GENERAL
 
As N Berriman and P Hammersley were injured, replacements were made as per the Race Day summary sheet. Both N Berriman and P Hammersley will require a medical clearance prior to their next race or trial ride. 
 
Stewards approved the following jockeys to ride overweight:
Race 2 – Andrew Mallyon plus 1/2kg at 55.5kg.
Race 4 – James Orman plus 1kg at 55kg.
 
 
Race 1: RACECOURSE VILLAGE Maiden Handicap 1650 metres
 
LADY VALENTINE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance rider A Jones stated the horse, after being slow to begin was not suited by the steady early tempo of the race and did not let down as expected in the home straight.
 
KUREDER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
RED HOT RUBIX – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward and racing outside the leader from the 1100m.
 
SIGNITA – Taken in, crowded for room, and buffeted between runners near the 1500m. Trainer K Schweida reported following the event the filly was displaying symptoms of heat stress. 
 
SUBSTANCE – Jumped out at the start and bumped with NEWMARKET MISS. Checked near the 1500m. At a subsequent inquiry R Maloney, rider of KUREDER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 1500m he permitted his mount to shift in, resulting in both NEWMARKET MISS and SIGNITA being crowded for room and being taken in which in turn resulted in SUBSTANCE being crowded for room, making heavy contact with the running rail, and having to be checked.  The licence of R Maloney to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 25th January up to and including midnight 3rd February 2023.
 
NEWMARKET MISS – Jumped in at the start and bumped with SUBSTANCE. Near the 1500m crowded for room, taken in and lost its position.
 
SHE SHALL RULE – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
 
Race 2: GIRLS DAY OUT 4th MARCH QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden
Plate 1200 metres
 
 
A LOT OF BOOTY – Jumped out at the start and bumped LADY MASQUERADE.
 
CANNON HILL – Raced in restricted room a short distance after the start when being restrained to obtain cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from atrial fibrillation. Trainer B Wakefield was advised CANNON HILL would require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG test, and must also trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
SIR CARTER – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOOMSITA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LADY MASQUERADE – Bumped at the start. Leaving the 200m improved quickly to the inside of WHITE RIBBON resulting in CANNON HILL, which was weakening, and WORTHY ESSGEE both being crowded momentarily for racing room. Adin Thompson, rider of LADY MASQUERADE, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
WHITE RIBBON – Near the 100m raced in restricted room to the inside of READY AZZ EVA which shifted in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have a slow post-race recovery and to also be displaying symptoms of the thumps.
 
READY AZZ EVA – Steadied when racing in restricted room near the 700m. Disappointed for a run passing the 200m before being obliged to shift in and secure clear running.
 
Following this event, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.
 
 
Race 3: CASCADE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
BEAN GROOVY – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m shifted out momentarily when over-racing.
 
BETTER BE NORDY – Checked at the start and lost ground.
 
BIG SKY COUNTRY – Began awkwardly.
 
FIT AND PROPER – Jumped out abruptly at the start and checked BETTER BE NORDY. Over-raced for a short distance near the 700m. Bumped leaving the 200m.
 
RUSSIAN SUB – Lost off fore plate in running.
 
WYATT RIVER – Checked passing the 900m. K Wilson-Taylor, rider of BEAN GROOVY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that passing the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of YASMEEN which had to be steadied and continued to shift in resulting in WYATT RIVER having to be checked to avoid the heels of BEAN GROOVY.  Raced greenly at various stages for the remainder of the event. The licence of K Wilson-Taylor to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 1st February up to and including midnight 10th February 2023.
 
YASMEEN – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Steadied near the 900m to avoid the heels of BEAN GROOVY which shifted in when not fully clear. Held up rounding the home turn and near the 200m, when racing in restricted room between FIT AND PROPER and BIG SKY COUNTRY, was buffeted for a short distance.
 
PHOSPHER BRONZE – Change of tactics, to be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. After beginning well and being caught wide, was unable to be restrained and raced wide for the majority of the event. Ridden accordingly. Bumped leaving the 200m.
 
 
 
Race 4: SKY RACING Maiden Plate 1110 metres
 
BRONZE DRAGON – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced approaching the home turn.
 
CAREFUL MISSILE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
HYPERVELOCITY – Blundered on jumping and lost ground.
 
JACKSON ON TIME – Began awkwardly.
 
