SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Sunshine Coast 31.5.19 – Race 7:

Stewards concluded an inquiry opened into J. Lloyd’s riding of LADY I AM. A review of the betting activity informed the inquiry that there were no integrity concerns in regards to the betting on the event, particularly as LADY I AM was well supported. Evidence was also provided by trainer Toby Edmonds who reported that LADY I AM had subsequently recovered with swelling in both front legs and had since been retired from racing. After considering all of the evidence stewards were satisfied that due to the recovery of LADY I AM J. Lloyd’s actions were not so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules of racing. Stewards advised Mr Edmonds that LADY I AM would be required to trial satisfactorily after providing stewards with a veterinary clearance should the mare return to racing.

GENERAL

PRINCESS POSH, which had been scratched on veterinary advice from the TAB Stradbroke Handicap on 8 June 2019, had a track gallop after Race 2, following which the mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon, who reported that he could detect no apparent abnormalities.

Race 1: TAB CLASS 5 PLATE – 1350M

CURDLED – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure after passing the 200m.

COLLINS CREEK – Began awkwardly.

JACKPOT – Bumped on a number of occasions when tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.

FELINO BEL – Slightly inconvenienced when crowded between BELLA SUCCESS and CURDLED approaching the 100m.

Race 2: BRC MEMBERSHIP MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1350M

NETHERLANDS – Lost considerable ground after blundering on jumping. Raced three wide without cover throughout and passing the 600m made contact with HEAVENLY JOURNEY for a number of strides. Bumped HEAVENLY JOURNEY passing the 300m. When asked to explain the horse’s performance, jockey M. McGillivray stated that after blundering badly at the start the horse settled at the rear of the field, which is in contrast to its normal racing pattern of being in a forward position, and he elected to allow NETHERLANDS to gradually progress forward in a three-wide position. He added that after passing the 700m HEAVENLY JOURNEY, which was racing forward of him, shifted to a three-wide position to improve and as a result his mount was forced four wide. Jockey McGillivray was of the opinion that with the incident at the start and being carried wider during the middle stages, as well as the impost of 59kg, the horse performed well in the circumstances.

HEAVENLY JOURNEY – Bumped for a number of strides passing the 600m. Raced wide from the 800m. Became unbalanced passing the 300m when bumped by NETHERLANDS.

SHINING BLUE – Apprentice C. Bayliss was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

AIRDALE – Checked near the 1000m.

ENCHANTED REIGN – Overraced in the middle stages.

STYLISH LOVER – Slow to begin. Checked severely and lost ground when tightened for room near the 1000m. P. Timbery, the rider of GAME SET MATCH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear, thereby shifting into the rightful running of AIRDALE, carrying that gelding inwards, resulting in STYLISH LOVER being tightened for room. P. Timbery’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 14 days, to commence at midnight Wednesday 12 June and expire midnight Wednesday 26 June 2019. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Timbery’s previous good record, however were also mindful of the high degree of carelessness and the extent of the interference sustained by STYLISH LOVER.

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, M. Du Plessis, the rider of RED CHASE, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against PAPER TRADE being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos it was established that on entering the straight PAPER TRADE rolled out slightly, momentarily allowing a marginal run for RED CHASE to the inside, however RED CHASE did not fully establish a run to the inside of PAPER TRADE, which then rolled in slightly. Jockey Du Plessis then elected to come to the outside of PAPER TRADE to obtain clear running. In the circumstances, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any interference to RED CHASE warranted a reversal of the placings and the protest was dismissed, with correct weight being declared on the numbers semaphored.

Apprentice J. Hodge, the rider of SHIJIN, was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make greater effort to straighten his mounts when on an inward course with other runners to his inside.

RAISE AN ARMY – Inclined to lay outwards in the straight.

THE SOLOIST – Turned inwards after being bumped on the hind quarters approaching the 1400m. Laid out in the straight.
