred by adopting the tactics he did, his riding was not so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules. Stewards further advised apprentice Bayliss that as a licensed metropolitan apprentice he would be expected to make a greater effort to comply with instructions given and took the matter no further.

The start of this race was delayed when DENARIUS, which was fractious in the barriers and lunged forward making contact with the front gate, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice C. Bayliss and K. Kemp, the trainer of 2nd placegetter TISANI MAGIC, to view the stewards’ patrol footage in the home straight to determine whether they had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner PRINCE OF TIE.
