Race 1: XXXX DRY Fillies and Mares No Metro Wins Handicap 1200 metres
FROZEN IN TIME -Unable to secure clear running around the home turn and into the home straight.
DARING BELLE - Overraced in the early stages and remained racing three wide throughout.
SING FOR VIOLET -Trainer B. Smith advised that the mare will be ridden more positively. Ridden accordingly.
SHANJOMI – Post race veterinary examination found the mare to have a superficial laceration to its off fore cannon and was treated on course.
Race 2: SPRINGSOCIAL.COM.AU BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 2020 metres
HONORABLE SPIRIT -Near the 1000m, Apprentice J. Lloyd shifted out, resulting in LADY SOLERNO to be carried wider and was obliged to race three wide from that point.
CABOCHON LIL -Had to be eased to avoid the heels of RAPAPORT (NZ) rounding the home turn.
RAPAPORT (NZ) - The gelding laid in under pressure at the 400m, andweakened under pressure in the home straight, RAPAPORT (NZ) underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed the presence of a small amount mucous in its nostril.
BLACKLOG (NZ) - Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
WILD SHEILA - Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
LADY SOLERNO - Upon arrival at the barriers, LADY SOLERNO underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the request of its rider, and was passed fit to start. Upon weighing in, Apprentice S. Tomlinson reported that he was not satisfied with the action of LADY SOLERNO during the race. The mare underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings.
BOMBAY NIGHTS - Trainer M. Dunn advised that the mare will be ridden worse than midfield. Ridden accordingly, settling midfield with cover. Difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight.
Race 3: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 90 Handicap 2020 metres
SIR BARNABUS – Ridden forward from the 800m to take the lead by the 600m mark. When questioned, jockey B. Stewart reported that when the pace of the race slowed in the middle stages, he elected to take the initiative and improve around the field. Stewards noted his explanation.
MILK MAN (USA) – Slow to begin.
Race 4: TAB 3YO 1350 metres
PRINCE OF BOOM – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings.
STARTANTES – Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure from the 250m.
BULLOO – Soon after VETTA VELOCITA strode forward from the 1100m, jockey L. Cassidy shifted BULLOO out from behind the leader, resulting in VETTA VELOCITA being forced to race three wide for the remainder of the race.
VETTA VELOCITA – Over raced in the early stages. From the 1100m, Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor allowed his mount to stride forward in an attempt to gain a position outside the leader. Raced three wide for the remainder of the event. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings.
GENERAL WOLFFE – Over raced in the early stages.
Race 5: SPRING LADIES RACEDAY 23 OCTOBER Class 3 Plate 1615 metres
PUCKO – Slow to begin. Post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
THE BIG EATER – Slow to begin.
BETTER LAD – Had to be restrained when tightened for room near the 1300m. App. K. Wilson-Taylor, rider of VENDIDIT, was charged and found guilty pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in insufficiently clear of OUR FRAULEIN, resulting in that mare being tightened for room and takin in onto BETTER LAD which had to be restrained when tightened for room.
OUR FRAULEIN – Tightened for room near the 1300m, and forced inwards.
SHOSHA – Jockey S. Thornton reported on returning to scale that the mare felt comfortable in the run but didn’t quicken as expected and in her view SHOSHA is better suited when its runs are spaced as it may not have backed up from its last start on the 1st of September. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings and a swab sample was taken.
Race 6: BUNDABERG RUM DOOMBEN MILE 1615 metres
RELOADED – Slow to begin
BALLISTIC BOY – Passing the 800m improved to the inside of WAPITI resulting in WAPITI having to race three wide from that point. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 200m.
SILVERA – Raced three wide in the early stages. As a result was ridden forward to position itself outside the leader near the 1100m. Jockey R. Maloney confirmed it was not his intention to settle in a forward position, however, when the gelding began well and was three wide in the early stages, he elected to ride the gelding forward.
MATOWI (NZ) – Slow to begin.
WAPITI – Raced three wide from the 800m.
Race 7: WELL GROOMED RACING SEPTEMBER Colts, Geldings & Entires No Metro Win 1200 metres
FULL NELSON (NZ) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m, inclined to lay in. Raced three wide with no cover throughout. A warning was placed on the gelding regarding its racing manners.
REBEL SALUTE – Slow to begin.
BLUE ODYSSEY – Shifted out under pressure near the 250m.
FIREBOX – Momentarily steadied near the 250m. When App. K. Wilson-Taylor questioned regarding interference and being held up in final stages, App. K Wilson-Taylor stated that his mount was under pressure at the time when BLUE ODYSSEY shifted out, but soon afterwards, the gelding commenced to quicken and as a result was held up on heels over the final 150m.
BIG BAD BRUCE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, and had to alter course to the inside of FIREBOX in order to improve near the 250m.
ARTHUR IN CHARGE – Checked near the 800m when tightened for room by FULL NELSON (NZ), which hung in and away from FIREBOX. Raced three wide throughout.
Race 8: R.M. WILLIAMS OPEN 1110 metres
RACECOURSE ROAD – Jockey R. Maloney felt RACECOURSE ROAD was disappointing today when the gelding failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer K. Schweida indicated would now be freshened up.
WEBOUGHTAZOU – Jumped awkwardly and jockey Mark Du Plessis made contact with the barrier partition and became unbalanced. M. Du Plessis reported at scales the gelding was changing legs numerous times during the race.
Race 9: MOUNT FRANKLIN Class 6 Plate 1350 metres
ROMAN AUREUS – Underwent a veterinary examination after being fractious when being saddled in the tie-up stalls. Passed fit to run. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the straight near the 150m.
BOOM SPENDER – Slow to begin. When overracing on the heels of ROMAN AUREUS approaching the 800m shifted wider and raced three wide from that point in the race.
SO TAKEN – Hampered at the start by ROMAN AUREUS which shifted in.
