GENERAL
 
As both L. Tilley and B. Stewart were indisposed due to illness Stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: Gallopers Sports Club Maiden Plate – 1050m
 
Trainer B. Gorman was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Bayliss as the rider of SWAN ISLAND.
 
SWAN ISLAND – Restrained from the outside barrier to the rear of the field to obtain a position closer to the rail. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
RELENTLESS MISS – Jumped awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages. Severely hampered near the 150m when restrained from the heels of MOZART’S MUSE. App A. Thompson (MOZART’S MISS) was reprimanded and advised to show greater care to his fellow riders’ safety when shifting ground.
 
BEATING DRUM – Overraced badly in the early stages. Continued to overrace and near the
700m shifted out resulting in BEACHBREAK being taken wide. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
MOZART’S MUSE – Passing the 600m hung out despite the efforts of its rider and became awkward for a number of strides. Continued to hang out rounding the home turn. Near the 150m was disappointed for a run to the inside of DAYTONA DANICA and then altered course to the outside of that runner in order to improve.
 
FAY CONQUERS ALL – Raced four wide without cover throughout.
 
DIXON BAY - Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
BEACHBREAK – Raced four wide with cover throughout.
 
 
Race 2: Memberships @ BRC Maiden Handicap – 1350m
 
Trainer B. Gorman was fined $100 for the late declaration of App Z. White as the rider of STAMEN.
 
HELSUN – Slow to begin. Stewards opened an inquiry into Jockey N. Day’s riding, particularly over the final 400m. After taking evidence from Jockey Day and Trainer D. Markey the  matter was adjourned to allow Stewards to view the previous starts and also examine the betting records of the race. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant findings other than some lacerations in the horse’s mouth and a laceration of the off hind chestnut.
 
MULHOLLAND MAN – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped THE GOOD THE BAD.
 
PIANO MAN – Soon after the start shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of SLIGHTLY SHADY.
 
LITTLE ALBERT – Overraced when racing three wide without cover throughout.
 
SLIGHTLY SHADY – Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 3: TAB QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1350m
 
SAKE OF ONE – Trainer B. Lockwood advised the intention would be to ride the horse in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
PARANGAS – Reared at the start and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
NITROGLYCERINE – Slow to begin.
 
BOOM CHUGGA LUGGA – Began awkwardly.
 
BARBICAN – Raced fiercely in the early stages. Taken wider by MANTELLI near the 800m. Brushed near the 300m.
 
MANTELLI – When the pace steadied near the 800m had to be steadied from the heels of SAKE OF ONE.
 
ZAMZARA – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
CACTOBLASTIS – Near the 300m shifted out and brushed BARBICAN.
 
GREAT BRAVE – Shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring BARBICAN near the 250m.
 
MILITARY KINGS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
TRUMPED UP – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
VOGUE - Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
AUNTY SNOW - Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
 
Race 4: Eva Air Class 5 Handicap – 1110m
 
PAPER TRADE – Slow to begin.
 
AGGRAVATE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 700m had to be restrained from the heels of PIRACY.
 
JOHNNY WHITESOX – Approaching the 800m commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of HELFUCHI. Improved up onto the heels of RHYMING PUPPET near the 600m and had to be checked and shifted out.
 
BEAU ARROW – Forced wider near the 600m. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
PIRACY – Inclined to hang out in the middle stages and made the home turn wide.
 
SEVEN YEAR REWARD – Weakened badly in the home straight. Passing the 300m shifted in when weakening and brushed the running rail. Beaten a considerable distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer B. Johnson  was advised that the gelding will now be ineligible to compete in the metropolitan area until it proves its form in provincial races.
 
HELFUCHI – Held up in the early part of the home straight.
 
RHYMING PUPPET – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
MUSICAL GENIUS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the mare racing again.
 
ARCHER’S PARADOX – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have galloped on itself and sustained small laceration on the near fore heel.
 
 
Race 5: Suez Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1615m
 
LE DUDE – Blundered at the start and lost ground. Raced three wide throughout.
 
HANG – Raced wide early and as a result was ridden forward to race behind DOWNLOADING near the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on and had sustained an abrasion over the off hind tendon.
 
CAPEOS – Pulled hard when leading in the middle stages.
 
SLOW HANDS – Near the 800m improved up onto the heels of MISS SHANTI and shifted out.
 
MISHANI PHOENIX – Forced wider near the 700m.
 
MISS SHANTI – Obliged to alter course from the heels of the tiring CAPEOS near the 150m.
 
 
Race 6: Souths Sports Club Class 2 Handicap – 1615m
 
SULTRY TESTA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hampered soon after the start by CURRUMBIN CRAFT.
 
MISS UNDERSTANDING – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
AXELLA – Eased soon after the start when tightened for room between PEMBROKE CASTLE and ULTIMATE RING. Overraced in the early stages.
 
PEMBROKE CASTLE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
WESTHAM – App B. Nothdurft explained on scale that his mount overraced throughout, which he attributed to being second up over 1600m.
 
 
Race 7: BRC Royal Ascot Tour Class 1 Handicap – 1200m
 
DEVINE GREY - Stable representative advised the intention would be to ride the horse back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
COUPE DE VILLE – Tightened for room soon after the start.
 
GANDIVA – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
QUANYIN – Held up for clear running in the home straight until near the 150m. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
CANUSEE – Raced four wide without cover throughout.
 
CINCO STAR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
SAN PIERRE – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
 
 
Race 8: Lunar New Year Raceday Benchmark 65 Handicap – 1350m
 
LOVE AND ROCK IT – Slow to begin. Approaching the finishing line was inconvenienced and obliged to steady from the heels of MOUNTBATTEN which shifted in.
 
ONLY WANNA SING – After travelling a short distance was steadied from the heels of WINNING KISS.
 
WINNING KISS – Eased down rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have been galloped on and sustained a deep laceration to the near hind resulting in a rupture of the flexor tendon. After consultation with the mare’s connections and considering the severity of the injury the mare was humanely euthanased.
 
WHODUNNIT – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
CORDONED – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
J. Orman (MOUNTBATTEN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in approaching the line when insufficiently clear of LOVE AND ROCK IT, which had to be restrained from the heels of MOUNTBATTEN. Jockey Orman’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six (6) days to commence midnight 25 January 2020 and expire midnight 31 January 2020.
