GENERAL

As Jockey Danny Peisley was ill, he was replaced as per the Steward’s summary.

Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting-

Race 2 – BULLOO – Justin Huxtable +1kg

Race 1: SKY RACING Maiden Plate 1050 metres

MILTON ROAD (NZ) – Over raced during the early and middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight and then shifted in abruptly over the concluding stages.

PRIDE OF PASSION – Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey A Thompson reported that the gelding raced greenly and quite field shy, and when placed in restricted room approaching the 500m, lost ground and weakened. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Hineman was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.

HALLSIDE MARTINI – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.

TIKITIBOO – Began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

Race 2: CASCADE Class 4 Handicap 1640 metres

GHOSTWRITER – Bumped on jumping.

BULLOO – Slow to begin. When the pace slackened leaving the 1200m, had to be restrained from heels. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until a point leaving the 200m.

HE IS – Began awkwardly, bumping GHOSTWRITER. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

HOKAHEY – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. When asked to comment the tactics adopted particularly racing closer to the lead in today’s event, Jockey S Collett indicated that after beginning well, she allowed her mount to travel where it was comfortable which was closer to the lead than she had initially anticipated.

PEEKAYS LEGACY – Inconvenienced approaching the 200m, when avoiding the heels of HOKAHEY which shifted out.

Race 3: QTIS JEWEL RACEDAY 18 MARCH Class 1 Handicap 1640 metres

SNATCH (NZ) – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up in the early stages of the home straight.

SEEFELD – Slow to begin.

WIZARD OF VISP – Unable to improve from leaving the 500m when awkwardly placed at heels for a short distance. Again held up for clear running from the 300m until a point near the 200m.

ELLIEZ STAR – Slow to begin. Caught wide in the early stages before assuming the position outside the lead approaching the 1300m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey G Cartwright stated that in her opinion the filly didn’t run out the 1600m.

Race 4: XXXX DRY Maiden Handicap 1640 metres

DIFFERENT ROAD – Began awkwardly. Clipped heels and blundered approaching the 450m when TANTALUM shifted wider. Jockey R Jamieson the rider of TANTALUM was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR131(a) in that when approaching the 450m, allowed her mount to shift out across the rightful running of DIFFERENT ROAD, when insufficiently clear causing DIFFERENT ROAD to clip the heels of TANTALUM and blunder. Jockey R Jamieson had her licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 13 days to start midnight the 24 of February and to conclude midnight the 9th of March.

NOT A FAT BOY – Heavily bumped and became very awkward shortly after the start causing its rider to become unbalanced on two occasions.

CHAYSE'N' THE KING – Severely tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be checked. Raced wide in the early stages and improved onto heels near the 1350, had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track, soon after was allowed to stride forward by its rider to take up the leading position near the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recover.

PREFERRAL (NZ) – Slow to begin and shortly after was tightened for room and lost further ground. After improving into a tight run, was steadied and shifted closer to the fence leaving the 800m.

BRAMBLE BAY – Slow to begin. Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 1400m. Steadied after passing the 800m when tightened for room.

DEVINE FALLS –Began awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with STAR CHANCE. Over raced whilst wide in the early stages and was permitted to stride forward by its rider to take up the leading position passing the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Sitek was advised that DEVINE FALLS would not be permitted to start at metropolitan meetings until such time that the horse establishes improved form at country or provincial meetings.

TANTALUM – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and as a result became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to the near hind tendon, consistent with having been galloped on.
