QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT BRISBANE RACING CLUB DOOMBEN – WEDNESDAY 24 JULY 2019 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – 9MPENETROMETER – 5.36 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. Anderson, T. WilliamsStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski Race 1: SPRING RACING @ BRC MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M As R. Plumb was not riding due to illness, R. Fradd was substituted as the rider of TELECOM DANEWIN. ZEPHYR CRUISER – Slow to begin. Brushed the running rail approaching the 600m when racing in restricted room to the inside of GRUMBLE. BIGGIE – Became awkwardly placed at the heels of ARZU passing the 100m and shifted out to obtain clear running. Slightly inconvenienced by ARZU approaching the 50m. KENNEDY TERRACE – Began very awkwardly, blundered, became unbalanced and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained in the position outside the leader. ARZU – Laid out under pressure over the final 150m. COMBATIVITE – Bumped on jumping. GRUMBLE – Laid in passing the 600m. Race 2: TAB QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M BOOMI’S BUDDY – Raced three wide without cover throughout. DREAM PIECE – Inclined to lay out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. GIGLI PRIMO – Began awkwardly. GREAT KEPPELL – Bumped on jumping. LIABILITY – When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, trainer G. Heinrich explained that the horse was slow to begin at its first start and then had a torrid run and failed to finish the race off and was subsequently sent for a spell and was gelded. She added that in the lead up to today’s event the gelding had worked well and had won a recent barrier trial at Beaudesert and she expected a forward showing today. MEXICAN YELL – Began awkwardly and bumped the hind quarters of GREAT KEPPELL. MYMATE BUDDY – Had to be steadied passing the 800m when racing in restricted room between MEXICAN YELL and BOOMI’S BUDDY, which shifted in slightly. Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIPS QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M BLOOMING LILY – Hampered on jumping. BOOM ROCKER – Began very awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. DOLLY SPARTAN – Hampered on jumping. After settling in a trailing position in the early stages, commenced to overrace passing the 800m and had to be steadied away from the heels of BLOOMING LILY and raced three wide from the 700m onwards. FAST EVA – Slow to muster speed. KURU LASS – Bumped on jumping. MOROCCAN DREAM – Slipped over in the enclosure prior to the jockey mounting it, examined by the veterinary surgeon who cleared it to proceed to the barriers, and upon arrival at the barriers a further veterinary examination cleared the filly to start. Slow to begin. SO STUNNING – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. SOWHAT IMAROCKSTAR – Began awkwardly. Race 4: COUNTRY MUSIC WEEKEND QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M The start of this race was delayed when HAUNTED HOUSE refused to load. HAUNTED HOUSE was declared a late scratching at 1:47 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on HAUNTED HOUSE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:47 pm: 12 cents in the dollar for the win #614 cents in the dollar for place of winner #611 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #211 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #8 Trainer B. Gorman was advised that the filly would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. The start was further delayed when the bridle and earmuffs on CONQUER MEE became detached and had to be refitted. BABY BOOMER – Began awkwardly. Had a tendency to shift out and away from SCATHING over the final 100m. BLOOD RED SKY – Began awkwardly. HALLSIDE HOT STUFF – Hampered on jumping. Had to be restrained from heels approaching the 700m. LEO THE LION – Began awkwardly. SCATHING – Bumped on jumping. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Laid out under pressure over the final 150m. SUGAR ZONE – Began awkwardly and then was bumped by BLOOD RED SKY. Commenced to overrace when the pace steadied passing the 800m, got its head up and had to be severely restrained from heels. Became awkwardly placed at the heels of VIVENDO IL SOGNO rounding the home turn, had to be steadied and was held up for a short distance. VIVENDO IL SOGNO – Held up rounding the home turn. ANGELS LANDING – Tightened for room approaching the 700m when SUGAR ZONE shifted in slightly. CONQUER MEE – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air, losing considerable ground. Race 5: TEDDY BEARS PICNIC RACE DAY QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M As R. Wiggins was not riding due to illness, A. Allen was substituted as the rider of NINEONEONE. The start of this race was delayed initially when apprentice J. Murphy, who had been dislodged from DUCHESS OF ROSE whilst proceeding to the barriers, was examined by the paramedics and cleared to take his ride. The start was further delayed when ICED and TERRIUS, both of which lunged forward and struck the front barrier gates, were removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. ICED – Bumped shortly after the start. Bumped heavily passing the 900m and forced wider on the track by DEVINE GREY, which shifted out abruptly. PRECIZZLING – Began very awkwardly and shifted in, making heavy contact with NINEONEONE. Raced four wide without cover after passing the 900m. When asked to explain the gelding’s performance, J. Byrne stated that after beginning very awkwardly and receiving severe interference on multiple occasions in the first 200m, the gelding was reluctant to travel from that point on and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. RISING