SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Doomben Saturday 25 July 2020 – Race 7:
Trainer Natalie McCall advised that DYNAMIC VERSE would now be spelled.
Race 1: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
SAN BERNARDINO – Obliged to steady shortly after the start when tightened between runners.
FROMTHENEVERNEVER – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
KARBORS – Performed below market expectation. Rider R. Maloney stated that the gelding did not feel comfortable throughout the event and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Kendrick stated that he was satisfied with the gelding leading into today’s event and thought that it had performed well in two recent jump-outs at the Sunshine Coast. He added that the horse may not have appreciated today’s shifting surface and advised that the gelding would undergo a veterinary examination in coming days. Stewards will contact Mr Kendrick in the ensuing days regarding today’s performance.
ROSTRUM – Improved on to the heels of CRAYON near the 700m and momentarily shifted wider.
CRAYON – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Race 2: QUINCY F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
As R. Wiggins was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness, S. Cormack was substituted as the rider of MEDUSA’S FURY.
EXPRESS DREAMS – Bumped on jumping when SLIGHTLY SHADY shifted in. Overraced near the 1100m when being restrained to gain a position with cover.
SLIGHTLY SHADY – Bumped on jumping, became unbalanced and shifted in. Raced ungenerously near the 1000m and shifted out. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
BOOM CHUGGA LUGGA – Began awkwardly and shifted out, hampering MEDUSA’S FURY. Put in an awkward stride approaching the 1000m when attempting to jump a shadow on the track.
ZOUKINA – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced three wide with cover. Momentarily steadied near the 1000m when SLIGHTLY SHADY raced ungenerously and shifted out.
DIVINE ROCA – Slow into stride.
MEDUSA’S FURY – Hampered on jumping. Eased down over the concluding stages. Rider S. Cormack stated that the filly did not handle the Soft 6 track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1350M
As L. Cassidy was to be overweight, Andrew Spinks was substituted as the rider of KASEAR. L. Cassidy was fined $200 under AR190(3).
READY TO BOLT – Laid in in the home straight and over the concluding stages bumped with KASEAR, which shifted out under pressure.
STOCKED AND LOADED – Slow into stride.
ALWAYS BACK JACK – Overraced in the early stages. Shifted in when placed under pressure approaching the 300m whilst laying in, momentarily tightening ABOVE THE LOT, before being corrected.
ABOVE THE LOT – Overraced in the early stages. Momentarily tightened near the 300m.
KASEAR – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped with READY TO BOLT.
TRIPPER – Slow into stride. Trainer R. Milne was advised that following the gelding’s poor performance today, stewards would be placing a metropolitan bar on the gelding until its form improves to a satisfactory standard.
Race 4: THE VILLAGE KITCHEN ASCOT BENCHMARK 72 H’CAP – 1050M
TAKES TIME – Slow into stride.
STELLAR POWER – Tactics queried, led. Apprentice L. Kilner stated that she was instructed to be positive from the barrier and take up a forward position. Trainer B. Dais confirmed the instructions were to be further forward. He added that it is the gelding’s normal racing pattern to be ridden in a forward position, however it is preferred that it be ridden with cover.
I AM THE GENERAL – Inconvenienced and forced wider on the home turn when BELLE’S PLUCK shifted out to improve.
LIMERICK MOON – Slow into stride.
PIERIDAE – Raced three wide throughout.
BELLE’S PLUCK – Began awkwardly. Overraced between the 700m and 600m and had to be steadied away from the heels of LAST ARMAGEDDON. Held up approaching the home turn before attempting to shift out to improve and in doing so was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PIERIDAE before shifting out over the heels of that runner, and as a result I AM THE GENERAL was inconvenienced and carried wider, and HEARTS LIFTED, which was following, also was hampered and carried wider. Rider M. Murphy was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of I AM THE GENERAL. Jockey Murphy was fined $400 for using the whip 7 times prior to the 100m (13 in totality).
HEARTS LIFTED – Slow into stride. Forced wider approaching the home turn when runners in advance shifted wider to improve.
M. Murphy pleaded guilty to a charge under AR115(a) in that at the completion of an inquiry he misconducted himself by using inappropriate language and was fined $500.
Race 5: XXXX DRY QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 68 H’CAP – 1050M
GIDEONS – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Near the 250m was brushed and carried wider by EASY COME, which shifted out to improve.
JET A ONE – Near the 250m, when giving ground, had to be steadied when carried out by GINGER ROCK.
SCHWEID AS – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event.
