Stewards permitted the following weight variations:

Race 1: TAB VENUE MODE No Metro Wins Handicap 1050 metres

FOR MY ANNIE – Shifted in near the 100m to secure clear running.

THE EGYPTIAN – Began awkwardly bumping with YES DREAM. Raced wide with cover throughout.

MORT DOYLE – Trainer L Abbot was fined $200 under LR67(1) for a late rider declaration. Rounding the home turn was held up for clear running until the final stages.

DRAGON MISS – Raced wide with cover throughout. When Jockey Jim Byrne was asked to make a comment on the mare’s performance, he stated that the mare laid out for the majority of the race and as a result was for forced to race in the inferior section of the track which may have contributed to its performance.

HAMILTON HILL – Tired over the concluding stages.

MAYA BAY – Slow to begin. Approaching the 100m App J Lloyd was disappointed for a contested run between FOR MY ANNIE and HAMILTON HILL and as a consequence shifted in and was awkwardly placed of the heels of HAMILTON HILL, obliging it to steady, then shifted out clipping the heels of FOR MY ANNIE. Jockey J Orman was advised to exercise greater care when changing position in similar circumstances.

ONE SHY RUBY – Raced wide throughout.

YES DREAM – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.

BE WATER MY FRIEND – Raced wide with cover throughout.

ALL STARS – Began awkwardly bumping with YES DREAM.

DREAM WEAVING – Near the 200m when MORT DOYLE was held up for clear running had to alter his course, before becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of HAMILTON HILL who was tiring over the concluding stages.


Race 2: DRINKWISE QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1350 metres

HEROIC SON – Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

DEALING'S DONE – Shortly after the start had to restrain from the heels of HEROIC SON which shifted out.

MINKS STAR – Over-raced in the early stages.

RED TOP – Began awkwardly.


Race 3: FAMILY RACEDAY ON SALE NOW QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts
& Geldings Handicap 1350 metres

ALPINE EDGE – Hampered between runners shortly after the start. App J Lloyd was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the colt’s disappointing performance. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SUBTERRANEAN – When asked to comment regarding the gelding’s performance Jockey J Byrne stated that it was his intentions to be following THE KEWESS forward from the 600m and when that runner failed to improve as expected he was then obliged to come wide on the home turn. Jockey Byrne was satisfied with the gelding’s effort and felt that the lack of speed in the early part of the race made it difficult to make ground. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BEYONDTASTIC – Slow to begin.

GENERAL WOLFFE – Post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

HAMLET VON SNITZEL – Began awkwardly.

STAR OF ADELAIDE – Raced wide in the early stages.

THE KEWESS – Raced wide in the early stages.

PRIME ASSET – Over raced in the early stages.

PENTITO – Held up rounding the home turn.


Race 4: 2022/23 BRC MEMBERSHIP ON SALE NOW QTIS
Three-Year-Old Fillies Handicap 1350 metres

RHAPSODY ROSE – Began awkwardly bumping with FEARNOUGHT. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Had to restrain from the heels of TILIANAM (NZ) who was laying in as KARAOKE QUEEN was laying out. Jockey L Tarrant reported on return to scales that the filly felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have be exhibiting soreness in both hind legs. Trainer C Munce was advised that the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

TILIANAM (NZ) – Raced three wide throughout. Laid in under the pressure in the home straight.

FEARNOUGHT – Near the 600m improved onto the heels of RHAPSODY ROSE and had to be restrained. From the 200m to inside of the 100m was disappointed for a run on the heels of TILIANAM (NZ) and in doing so had to alter course to race to the outside of CHATTY LADY.

KARAOKE QUEEN – Hampered between runners on jumping. Laid under pressure over the concluding stages. App J Lloyd was fined $100 pursuant to AR211 for in that he returned to scales in excess of 0.5kg overweight.

VACCINE – After becoming fractious in the tie ups and sustaining lacerations to its head and was subsequently scratched at 12:43pm upon veterinary advice.
All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:

AIN'T SHE LOVELY – Raced three wide early before finding a position outside the leader.

CHATTY LADY – Raced three wide with cover throughout.


Race 5: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW Class 6 Plate 1200 metres

GARIBALDI – Held up rounding the home turn.

