Thornton +0.5kg Race 1: ZOUSAIN FIRST YEARLINGS SELLING 2023 2YO HANDICAP 1200 metres TORQUE I TEE – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ARBAT – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings. MISHANI PERFECTION – Slow to begin. MISHANI AMBITIOUS – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Overraced middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: R&W ASCOT EAGLE WAY 2000 metres Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to assess the patrol footage after a section of running rail collapsed shortly after the start. The footage showed that this occurred after the field had passed this section and as a result, there was no effect on any runner, and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers. After this race, remedial work was then carried out to fix this section of running rail. NOAH 'N' A DEEL – Passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of TAPILDOODLEDO. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after contacting the running rail on entering the course proper, and was passed fit to start. Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages. FOUR MILE LANE – Jumped away awkwardly. THE HEROINE – Commenced to weaken passing the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Race 3: 3 XXXX COUNTRY STAMPEDE FINAL No Metro Wins Last 2 Years 1110 metres After the running of race 2, the track was upgraded to a Soft (6). THE TENOR – Slow to begin. DARE TO SHARE – Hampered shortly after the start by MY BEST EFFORT, which shifted in. Raced wide with cover. COAT OF ARMS – Raced wide. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 50m when racing to the inside of MORI’S PRESS, which laid in. MOSCINI – Bumped on jumping with Loy. Raced wide with cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and passing the 200m, shifted in contacting DYNAMIC VERSE. DYNAMIC VERSE – Bumped shortly after jumping by EARLY PLEA. Approaching the 100m, raced in restricted room to the inside of MOSCINI which laid in. EARLY PLEA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MENINDEE – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 150m was disappointed for a run between TEMPO and THE TENOR, and was obliged to shift out to improve. MY BEST EFFORT – Raced wide with cover. TEMPO (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid in over the concluding stages. SPLASHER – Overraced in the middle stages. ATTACKABEEL – Held up on entering the home straight. MORI'S PRESS – Jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the 800m became awkwardly placed on the heels of TEMPO, and as a result raced keenly for a number of strides. Held up for clear running from the 500m until the 100m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. COCHRANE – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages. BUNGARRIBEE LAD – Jumped away awkwardly. AHWAHNEECHEE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. HARD STRIDE – Raced three wide. Race 4: LARAINE BLADES 75TH CELEBRATION OPEN QUALITY HANDICAP 2000 metres STARDOME (NZ) – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Raced wide in the early stages and then ridden forward to take up a position near the lead passing the 1400m. Jockey J. Orman commented that the gelding raced flat and was disappointing today. A post race veterinary examination revealed general muscle soreness. Stewards will follow up with the stable in the coming days as to the future plans for the geldings’ preparation. LIGULATE – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. AUSSIE NUGGET (IRE) – Slow to begin. Overraced during the middle stages. Held up rounding home turn until approaching the 200m. ROMAKASH (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. STREET DANCER – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and passing the 300m, improved into a narrow run between STARDOME and TEARS OF LOVE. KARMAZONE – Slow to begin. GREEK HERO (GB) – Disappointed for a run on entering the home straight when attempting to shift out and improve between KARMAZONE and LIGULATE and as a result was obliged to shift back in. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested to the line. Race 5: COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE (FINAL) No Metro Wins Last 2 Years 1600 metres BOLD KINGSTON – Jockey N. Day commented that the gelding has a tendency to lay in throughout the event. FAST TRAIN – Raced in restricted room passing the 150m. KAPPY CINO – Raced wide. On returning to scale, the gelding was found to have bled from the off side nostril. Connections were advised that the gelding will be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again. BURDEN – Raced wide. Jockey J. Huxtable commented on returning to scale that he wasn’t happy with the geldings’ action. A post race veterinary examination revealed near fore lameness and heat stress. Trainer C. Austin was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to BURDEN racing again. NO INUENDO – Raced wide. PALATE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. VINASTA – Held up for clear running from the 600m until entering the home straight. KIKI COCO – Raced wide. MR VISTA – When overracing in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 1400m when racing to the inside of BURDEN. Raced wide. Had to be restrained from heels passing the 800m. LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Restrained on jumping to take up a position closer to the running rail. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: AQUIS STALLIONS PIERATA PLATE 1200 metres SPIRITUALISED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. ROLL UP – Bumped with COUNT DA BEANS on jumping. COUNT DA BEANS – Bumped with ROLL UP on jumping. Laid in over the concluding stages. Race 7: MERLO COFFEE Class 6 Plate 1350 metres GUNTANTES – Help up for clear running passing the 200m and laid in under pressure. PETRONIUS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SAGACIOUS – Overraced early. SCOTTISH PRINCE – Jockey R. Maloney commented he was unhappy with the gelding’s action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. LUSKIN HERO – Laid in during the middle stages. HAKKAI MARU – Jumped away awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and was slow as a result. Jockey J. Byrne when asked to comment on the mares’ performance commented that the mare hung out throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed bilateral forelimb lameness. Trainer L. White was advised that the mare will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Race 8: MAGIC MILLIONS GEORGE MOORE STAKES 1200 metres GARIBALDI – Jumped away awkwardly. Passing the winning post, shifted in carrying CONTEMPTUOUS inwards across the line of GOLDSBOROUGH, which then clipped the heels of CONTEMPTUOUS. Jockey R. Maloney was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he was careless in shifting in when not fully clear of CONTEMPTUOUS. Jockey R. Maloney was suspended for twelve (12) days commencing midnight the 10th of December 2022 until midnight the 22nd of December 2022. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account rider Maloney’s good record. CONTEMPTUOUS – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the barriers, and was passed fit to start. GOLDSBOROUGH (NZ) – Began awkwardly. SAMOOT (IRE) – Overraced in the early stages. MISS DIVINE EM – Inconvenienced on jumping. Race 9: CHANNEL 7 MODE STAKES 1200 metres CHINNY BOOM – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained off the heels of EXO LADY for a number of strides passing the 800m. HONKYTONK DIVA – Slow to begin. EKATERINA – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. RUSSIAN WARRIOR – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide. Lost winker during the race. TEQUILA DANCER – Hampered on jumping away. MINKS STAR – Raced wide. ALAMIRA – Raced wide. SAWEETIE – Jumped awkwardly, shifting out abruptly bumping MINKS STAR. Raced wide. SWEET FANTASY – Jumped awkwardly. YALLA – Jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with TEQUILA DANCER. Awkwardly placed on heels on entering the home straight.