GENERAL WITT – Improved on to the heels of JAZZ QUEEN leaving the 700m and shifted wider.
PRIMO AGOSTO – Approaching the 600m improved on to the heels of GENERAL WITT, which shifted out slightly, and was obliged to steady.
KIM ALICIA – Tightened between runners shortly after the start and then was forced to restrain to a rearward position. Rider R. Stewart reported that the filly was not suited by the strong tempo in the early stages, however finished the event off to his satisfaction and in his opinion it would be better suited over distances further than that of today’s event.
EASY COME – Raced three wide with cover. Inclined to lay in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride.
GINGER ROCK – Held up approaching the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
WOODLEY’S GOLD – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Performed below market expectation. Rider L. Cassidy stated that the colt needed to be ridden along in the early stages to maintain a forward position, however failed to finish the event off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
JAZZ QUEEN – Held up approaching the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
Race 6: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1640M
SMOKEY DIAMOND – Slow into stride.
FASTNET CYCLONE – Held up rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 150m when shifted wider to secure clear running.
CERTAIN DOUBT – Steadied near the 1400m when tightened by BERING SEA, which shifted in. R. Maloney, the rider of BERING SEA, was advised to exercise greater care. Pulled hard in the middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
FLASH AAH – Overraced in the early stages before improving on to the heels of TOP ME UP AGAIN approaching the 1350m and shifting wider on the course, then continued to overrace for some distance thereafter.
Race 7: CANADIAN CLUB OPEN H’CAP – 1200M
TARBERT – Slow into stride.
STAR REFLECTION – Bumped on jumping.
SHARPE HUSSLER – Momentarily steadied near the 600m when crowded by UP TRUMPZ, which had been carried in marginally by SKY LAKE.
TAWFIQ BOY – Threw its head back at the start and was then restrained to take a position at the rear of the field. Tactics queried, in particular prior to entering the home straight and in the early stages of the home straight. Apprentice J. Murphy stated that his instructions were to ride the gelding with cover and allow it to balance up in the home straight before placing it under pressure. He added that he was inside the heels of TARBERT from the 700m, however, was unable to improve and follow UP TRUMPZ through approaching the home turn. Upon straightening he then elected to shift to the outside and over the heels of TARBERT to gain clear running. Apprentice Murphy agreed with stewards that the option to follow UP TRUMPZ was an option that was available to him and in hindsight would have been a more suitable option. Stewards noted his comments.
SKY LAKE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
KIEVANN – Began awkwardly. Tightened for room and made contact with the running rail near the 900m. Apprentice M. Wishart, the rider of FIERY HEIGHTS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 900m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of KIEVANN. Apprentice Wishart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Thursday 6 August and expire at midnight on Friday 14 August 2020.
UP TRUMPZ – Dipped near the 600m.
Race 8: MILLERS SWIM SCHOOL QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1350M
The start of this race was delayed 8 minutes to allow ambulance officers to attend to a police incident on-course.
ROMAN AUREUS – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight near the 300m obtained a neat run between ROASTED and RIVER ROCKET and as a result bumped with RIVER ROCKET.
JAKAMA – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide with cover.
KEEN ON GOLD – Held up approaching the home turn until a point near the 150m.
ZOUVILLA – Bumped on jumping. Held up in the early part of the home straight.
REBEL SALUTE – Bumped between runners near the 1250m when JAKAMA shifted in when improving and ROMAN AUREUS shifted out marginally. A. Thompson dropped his whip
ROASTED – Began awkwardly.
CHAMPAGNE JET – Obliged to steady shortly after the start when RIVER ROCKET shifted out marginally. Held up for clear running near the 300m.
RIVER ROCKET – Connections advised that from the good barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a more forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Bumped and carried wider passing the 300m.
BETTER THAN GROOVY – Slow into stride. Shifted out to improve near the 600m and bumped with SIZZLING BABE.
TOP SOCIETY – Raced three wide with cover.
VERMUTIN – Raced three wide without cover.
SIZZLING BABE – Slow into stride. Bumped and carried wider passing the 600m.
Race 9: #BNERACES QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1640M
WAPITI – Commenced to overrace approaching the 900m when the pace was steadied.
REUS – Rider elected to shift from a rearward trailing position and improve three wide passing the 800m before being carried wider near the 600m.
LOVE EXPRESS – Raced three wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
TAVIS TOWN – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Became awkwardly placed between WAPITI and REUS approaching the 600m when attempting to shift out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
CONCEALED DYNAMITE – Laid out in the home straight.
MAKEUP – Slow into stride.
