Apprentice A. Thompson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR123(2) of having in his possession an unsatisfactory safety vest and was fined $500.
 
Race 1: XXXX DRY QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 1110M
 
DARK SON – Apprentice J. Murphy was cautioned for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
REAL FINE WINE – Shifted in and away from DARK SON after travelling a short distance and made contact with QUEEN SWEEPER. Raced greenly throughout. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ONE SHY RUBY – Overraced in the early stages.
 
PATTY’S FORTUNE – Overraced in the early stages.
 
KASEAR – Stewards accepted trainer L. Erhart’s explanation for the late declaration of L. Cassidy as the rider of the filly. Raced three wide without cover. Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
QUEEN SWEEPER – Bumped after travelling a short distance.
 
Race 2: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS 3YO PLATE – 2030M
 
LANDO BAY – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before being ridden forward to race outside the leader near the 1200m.
 
MAN OF SINN – Slow to begin.
 
MISS SILKY – Overraced in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISHANI SECRET – As B. Stewart was to be overweight, R. Fradd was substituted as the rider of the filly. B. Stewart was fined $400.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 4.
 
Race 3: ASCOT GREEN BM85 H'CAP – 1050M
 
MALAHAT – Hampered on jumping.
 
SPIRIT’S CHOICE – Jumped awkwardly inwards on to MALAHAT, which was hampered. Apprentice A. Thompson was reprimanded under AR132(6)(b) for raising his whip arm above shoulder height.
 
DOCTOR ZOUS – Raced three wide without cover.
 
PHOBETOR – Slow to begin. Had to be eased near the 300m when tightened for room between DOCTOR ZOUS and HARD STRIDE, which was taken out slightly by PIRACY. M. Cahill, the rider of PIRACY, was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
 
ARCHER’S PARADOX – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
I’VE GOTTA NEL – Overraced when leading in the early stages.
 
HI FIVER – Had some difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until near the 100m.
 
Race 4: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1350M
 
WANDABAA – Shifted out near the 200m and brushed LOVE EXPRESS, which was taken wider on the track.
 
BETTER REFLECTION – R. Wiggins reported that his mount was inclined to lay out and did not feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination the filly to be exhibiting a cough. Trainer J. Wigginton advised stewards that an endoscopic examination carried out on the horse following its return to his stables revealed the presence of mucus. Mr Wigginton was advised that the he must provide a veterinary clearance, including the results of a further endoscopic examination, prior to the horse’s next start.
 
SNOWZONE – Bumped heavily by SEA RAIDER near the 900m and then raced three wide for the remainder of the event. G. Colless, the rider of SEA RAIDER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 900m he directed his mount outwards when insufficiently clear, shifting into the rightful running of SNOWZONE, bumping heavily with that runner and carrying it wider on the track. Jockey Colless’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 4 July and expire at midnight on Tuesday 14 July 2020.
 
VINCO – Slow to begin. Shifted in and brushed the running rail when racing inside of horses approaching the 600m. Held up rounding the home turn and in the home straight until inside the 100m.
 
DEADLY ONE – Overraced in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to take up the lead near the 600m.
 
Race 5: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PREMIERS CUP – 2200M
 
SATONO RASEN – Connections advised that from the good barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a more forward position. The horse raced in the lead.
 
KAONIC – Stewards sought an explanation from M. Du Plessis regarding his riding of KAONIC over the final 500m and whether there was an opportunity to shift out to the outside of LE JUGE to improve. Jockey Du Plessis stated that he was held up to the inside of the heels of LE JUGE rounding the home turn until the 200m where he was able to shift out and his mount hit the line strongly. He added that he felt LE JUGE would sprint quicker than it did from the 400m, which would have allowed him to shift out sooner and afforded him clear running. Stewards noted his explanation.
 
A MAN TO MATCH – As apprentice B. Nothdurft was to be overweight, R. Fradd was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Apprentice Nothdurft was fined $200. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration his good record.
 
PICKA PLUM – Hampered near the 400m when tightened for room by FIGHTING TEO.
 
Race 6: CANADIAN CLUB CLASS 6 PLATE – 1350M
 
HEAVENLY JOURNEY was a late scratching at 2:26 pm after the veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Brown was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on HEAVENLY JOURNEY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:26 pm:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #6
0 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #14
1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place #7
 
RACECOURSE ROAD – Overraced in the early stages.
 
THY KINGDOM COME – Began awkwardly and soon afterwards knuckled and lost ground.
 
Race 7: MITTYS SPEAR CHIEF H'CAP – 1350M
 
CHAPTER AND VERSE – Bumped at the start.
 
SPECTROSCOPE – Slow to begin. Over the final stages, improved on to the heels of RIGHT OR WRONG and had to shift to the inside of that runner, resulting in R. Maloney being unable to ride the gelding out in his normal manner.
 
TWITCHY FRANK – As apprentice B. Nothdurft was to be overweight, T. Harrison was substituted as the rider of the mare. Apprentice Nothdurft was fined $200. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration his good record.
 
RIGHT OR WRONG – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CHAPTER AND VERSE.
 
INQUIRY – Stewards permitted R. Wiggins to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its allocated weight. R. Wiggins was fined $400 under AR211 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over the weight at which he had weighed out.
 
STAR REFLECTION – Stewards permitted A. Mallyon to ride the mare half a kilogram over its allocated weight.
 
Race 8: TAB SAPPHIRE STAKES – 1630M
 
TELEPLAY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
BACCARAT BABY – Knuckled at the start and then raced three wide in the early stages.
 
DELECTATION GIRL – Overraced badly in the early stages.
 
SURE KNEE – Overraced badly in the early stages.
 
STROME – Returned to the enclosure having lost its off fore plate.
 
RED STINA – Slow to begin. T. Harrison was cautioned for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
BAREFOOT – Held up in the home straight until the 250m.
 
SHUHOOD – Connections advised that from it would be the intention to have the horse ridden more positively from the barrier. The horse raced in the lead. R. Fradd reported that after being pressured from the 800m his mount failed to respond to his riding before being eased down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 9: ALCYONE HOTEL RESIDENCES BM75 H'CAP – 1200M
 
VOULAIT – Raced three wide without cover.
 
ALL EEZ – Inclined to hang out for a major part of the race.
 
TIME TO PLAY – Knuckled badly on jumping and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
UNCONDITIONAL – Slow to begin.
