Race 5: BERNBOROUGH ASCOT OPEN H'CAP – 1640M GET STUCK IN – Apprentice B. Nothdurft pleaded guilty to a charge of excessive use of the whip under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he had used the whip 18 times prior to the 100m and 29 times in total. Apprentice Nothdurft’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, to commence at midnight on Friday 8 May, being the expiration of a term of suspension incurred at Sunshine Coast on 17 April, and to expire at midnight on Friday 15 May 2020. In addition, jockey Nothdurft was fined $500. Stewards inquired into apprentice B. Nothdurft’s riding of GET STUCK IN making the turn into the straight. It was established that GET STUCK IN was laying outwards making the turn into the straight and apprentice Nothdurft, when attempting to prevent his mount shifting outwards, extended his right arm in an endeavour to assist his corrective action. Stewards were unable to establish whether apprentice Nothdurft’s arm had made contact with the head of MAGNUFIGHTER and as such believed there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a charge. However, apprentice Nothdurft was warned and advised that he must take greater care when riding his mounts not to raise his elbow in a manner which may result in contact with another runner or rider. MAGNUFIGHTER – Disappointed for a run near the 300m and then as a result was directed back to the inside to secure clear running. SHOGUN SUN – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. PLITVICE – Overraced rounding the first turn. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on LADY APPLETON be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:33 pm: 1 cent in the dollar for the win #142 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1410 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1212 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6 PERFECT AIM – Bumped by NIEDORP on jumping away. Race 8: XXXX DRY BENCHMARK 85 H'CAP – 1200M INVINCIBLE AL – Overraced approaching the first turn, had to be restrained from heels and shift wider on the track, raced wide from that point onwards and was inclined to hang out from the 700m. BOLD ENDEAVOUR – Blundered on jumping away. Stewards inquired into the reasons for jockey R. Wiggins having to take hold of his mount near the 300m. After taking evidence from the riders involved, jockey J. Orman, the rider of RACECOURSE ROAD, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out approaching the 300m when not clear of SOLAR STAR, taking that horse out on to the rightful running of BOLD ENDEAVOUR, which was obliged to steady at that point of the race and relinquish its position. Jockey Orman’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 25 April and expire at midnight on Saturday 2 May 2020.