STAR – Slow to begin. Improved on to the heels of NINEONEONE approaching the 600m and had to be shifted wider on the track and in doing so forced PRECIZZLING wider on the track. TERRIUS – Began awkwardly and was buffeted between runners on jumping. Bumped passing the 900m and forced wider on the track by DEVINE GREY, which hung out. Bumped passing the 600m by NINEONEONE, which laid in, and raced in restricted room for a short distance. DEVINE GREY – Commenced to hang out shortly after the start and in doing so made heavy contact with ICED and then continued to hang out for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners. DUCHESS OF ROSE – Tightened for room shortly after jumping and lost considerable ground. NINEONEONE – Bumped heavily on jumping. Became awkwardly placed at the heels of TERRIUS passing the 900m and was forced wider on the track and raced three wide without cover from that point onwards. Following this event apprentice J. Murphy was examined by the Club doctor and stood down from his remaining engagements. Apprentice Murphy was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 6: EVENTS & BRC CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M INVINCIBLE GANGSTA – Held up rounding the home turn. TAIKO BOOM – Had to be steadied away from the heels of COPYWRITER passing the 800m. UMBERTO – Slow to begin. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Bumped with CRAB BOY approaching the 100m. DREAMSCOPE – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. TRIPLE ARROW – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Laid out under pressure passing the 150m. ALL IMPORTANT – Laid in over the final 150m when placed under pressure and passing the winning post brushed the running rail. COPYWRITER – As there was no suitable apprentice available to ride the mare at the weight, stewards permitted T. Marshall to take the ride. Improved on to the heels of DREAMSCOPE approaching the 500m and had to be restrained. The veterinary surgeon reported that the mare had sustained abrasions to the off hind leg and lacerations to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on. CRAB BOY – Had to be steadied away from heels approaching the 500m and then was held up for clear running until shortly after entering the home straight. Bumped with UMBERTO approaching the 100m. Race 7: BIG SCREEN ON THE GREEN CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1650M SMOKEY DIAMOND – Held up rounding the home turn and then approaching the 300m was disappointed for a run and had to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running, and then passing the 150m had to alter course to the outside to secure clear running. CHAR CHAR – Had to be resaddled after arriving at the barriers. Brushed with LIMBO STAR after passing the 200m. NORDIC SHOW – Stewards permitted apprentice M. Murphy to ride the mare claiming only 1.5kg of his allowance when no other suitable apprentice rider was available. Slow into stride. Had to be restrained from heels when the pace steadied approaching the 1200m, got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance. SPIRAL – Slow into stride. LIMBO STAR – Brushed with CHAR CHAR after passing the 200m. LEFKAS ISLAND – Bumped when racing in restricted room to the inside of CHAR CHAR passing the 900m and became unbalanced. Race 8: SOUTHBANK EMPORIUM CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1110M WEBOUGHTAZOU – Had to be steadied approaching the 900m when awkwardly placed at the heels of VERNAZZA. VERNAZZA – Laid out approaching the 900m. After leading for the majority of the event, weakened when placed under pressure over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had an ulcer inside the right cheek. ELIXIR – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Passing the 200m raced in restricted room to the outside of VERNAZZA, which laid out, and to the inside of JUSTIFY, which laid in slightly. Disappointed for a run approaching the 100m and had to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running, and approaching the 50m bumped with SHAKEN NOT STIRRED. SHAKEN NOT STIRRED – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Bumped passing the 50m. JUSTIFY – Approaching the 400m was bumped and buffeted on a couple of occasions by WEBOUGHTAZOU, which shifted out to improve. DIXIE – Laid in under pressure passing the 200m and bumped HEAVENLY ARCHER. HEAVENLY ARCHER – Bumped on jumping. Bumped passing the 200m. Race 9: WWW.BRC.COM.AU BM70 H'CAP – 1350M CHARLIE CAT – Had to be steadied when tightened for room approaching the 1200m. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. MISHANI PHOENIX – Had to be steadied approaching the 1200m when racing in restricted room. RIDEONABIGJETPLANE – Slow into stride. After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained in an attempt to find a position closer to the rail at the rear of the field but was unable to do so and raced three wide without cover throughout. Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some overgrowth on the cheek teeth. SKY LAKE – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. DRYSDALE SPIRIT – Approaching the 1200m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SKY LAKE, which shifted in. Apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of SKY LAKE, was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. GREGORY – Bumped on jumping. JET TRAIN – Raced three wide until passing the 900m. LEGAL COUNSEL – As there was no suitable apprentice available to ride the gelding at the weight, stewards permitted M. Du Plessis to take the ride. Approaching the 1200m was bumped by DRYSDALE SPIRIT, which was taken in by SKY LAKE. RAISE AN ARMY – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. THE KINGDOM – Slow into stride.
