GENERAL

As R Wiggins was not riding at the meeting due to Covid-19 restrictions, riding changes were made as per the Race-day Summary sheet.

Race 1: TAB VENUE MODE QTIS Two-Year-Old Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres

KING'S CONTRACT – Jumped out at the start bumping MISS GOT which became unbalanced.

OUR HOT FRIEND – Began awkwardly. Over-raced early and middle stages.

MISS GOT – Bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced.


Race 2: SKY RACING Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate 1350 metres

The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes when the bridle on ANGELIC ARCHER required readjustment on arrival at the barriers and further when CENTRAL AMERICA refused to load.

CENTRAL AMERICA declared a late scratching at 1:30pm when the mare refused to load into the barriers. Stewards ordered all bets on CENTRAL AMERICA be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st – SHE’S AT REGATTA - 21c win, 9c place
2nd RATIONS – 22c place
3rd HAZ DE BEE – 36c place

Co-trainer S O’Dea was advised CENTRAL AMERICA would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

SHE'S AT REGATTA – After being loaded into the barriers became fractious, lunged forward and made contact with the barrier partition sustaining a minor abrasion to its mouth, was removed and cleared to start by the on-course veterinarian surgeon.


Race 3: QLD GUINEAS DAY 1 MAY Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Plate 1350 metres

BOOM BABY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

KID MAC – Over-raced in the middle stages.

TAVI PIN (NZ) – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ZOFF THE BOSS – Slow to begin.

ZOUNATE – Near the 200 metres bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when SYTHAERO obtained a tight run to its outside. Rider R Maloney stated the gelding proved difficult to settle and failed to run finish off as expected. Lost off hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ATE HINCHES – From wide draw was restrained to a rearward position to obtain a position closer to the rail.

SYTHAERO – Near the 800 metres, when racing ungenerously was restrained from the heels of KID MAC. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight until a point near the 200 metres.

MAXCALEMMA – Near the 800 metres, when racing ungenerously restrained from the heels of KRAVITZ and was momentarily shifted wider on the track, before regaining its position a short distance later.


Race 4: DOOMBEN 10,000 DAY MAY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1350 metres

KIPCHOGE – When asked to comment on the performance rider M Rodd stated the gelding raced flat today and may not have backed up from its previous start at Doomben on a heavy track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BEN HUR – Shortly after the start blundered and lost ground. Near the 1200 metres over-raced badly and shifted wider on the track despite the efforts of its rider resulting in REAL EMPRESS being inconvenienced.

BAILEY BOO – Passing the 200 metres momentarily tightened when LUNA AMANTE laid in.

LARAINA – Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event.

REAL EMPRESS – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced near the 1200 metres, taken wider before restraining and settling one pair further back.


Race 5: DOOMBEN CUP DAY 22 MAY BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1600 metres

BERING SEA – Bumped entering the back straight on a number occasions and forced closer to the rails.

MORENDI – Laid in rounding the home turn.

I COULD DO BETTER (IRE) – Slow to begin. Near the 300 metres steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MORENDI which laid in.

THE HAND – Caught wide in the early stages. Entering the back straight shifted in on three occasions bumping heavily with BERING SEA forcing that runner closer to the rails. J Adams, rider of THE HAND, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MOSSHIKI – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until a point near the 200 metres.


Race 6: DERBY DAY 29 MAY BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1110 metres

SAY HAYA – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers, then very slow to begin. Trainer T Gollan was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

SKINS – Given the current Covid-19 restrictions relating to the use of saunas and spas, permission was granted for R Maloney to ride the gelding ½ kg over its allotted weight. Slow to begin.

AMICHE – Declared a late scratching at 2:15pm after kicking out in the tie up stalls, sustaining lacerations and exhibiting signs of lameness in the near hind leg. Trainer D Vandyke was advised AMICHE would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

SYD'S FOOTPRINTS – Rider M Du Plessis reported he was satisfied with how the gelding travelled in the event however when placed under pressure proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed SYD’S FOOTPRINTS to be suffering from cardiac arrythmia. Trainer B Baldwin was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance, including full results of an ECG test, and must also trial before it’s next race start.


Race 7: OAKS DAY 5 JUNE Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres

REPLICATION – Slow to begin.

RACKETEERING – Slow to begin.

RED WABBAT – Momentarily steadied near the 800 metres when crowded for room by JAZZ QUEEN which was taken in by ROMAN REPUBLIC which shifted in when not fully clear. R Maloney, rider of ROMAN REPUBLIC, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.


Race 8: STRADBROKE DAY JUNE BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1350 metres


INCHING CLOSER – Bumped near the 300 metres.

SACRED SUITE – Severely hampered near 300 metres.

RUN ON – Severely hampered near 300 metres.

THE DRILLER – J Orman, rider of THE DRILLER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 300 metres he shifted out from behind JACKSPRAT to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped heavily with INCHING CLOSER which was taken out onto SACRED SUITE which in turn was taken out onto RUN ON, both of which were severely hampered. The licence of J Orman to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 5th April up to and including midnight 12th April. In assessing penalty Stewards acknowledged J Orman’s good riding record under this rule and his guilty plea.

JACKSPRAT – Began awkwardly.

ZOULOU DANCER – Bumped at the start.

MOCAMBO – Jumped in at the start bumping ZOULOU DANCER.
