Race 1: TAB Class 3 Plate – 1050m

SPOT ON SPUD – Restrained at the start from a wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail. Passing the 900m commenced to overrace and hung out badly and continued to do so for the remainder of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a cut to the near side of its mouth. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that the gelding must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

ENTERPRISE MARCH – Approaching the home turn raced in restricted room between POWER COMMAND and SANGLIER, which laid in slightly. Unable to secure clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

SOXAGON – Near the 400m made contact with the running rail when tightened for room by CUZCO, which shifted in and away from KOONUNGA.

KOONUNGA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

CUZCO – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post race recovery and was lame in the off fore leg.  Co-trainer W. Hulbert was advised that the gelding must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Mr Hulbert advised Stewards it would now be the intention to send the gelding for a spell.

Race 2: Gallopers Membership $1 NMW Handicap – 2020m

As App Z. White had been stood down by order of Stewards App J. Murphy was substituted as the rider of CRAIGLEA CETINA.

SPEAKING BAD – Slow to begin.

CHIVADAHLII- Overraced in the early stages.

DON’T DOUBT LARA – Overraced in the early stages.

ELMO’S FIRE – When leaving the crossing near the 1600m began to overrace and shifted out abruptly.

LITTLE HUNTER – Taken wider near the 1600m by ELMO’S FIRE, which shifted out abruptly.

FAST ARLI – Restrained when overracing from the heels of MR STORM near the 850m.

FRANCISCA – When questioned App S. Thornton explained that her instructions were to race in a handy position and after travelling a short distance and being wide on the track and the speed was slow she allowed the mare to stride forward to the lead without pressure.

Race 4: South Sports Club QTIS 3YO Colts & Geldings Handicap – 1200m

Stewards considered an objection lodged by M. Cahill the rider of FISTICUFFS which finished third against XANTHUS (R. Stewart) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 100m. After hearing evidence from all parties Stewards were of the view that passing the 200m THE ODYSSEY shifted out, which resulted in XANTHUS being taken wider. At the same stage FISTICUFFS shifted in under pressure and made contact with the hind quarters of XANTHUS, which resulted in that horse being turned outwards before being corrected by its rider. Stewards in considering the contributing factors to any interference to FISTICUFFS were not satisfied to alter the placings and dismissed the objection  and correct weight was given on the Judge’s numbers.

BALLISTIC BOY – Hampered at the start.

FISTICUFFS – Overraced in the early stages.

RIVER ROCKET – Overraced in the early stages.

MAD IRISH TYCOON – Buffeted between XANTHUS and GETYOURGREYON near the 900m.

THE STOCKBROKER – Restrained from heels near the 800m and after being restrained hung out for a major part of the race and rounding the home turn hung out proving difficult to ride. Trainer T. Button was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

XANTHUS – Inconvenienced passing the 100m by THE ODYSEEY, which shifted out and shortly after was bumped on the hind quarters by FISTICUFFS, which shifted in.

PATCHES – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

GETYOURGREYON – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

THE ODYSSEY – Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey J. Orman regarding the performance of THE ODYSSEY. Jockey Orman stated the horse settled in a favourable leading position and when placed under pressure in the home straight did not sprint as expected. Jockey Orman added that in his view the horse will take a fitness benefit from today’s race.

Race 5: Souths 2 For 1 Meal Deal Open Handicap – 1350m

CADOGAN – Overraced in the early stages. Stewards questioned App J. Murphy regarding his riding of CADOGAN, in particular when settling towards the rear of the field the reason he did not move the horse three wide before being covered by IN HIS STRIDE near the 700m, which improved from the rear of the field. App Murphy stated it was his instructions to settle the horse in a midfield position with cover and when he was trailing EL CAMPEADOR that horse did not take him into the race and resulted in him being last on the turn. Trainer T. Edmonds advised that he was disappointed with App Murphy’s ride, in particular his decision to follow EL CAMPEADOR instead of improving around the field. Stewards advised App Murphy that in similar circumstances he would be expected to shift wider on the track and improve before being covered by IN HIS STRIDE, particularly bearing in mind that he was trailing EL CAMPEADOR. Stewards were not of the view that his decision was so unreasonable as to be culpable under the Rules and therefore took no further action.

Race 6: Gallopers Friday Night Members Draw QTIS 3YO Fillies Handicap – 1200m

TINDER LOVING CARE – Slow to begin.

JAZZ QUEEN – Overraced in the early stages.

Trainer M. Currie was fined $200 for the late declaration of T. Harrison as the rider of MOLLY’S ROCKING.

CONSTANT FLIGHT- Underwent a veterinary examination shortly after being kicked in the near hind leg and was again examined behind the barriers and passed fit to start.

LIFESAVER – Began awkwardly.

BROOK MAGIC – Reared at the start and lost ground. Laid out rounding the home turn. Cast an off fore plate in running and a post race veterinary examination revealed it to be exhibiting some soreness in that area, which may have had a bearing on it compounding over the final stages.

TAMBO’S MATE – Overraced badly in the early stages.

Race 8: BRC Spring Racing Carnival Open Handicap – 1110m

BOLD CHANCE – Buffeted at the start between COOL SEQUENCE and TOP STRIKER. Near the 900m had to be checked when tightened for room between TISANI TOMSO and GATLINBURG, which after being taken in by SNOOPY shifted in slightly away from that runner. Jockey S. Cormack (SNOOPY) was reprimanded and advised to allow his fellow riders greater racing room in future. Checked at the 800m to avoid the heels of TISANI TOMSO and shifted out.

SNOOPY – Jockey S. Cormack reported his mount slipped behind on jumping. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

BOOMWAA – Overraced badly in the early and middle stages.

PUBLISHING POWER – When the pace slowed passing the 800m commenced to overrace and laid out. Hung out in the middle stages.

Raced erratically under pressure in the home straight and shifted out near the 200m making contact with AQUA VITE. Soon afterwards was then corrected by its rider and shifted in and bumped READY SET BOOM.

READY SET BOOM – Bumped heavily by COUNTESS DE GALVEZ soon after straightening.

SIX SIGMA – When attempting to shift out around the tiring TROMMELSCHLAGEN soon after straightening then had to be checked to avoid that runner’s heels when taken inwards by READY SET BOOM.

BOLD ASSASSIN – When attempting to secure clear running to the inside of SIX SIGMA soon after straightening had to be checked to avoid that runner’s heels after SIX SIGMA was forced inwards. Unable to secure clear running in the home straight until the concluding stages.
