Smith was not riding in Races 4 and 6 for reasons accepted by stewards, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1050M CLIFTON SPRINGS – Bumped on the hindquarters near the 900m and became unbalanced. Raced greenly throughout and leaving the 500m shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Bumped over the concluding stages. JETT AUSTIN – A little slow to begin. When asked to explain the disappointing performance, J. Orman said that the gelding had trialled well recently leading into today’s race but failed to respond to his riding over the final 400m and proved disappointing. APPARENTLY NOT – Shifted out when racing greenly near the 900m and bumped BID IN A HURRY, which was then buffeted between that runner and CLIFTON SPRINGS. ELA BEACH – Inclined to lay out under pressure over the final 200m and over the concluding stages shifted out and bumped CLIFTON SPRINGS when that runner moved in slightly. BID IN A HURRY – Buffeted between runners near the 900m. Race 2: MEMBERSHIPS @ BRC MAIDEN H'CAP – 1050M The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow trainer T. Cotsiopoulos and apprentice M. Wishart, the rider of 3rd placegetter ZARAFET, to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether there were grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner PALEONTOLOGIST. After viewing the videos both parties indicated they did not wish to proceed. ZARAFET – Inclined to get out when placed under pressure inside the final 200m and over the final stages had to be restrained from the heels of PALEONTOLOGIST when ZARAFET continued to shift out and PALEONTOLOGIST moved in slightly. Apprentice M. Wishart, the rider of ZARAFET, was advised to make a greater effort to keep her mounts on a straight course and J. Orman, the rider of PALEONTOLOGIST, was also cautioned for allowing the eventual winner to move in over the final stages. MAS DINERO – Overraced at the heels of GREEN KUDOS in the early and middle stages. SOMEBODY LOVES YOU – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide throughout without cover. MENDED – Stewards sought an explanation from S. Cormack regarding his riding of the gelding rounding the home turn and in the home straight. Jockey Cormack explained that when SCHWEID AS shifted outside of PALEONTOLOGIST soon after straightening he altered course to the inside of that runner, anticipating there would be sufficient room to the inside of ZARAFET when he improved passing the 200m. He said soon afterwards ZARAFET, when struck with the whip, moved back inwards so he then elected to shift off that runner’s heels trailing the eventual winner PALEONTOLOGIST and over the final stages he was awkwardly placed at the heels of that runner and for this reason did not ride in his normal manner at that point. Stewards noted jockey Cormack’s explanation. Race 3: TAB CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M ONLY WANNA SING – Had to be steadied approaching the 100m from the heels of VIBRATO, which shifted out under pressure slightly. GRACIE BELLE – Held up in the early part of the home straight. ARTERIAL – Shifted out under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 4 at 2:55 pm. ABSOLUTE GLORY – Commenced to overrace after passing the 1000m and had to be restrained from the heels of MISS ALLE BE. CARIBBEAN KISSES – Brushed at the start and soon afterwards was taken out and bumped heavily with TORRIENTE. JOMERA – Unable to secure a clear run from inside the 100m to the winning post when awkwardly placed at the heels of CARIBBEAN KISSES and as a result went to the line not tested by its rider. MISS ALLE BE – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and brushed CARIBBEAN KISSES. ZAMZARA – Had to be restrained from the heels of ABSOLUTE GLORY when overracing near the 1000m and then continued to overrace in the middle stages. Tightened for room inside the 100m between METAMORPHIC and STAR SILK, which shifted out. R. Wiggins, the rider of STAR SILK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 250m when not clear of LUCKY PROSPECTOR and that he also allowed his mount to shift out further inside the 100m when not clear of that runner, which was tightened for room. Jockey Wiggins’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, commencing midnight Wednesday 8 January 2020 and expiring midnight Friday 17 January 2020. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that the interference was in the mid-range, jockey Wiggins’ very good record in relation to this rule and his guilty plea. PURE PULSE – Hampered near the 200m when tightened for room between LYRICAL PRINCE and HI HARRY, which shifted in. BURBANK – Slow to begin.