WINDSHADOW – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
MAGURO – Slow to begin.
 
WHATTA WHITT – Near the 450m raced greenly and shifted out before abruptly shifting in when being corrected resulting in rider C Bayliss losing use of his offside iron and becoming very awkward in the saddle before regaining use near the 150m. Trainer P Busuttin was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners WHATTA WHITT.  
 
GOODSCENT – Passing the winning post suffered an injury to the off-hind pelvis and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Post-mortem samples were taken from GOODSCENT.
 
LISAILI – Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
MAID TO FIT – Blundered on jumping, shifted in abruptly and bumped heavily with LISAILI which lost ground.
 
RADIANT REMI – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
Following this event, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
 
 
Race 5: THE KEN MONK Class 1 Handicap 1050 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo finish image for 4th place. After doing so correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.
 
MISHANI SNIPER – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Approaching the winning post rolled in and bumped with CRAZY EYED FRED.
 
NASHIRA – Held up from the 500m until a point passing the 150m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted passing the 800m, particularly if there was an opportunity to hold a more forward position behind GROOVIN THE MOO, rider B Thornton advised instructions were not to pressure the horse in the early stages and to allow NASHIRA to settle early as the horse can tends to over-race. B Thornton added that from the 500m he was unable to improve into the race when held up behind SNEAKY DAY and to the inside of EVER BELLA. Co-trainer M Hoysted confirmed the instructions issued that the horse cannot be pressured early in its races and needs to be held up and come with one run late. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
BOODUA ROMANCE – Bumped at the start.
 
EVER BELLA – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages when the pace of the race was steady. Approaching the home turn obliged to steady from heels when racing keenly.
 
VONZITHER – Jumped out at the start and bumped BOODUA ROMANCE. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
BANKROLL BABE – Bumped at the start.
 
CRAZY EYED FRED – Slow to begin.
 
CABRINELLA – Jumped out at the start and bumped BANKROLL BABE. Raced wide for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from symptoms of heat stress.
 
 
 
Race 6: LADBROKES MATES MODE BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1650 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes when both BULLOO and GIVEITALLALI proved difficult to load.
 
GIVEITALLALI was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 3:42pm when the horse was unable to be loaded into the barriers. On declaration of Correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on GIVEITALLALI refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st TIDAL CREEK – 0c win, 1c place
2nd BULLOO – 2c place
3rd SIR WILLIAM BRUCE – 2c place
 
Trainer S Cole was advised the horse would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
 
TIDAL CREEK – Blundered on jumping.
 
BULLOO – Proved difficult to load. Trainer S Kendrick was advised BULLOO would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the position outside the leader from the 1200m.
 
SIR WILLIAM BRUCE – Slow to begin.
 
TOP BOY – As P Hammersley was injured, Stewards permitted Andrew Mallyon to ride the horse.
 
THE LOVE ROCKET – Slow to begin.
 
SEEFELD – Slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 7: XXXX DRY BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1200 metres
 
ORLEANS ROCK – After being slowto begin was then crowded by HE KNOWS. Approaching the winning post improved onto the heels of BEAU IDEAL and had to be steadied.
 
HE KNOWS – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
EXPECTANT – Restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
MAGNITUDO – Raced keenly and refused to settle in the early and middle stages when leading the event.
 
DIVINE COURAGE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 8: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB Class 5 Handicap 1350 metres
 
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Jumped out at the start and bumped MISS BALTIMORE.
 
CONTRITION – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
HOPEFUL STAR – Crowded on jumping and lost ground.
 
MERIMEE – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn. Over-raced in the early stages when leading the event.
 
MISS BALTIMORE – Bumped at the start.
 
 
Race 9: BRC MEMBERSHIP PLUS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
APPLE TART – Jumped in at the start and bumped SEDUCTION QUEEN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained lacerations to the off foreleg and was treated on course.
 
SEDUCTION QUEEN – Bumped at the start and unbalanced. Near the 300m disappointed for a run between MASTER RED and APPLE TART which shifted out marginally.
 
HOKAHEY – Began awkwardly.
 
SURF SONIC – Declared a late scratching at 3:47pm when the horse was displaying symptoms of colic.
 
SHAGONAROCK – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Lost near fore plate in running.
 
ROSATO – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
OKALANI – Raced in restricted room to the inside of SHAGONAROCK between the 700m and 600m.