MASS DESTRUCTION – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until the final 200m.

TUMBLER RIDGE – Raced wide early before restraining to rearward position. Near the 900m when the pace slackened had to restrain from heels.

GOLDSBOROUGH (NZ) – Near the 900m when the pace slackened had to restrain from heels. Laid in under pressure over the finally 200m.

JETTY – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.


Race 6: SKY RACING Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres

Following the running of race 5 the track was upgraded to a soft 6.

TRAMONTO – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

NIMBOSTRATUS (FR) – Raced three wide throughout.

BUNDYANDCOKE – Over raced in the early stages before shifting out forcing TORUN wider. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Over the concluding stages attempted to savage another runner. Trainer A Robinson was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

TORUN – Slow to begin.

POINT THE WAGON – Slow to begin.

MENSA MAESTRO – The gelding resented being restrained in the early stages from the wide barrier. Over raced in the early stages.


Race 7: IMPRESSU DARBY McCARTHY 1110 metres


UNCOMMON JAMES – Began awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition.

WHY WE DRINK – Began awkwardly bumping with MISS HIPSTAR.

MISS HIPSTAR – Began awkwardly bumping with WHY WE DRINK.


Race 8: XXXX CHIEF DE BEERS 1110 metres

USMANOV – Bumped by SIMPLY FLY which shifted in near the 250m.

MR MOSAIC – Near the 800m became awkward in its action.

NIEDORP – When questioned regarding the mare’s performance Jockey G Cartwright stated that from the wide barrier, she was mindful of pace drawn to her inside and as such she elected to restrain her mount in an attempt to obtain cover.

SIMPLY FLY – Laid in rounding the home turn. Near the 250m shifted in making contact with USMANOV.

BOOMTOWN LASS – Began awkwardly.

CENTREFIRE – Jockey S Collett was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift in when approaching the 800m when crossing USMANOV who then had to restrain.

TAHITIAN DANCER – Reared on jumping losing ground.

WINSIDE – Began awkwardly.


Race 9: MAGIC MILLIONS PAM O'NEILL STAKES 1600 metres

TAMAHERE (FR) – Raced wide throughout with cover.

CHARMMEBABY (NZ) – Upon trainer L Mayfield’s request, a pre-race veterinary examination undertaken due to not being happy with the mare when it arrived on course. The mare was subsequently scratched at 2:35pm upon veterinary advice.

SELEQUE – Restrained from the wide barrier.

WILLO TITTO – Approaching the 1000m was bumped on a number of occasions by TYCOON EVIE when over-racing. Raced wide throughout with cover. App A Thompson was issued a charge under AR131(a) improper riding. Stewards acceded to request by App Thompson to have the inquiry adjourned and have his master present.

TYCOON EVIE – Approaching the 1000m was bumped by WILLO TITTO on a number of occasions. App A Thompson was fined $1000 pursuant to AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture passing the winning post. When assessing penalty Stewards took into account when making the celebratory gesture, he shifted out abruptly making significate contact with ZING resulting in both riders becoming unbalance.

ADELASE – Awkwardly placed on heels near the 1000m when over-racing.

ZING – Bumped over the concluding stages by TYCOON EVIE.

SEE MARIE – Restrained from the wide barrier.

NARRATED – Raced wide throughout.


Race 10: MEKKA RACES ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1350 metres

PROMETHEUS – Rounding the home turn was obliged to restrain when placed in restricted room between MOONAN ME and HOT SPRING GOLD.

SKINS – Passing the 300m was obliged to alter course to race outside STARLA.

DON'T STOP – Raced three wide early before crossing riding forward to find a position outside the leader near the 800m.

STARLA – Raced wide with cover throughout. Leaving the 600m was inclined to lay out.

STUCK WITH YOU (NZ) – Reared on jumping losing ground.

JOVIALITY – Over-racing in the early stages. Raced wide with cover throughout.

OCEAN TREATY (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Stewards will inquire into App J Lloyd riding over the final stages of OCEAN TREATY until a time and date to be fixed.

MOONAN ME – Raced wide with cover throughout. Jockey L Cassidy was fined $200 pursuant to AR211 for in that he returned to scales in excess of 0.5kg overweight.

HOT SPRING GOLD – Rounding the home turn shifted out.
