Fradd reported that the gelding travelled comfortably albeit it raced somewhat keenly during the event however, when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing in the home straight. Jockey Fradd added that in his opinion the gelding may not have backed up from its most recent start last Saturday. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Co-trainer C. Anderson advised that it would now be the intention to send the gelding for a spell.

CALYPSO BAY – Passing the 300m laid in despite the efforts of its rider. When asked to explain the seemingly improved performance trainer J. Manzelmann explained that the gelding has only been in his care for the last couple of runs and at its last start it was not suited over the shorter distance and did not appreciate the dirt racing surface. He added in its previous run the gelding performed quite well in the Townsville Cup and with the small field today over a more suitable distance did expect a better performance however, was quite surprised by the win.

MASTER ZEPHYR – Approaching the 250m was bumped and raced in restricted room to the inside of CALYPSO BAY, which laid in and to the outside of EXOTERIC, which shifted out to improve.

Shortly afterwards after passing the 200m attempted a run to the inside of ALLENA where there was insufficient room and clipped the heels of that runner and blundered. App J. Hodge (HIGH COST) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of  AR131(a) for attempting a run where there was insufficient room causing HIGH COST to clip heels and blunder. App Hodge’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) days to commence midnight 12 August 2019 and expire midnight 20 August 2019.

THE MECHANIC – Passing the 900m when being restrained to obtain cover threw its head in the air on a couple of occasions.

Race 4: AQWA Construction QTIS 3YO Handicap – 1200m

Upon pulling up jockey J. Bayliss (MAD IRISH TYCOON) dismounted from the gelding as he was ill. Jockey Bayliss was stood down from riding until obtaining a medical clearance.

Race 8: Kelly Schweida Racing Open Handicap – 1630m

Stewards considered an objection lodged by App B. Nothdurft the rider of SILVERA which finished third against MORENDI (M. Cahill) being declared the second placegetter on the grounds of interference suffered passing the 200m. In giving consideration Stewards were of the opinion that SILVERA had obtained a run to the outside of MORENDI and when MORENDI shifted out causing SILVERA to be checked away from the heels of that runner. Stewards were also of the opinion that the manner in which SILVERA finished the race off, the interference suffered and the nose margin between the two runners at the finish meant SILVERA would have beaten MORENDI in the finish and therefore they upheld the objection and amended the placings to read:-

1st MAGNUFIGHTER
2nd SILVERA
3rd MORENDI
4th VAUCLUSE BAY

FIT FOR PURPOSE – Slow to begin.

Cahill stated it was not his intention to race in a forward position however, after beginning well and settling three wide in a midfield position, with the lack of speed in the early stages he elected passing the 1300m to allow the gelding to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 1200m.

SILVERA – Passing the 200m had to be checked away from the heels of MORENDI, which shifted out and then shifted back to the inside to obtain clear running. Jockey M. Cahill (MORENDI) was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
