QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT DOOMBEN – 16TH FEBRUARY 2022 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT 7, SOFT 6 following Race 1, Soft 5 following Race 3 RAIL –7M PENETROMETER – 6.03 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R HitchenerStewards – P Zimmerman, M King, C WarrenClerk of Scales – C SimpsonJudge – R Thomas, A Redding Veterinarian – G KavanaghSwab Attendants – A Challen & J CromptonStarter – S Lister & R Smith GENERAL BRAILLER (8:00am) and RATIONS (8:15am) were both declared late scratchings by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice. Race 1: WRITTEN BY - 1ST YEARLINGS SELLING 2022 QTISTwo-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1110 metres HANG FIVE- Raced greenly in the home straight. HOLY TROJAN- Tightened at the start and lost ground. KOBE LAD- On returning to scale Jockey J Orman advised that his mount travelled comfortably in running however when placed under pressure failed to quicken and, in his opinion, raced flat today. Trainer T Gollan advised that, in light of today’s performance, the gelding would now be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from mild heat stress. OSTERBERG- Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Soft 6 Race 2: BUY QTIS @ MAGIC MILLIONS QTIS Two-Year-Old FilliesMaiden Plate 1110 metres BETTER BELIEVE IT- After being loaded, broke through the barriers before being quickly restrained by its rider. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. EVEN NOW- Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. GOOD GIRL- After being fractious in the barrier underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Performed below market expectations. Jockey R Maloney advised that, in his opinion, the filly had raced flat today and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery, however no other abnormalities were detected. LES GIRLS- Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover for the majority. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home start. NINETYNINE NOT OUT- Placed in restricted room shortly after the start. Race 3: TAB VENUE MODE Maiden Handicap 1110 metres MASTER TYLER- Jockey B Thompson reported the horse travelled strongly during the event and when asked to quicken did so for a short distance however peaked on its run late and, in his opinion, would derive a significant fitness benefit from today’s event when racing first up after a considerable spell. BAKUHATSU- Began awkwardly. DUNDAS- Began awkwardly. SUMNAMILLA- Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced. KURU LASS- Bumped on jumping. THE POWER OF ONE- After racing keenly in the early stages improved onto heels near the 700m and was obliged to shift to a three wide position. Consequently, raced three wide for the remainder. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Soft 5 Race 4: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW Maiden Handicap 1350 metres CHARLIE'S CASE- Obliged to steady passing the 800m after racing keenly and improving onto heels. HURIWAI- After beginning only fairly was tightened shortly after the start losing ground. As a result of racing keenly improved onto heels near the 1000m and shifted wider. Consequently, raced in a three wide position with cover for the remainder. MAJESTICS REQUEST- Slow into stride. Raced three wide with cover for the majority. ENUNCIATION- Bumped on jumping. TE JINA ROSE- After beginning only fairly failed to muster any early speed and as a consequence settled further back than anticipated. Obliged to steady passing the 800m after racing keenly and improving onto heels. CAPITAL EYES- Began awkwardly and contacted the barrier partition on jumping and as a consequence settled further back than anticipated. Obliged to steady passing the 800m after racing keenly and improving onto heels. SCENIC RIM - Raced three wide without over for the majority. Buffeted between runners on rounding the home turn. GEOSTORM - Whilst racing keenly passing the 900m was obliged to steady when awkwardly placed on heels. Passing the 450m, was placed in restricted room and obliged to ease when THAT’S A MIRACLE laid in despite the efforts of its rider. After being struck by the whip passing the 200m shifted out and was forced to steady when awkwardly placed on heels. THAT'S A MIRACLE- Whilst racing keenly passing the 1000m was obliged to steady when awkwardly placed on heels. App W Peel dropped her whip passing the 200m. Race 5: XXXX DRY BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1350 metres GENERAL DUBAI- App J Lloyd was fined the sum of $700 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. SOUBRETTE- Raced three wide without cover throughout. LAURIE - Raced three wide with cover throughout. RAPIDO GRIS- Slow into stride. VAMPIRINA DIAMOND- After being caught wide in the early stages, was restrained to a rearward position one off the fence approaching the 1000m. DARING BELLE- Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight. EXPERT EYE- Bumped on jumping. Race 6: GIRLS DAY OUT 12 MARCH Class 1 Handicap 2040 metres STYLE SEEKER- After standing awkwardly in the barriers was slow to begin and consequently settled further back than expected. ASHER- Jockey S Collett expressed disappointment with the performance of the gelding which failed to run on when placed under pressure. Trainer Mr C Meagher also expressed disappointment in the performance and advised that in light of today’s run the gelding would now be spelled. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant findings. DOUBLE BARRELL- Inclined to lay in from the 600m until the early stages of the home straight. SERENADE THE CAT- Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. EVRYNOW'N'THEN- Slow into stride. Race 7: RACECOURSE VILLAGE BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1640 metres The start was delayed whilst OUTBACK GLADIATOR cast a near fore plate enroute to the barriers which required refitting. MOSSHIKI- Slow into stride. Raced three wide without cover throughout. BY THE LAW- Brushed the running rail near the 1200m of its own accord. CALM SEEKER- Momentarily held up for clear running approaching the home turn. CHOIR- Began awkwardly. Race 8: ST PATRICKS DAY FESTIVAL 19 MARCH Class 2 Plate 1200 metres HOLIDAY DREAMS- Trainer R Heathcote reported that the gelding, which was having its second start for his stable today, had worked well in preparation for today’s event and he had expected a forward showing. Mr Heathcote added that when having its first start for his stable at the Sunshine Coast on 29th January 2022, was forced to race wide and was beaten only 3.9 lengths and therefore he was not entirely disappointed with its performance on that occasion. MERIDEN FLASH - Just prior to the start being effected the gelding turned its head to the side resulting it in losing some ground. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding Jockey R Fradd advised it was his intention from the barrier to settle in a position behind the leaders however as a result of the losing ground at the start he was forced to settle further back in the field than he had anticipated. Jockey Fradd added that the gelding travelled strongly during the event and was satisfied with the manner in which the gelding finished the race off from the 500m when asked to improve. QUACKERY- Slow into stride. On returning to scale Jockey J Orman advised that it had been his intention to take up a rearward position however the gelding had raced ungenerously and been inclined to hang out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. Trainers representative J King was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. MICROWAVE JENNY- Steadied when awkwardly placed on heels near the 800m. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages. PETUNIA- Momentarily steadied near the 100m.
