Race 1: QTIS Jewel Raceday 18 March Class 5 Handicap 1650 metres
 
RULE THE WORLD – Stood flatfooted at the start and took no competitive part in the event. Prior to declaration of correct weight, Stewards reviewed the start and on doing so were satisfied that RULE THE WORLD was afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that the gelding will require a barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
GHOSTWRITER – Laid in when placed under pressure over the final 200m.
 
GENTLE PRINCE – Raced keenly for a short distance in the middle stages when the speed slackened.
 
FLYING JOY – When questioned regarding tactics adopted, jockey S. Collett stated after beginning well and being caught wide early with only moderate speed, she allowed her mount to stride forward and reach the lead near the 1000m.
 
APPLECROSS – Shortly after the start, was steadied from heels.
 
GIVEITALLALI – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
 
Race 2: Stradbroke Season On Sale Now Maiden Plate 1650 metres
 
IN CLOSE REACH – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
TIME TO TESTIFY – Raced very ungenerously and inclined to hang out throughout, shifting wider leaving the 1200m turn and again leaving the 800m, proving very difficult to ride. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that the gelding will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.  
 
WANDILLA – Near the 450m, raced in restricted room for a short distance and steadied when LOOSE UNIT rolled in.
 
FAUSTO – Slow to begin.
 
CAMPIONE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 3: International Women’s Day Fillies and Mares BM65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
DEEP ROMANCE – Restrained from a wide barrier as the start was effected. Held up and unable to improve from the 250m until the finishing line and was unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
CASSIA LANE – Raced wide throughout.
 
ARGYLE PINK – Lost the near hind plate in running.
 
THIRD TIME ROUND – Raced keenly during the early stages. Inclined to lay out in the latter part of the home straight.
 
DREAM SONG – When asked to comment on seemingly improved performance of DREAM SONG, trainer P. Duff stated that at its most recent start at the Sunshine Coast, the mare was obliged to race wide throughout which had a detrimental effect on its chances. Stewards noted his comments.
 
POETIC DRAMA (NZ) – Rider B. Thompson reported that after beginning awkwardly, was slow to muster speed and settled further back than he had anticipated.
 
ALFA LILY – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: SKY RACING QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
 
BOOM SHOT – Slow to begin.
 
DARK CHILL – Leaving the 700m improved onto heels and was steadied and lost ground.
 
NATIONAL INTEREST – Raced wide throughout.
 
SPIRIT OF HEATH – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight and when approaching the 200m, was disappointed for a run to the inside of RUM REVOLUTION, which laid in, obliging jockey Loy to change course back to near the inside in an attempt to secure clear running.
 
WHISKY TRAIN (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
CICCONE – Underwent a veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the tie up stalls whilst receiving farrier attention prior to racing and cleared to start. Raced wide throughout.
 
POLARISING – Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
RUM REVOLUTION – Laid in near the 200m.
 
SEPTARIA – Slow to begin. Steadied when racing tightly to the inside of PROLIFIC MELODY.
 
PROLIFIC MELODY – Improved onto heels near the 700m and obliged to check his mount.
 
 
Race 5: 35 Eureka Graduates in 5 Years QTIS Three-Years-Old
Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
BEAST OF BURDEN – Slow to begin.
 
IMPENDING RAIN – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
TRIBECA STAR – Reared as start was effected and lost ground before mustering speed. Near the 800m raced in restricted room for a short distance when tightened by WHISKY DREAM which shifted in when racing ungenerously.
 
WHISKY DREAM – Trainer K. Kemp advised Stewards that the gelding will be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly causing its rider to become momentarily unbalanced. Pulled very hard during the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
DIRTY DANCING – Raced wide throughout.
 
MY MISCHKA – Commenced to give ground from the 400m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer’s representative for the G. Heinrich stable was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly for today’s poor performance.
 
ON HARGRAVE – Slow to begin.
 
PARTY SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
ROCK LOBSTER – Fractious in the barriers and slow to begin. Stewards questioned jockey D. Smith regarding his mount shifting wider when rounding the home turn which availed a run to his inside for TRIBECA STAR. Jockey Smith stated that prior to the race, he had walked the course and on viewing earlier races had formed the opinion that the preferred ground entering the straight was 4-5 horses away from the rail, and that whilst it was his intention to ease the filly onto that course, he also added that it was inclined to lay out sooner than expected. On reviewing the film and considering jockey Smiths’ comments, Stewards noted his explanation.
 
BELLE OF THE BAYOU – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: Magic Millions Gold Coast March 20-21 Class 3 Plate 1110 metres
 
LOOK A'LIKE – Slow to begin.
 
BALDASSARE – Shortly after the start eased when racing in restricted room between STELLAR MAGIC and INASEC. Steadied when racing on heels near the 650m.
 
YOUR TOO GOOD – Bumped near the 200m.
 
BAD EDUCATION – Raced wide for the majority. Near the 500m, steadied from the heels of REEANON which was taken out by GLAMOUR AND GLORY when it shifted out to improve.
 
INASEC – Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 7: Ladbrokes Punter Assist BM65 Handicap 2060 metres
 
GO MILLO – Apprentice J. Lloyd was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being 1 more than permitted.
 
DAUVENAY – Jockey A. Mallyon reported that the mare felt awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative Mr M. Eggleston advised that the mare would undergo a veterinary examination by the stable veterinarian upon return to the stable of which he would forward the results and anything else that may come to light that may have had an effect on the performance of DAUVENAY.
 
SNATCH (NZ) – Over raced for a short distance near the 1300m.
 
BONBORA (NZ) – Steadied from heels near the 1700m. Apprentice Y. Lewis was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 7 times prior to the 100m, being 2 more than permitted.
 
FLYBRIDGE – When over racing near the 1700m, shifted wider momentarily when the pace slackened.
 
VALLEY'S SISTER – Steadied from heels near the 1700m. Over raced for a short distance near the 1300m.
 
HELEVA DEEL – Disappointed for a run approaching the 250m when MIGHTY WILLIE rolled in, before shifting outside that runners’ heels to secure clear running.
 
THAT'LLDOTOO – Raced wide throughout.
 
MARIINSKY – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 8: XXXX Dry Colts, Geldings and Entires BM65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
BROCKY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
DELUXE LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running between the 400m and the 100m.  
 
STARZAM – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m inconvenienced and carried wider when ALVIN THE BOLD steadied from heels of NIGHT GUY.
 
ALVIN THE BOLD – Began awkwardly. Near the 1000m steadied from heels of NIGHT GUY when over racing. Approaching the finish line, raced in restricted room between NIGHT GUY and STARZAM. Jockey A. Thompson was advised to stop and straighten his mounts earlier in similar circumstances.
 
DIVINE COURAGE – Slow to begin. Raced very keenly during the middle stages. Steadied from heels of SHA OF GOMER near the 500m. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn before improving onto heels from the 100m and went to the line without being fully tested by its rider.
 
NIGHT GUY – When under hard riding, shifted out over the concluding stages before being bumped on the hindquarters by ALVIN THE BOLD and becoming unbalanced.
 
GREEK STAR – Jockey T. Marshall was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) in that he raised his whip hand above shoulder height.
