Fogden had failed to apply to Stewards to allow R. Maloney to ride overweight, he was subsequently replaced by J. Byrne as the rider of MAJORELLE. Race 1: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1350 metres Start of this event delayed due to CRANKY HARRY rearing in the barriers and momentarily getting its near foreleg over the adjoining partition. The gelding was subsequently removed, underwent a veterinary examination and cleared to start. Trainer J. Bruce was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. CRANKY HARRY – Began awkwardly. BOOM SHOT – Slow to begin. CRIPPS TONITE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. MEDIA SCANDAL – Jockey J. Byrne reported at scale that the filly failed to quicken as anticipated in the home straight, and in his opinion was disappointing. He further added that this may have been a result of racing in inferior ground in the home straight. SPOOKY SPIRIT – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Approaching the 200m obliged to alter course before being disappointed again to the outside of STILL READY before shifting wider approaching the 100m. Stewards enquired into Apprentice Jaden Lloyd’s riding over the concluding stages, after viewing the available footage, apprentice Lloyd pled guilty to a charge of failing to fully ride his mount out to the line, pursuant to AR131(b). The riding licence of Apprentice Lloyd was subsequently suspended for a period of two (2) weeks to commence midnight the 30th of March and to expire on midnight the 13th of April 2023. In determining penalty, Stewards were satisfied that apprentice Lloyd’s failing to ride his mount to the competition of the event had cost SPOOKY SPIRIT 4th place, as well as this being apprentice Lloyd’s fifth offence under this rule. Apprentice Lloyd was advised of his right to internal review. Race 2: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1050 metres PAPERCLIP – Shifted out shortly after the start bumping CALESCENT who was carried wider. Bumped on the hindquarters for a number of strides leaving the 200m. ISLAND MAGIC – Bumped for a number of strides shortly after the start. Shifted in under pressure leaving the 200m, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten her mount. HARD REYVA – Raced keenly during the middle stages. RELIABLE RUBY (NZ) – Checked leaving the 200m. At a subsequent enquiry, jockey J. Huxtable was found guilty of a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that approaching the 200m he directed his mount between PAPERCLIP and the inside running rail where there was insufficient room to attempt a run, resulting in RELIABLE RUBY making contact with the hindquarters of PAPERCLIP as well as the running rail, and ultimately having to be checked. Jockey J. Huxtable’s license to ride in races was suspended for 13 days commencing at midnight the 29th of March 2023 and ending at midnight the 11th of April 2023. Jockey Huxtable was advised of his right to internal review. AIRSTRIKE – Bumped and crowded for room shortly after the start. Held up rounding home turn and obliged to alter course leaving the 300m. Race 3: SKY RACING Class 3 Handicap 1640 metres HE'S THE ULTIMATE (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn and obliged to alter course leaving the 200m to secure clear running. MOVEITMOVEIT – Caught wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to take up a position outside leader at the 1300m. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that it wasn’t his intention to race in a forward position, however after being caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to settle outside the leader. He further added that the gelding didn’t quicken as anticipated in the home straight and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. GAMBU (NZ) – Laid in under pressure leaving the 300m. Approaching the 100m, shifted out slightly became awkwardly placed at heels of EXOLAY and had to be steadied. OUTBACK GLADIATOR – Awkwardly placed at the heels of FLYBRIDGE leaving the 50m and had to be momentarily steadied when that runner shifted out under pressure. DIVINE COURAGE – Slow to begin. Held up rounding home turn until leaving the 100m. FLYBRIDGE – Held up for clear running rounding the home until a point leaving the 200m. Shifted out under pressure approaching the 50m and had to be corrected by its rider. EXOLAY – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. Jockey J. Byrne advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future. Race 4: CASCADE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1640 metres ORIGINAL GLAZE – Prior to entering the mounting enclosure, underwent a pre race veterinary examination and declared a late scratching acting on veterinary advice at 2.35pm, after being found to be lame in both fore feet. Trainer Mr T. Lambourn was advised that ORIGINAL GLAZE will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on ORIGINAL GLAZE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:1st SEA RIPPLE: 15c win, 15c place2nd HAVLICEK: 19c place The start of this event was delayed owing to GIVEITALLALI refusing to be loaded into the barriers. GIVEITALLALI was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2.51pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on GIVEITALLALI be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:1st SEA RIPPLE: 12c win, 11c place2nd HAVLICEK: 19c placeTrainer Mr S. Cole was advised that GIVEITALLALI will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. HAVLICEK – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Shifted in during early stages of the home straight. VIVENZO – Trainer M. Morrison was fined $100 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m. DREAM SONG – Leaving the 200m, became momentarily awkwardly placed at the heels of VIRTUOSITY and was obliged to alter course. VIRTUOSITY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 5: XXXX DRY Maiden Plate 1110 metres HYPERVELOCITY – Slow to begin. LE GRAND LOUVRE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. DULY ELECTED – Slow to begin. Approaching the 250m, was obliged to alter course to the outside of ANOTHER DIMENSION to obtain clear running. ANOTHER DIMENSION – Slow to begin. A short distance after the start was obliged to steady from the heels of LE GRAND LOUVRE and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: FAMILY RACEDAY 15 APRIL QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1350 metres CANELANDER – Raced ungenerously and shifted outwards near the 800m, then continued to race ungenerously until approaching the 600m. SPIRIT OF HEATH – Inconvenienced near the 800m. WHISKY DREAM – Jumped awkwardly, bumping with AKERMATIVE and became unbalanced. Rider J. Orman reported that it was not his intention to lead, however when caught wide in the early stages, the gelding raced keenly and for this reason he permitted horse to stride forward to lead leaving the 800m. He further added that he advised connections that the removal of the blinkers may be of benefit to the gelding in an effort to help it to settle. Trainer K. Kemp concurred with the comments of jockey Orman and advised Stewards he will remove the blinkers going forward. AKERMATIVE – Jumped awkwardly and bumped with WHISKY DREAM and became unbalanced. Raced wide throughout. OLD SONG – Slow to begin. Obliged to alter course near the 300m to secure clear running. FOSSIL FUEL – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Race 7: LADBROKES IT! Class 5 Handicap 1350 metres ROGUE ROCKER – Slow to begin. BONCASSIE – Bumped on jumping by ATLANTIC KING. ATLANTIC KING – Began awkwardly. Lost the off fore plate in running. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities apart from minor speedy cuts on the off fore and off hindlimbs. MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Laid in under pressure approaching the 450m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of NIGHT GUY which shifted out to improve. Race 8: RACECOURSE VILLAGE Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres SMYTZER – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and bumped by the riderless KRONENBOURG (NZ) approaching the 800m. BALDASSARE – Inconvenienced by the riderless KRONENBOURG (NZ) leaving the 800m. Inconvenienced and carried wider rounding the home turn by the riderless h KRONENBOURG (NZ). Approaching the 250m, momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed to the outside of the riderless KRONENBOURG (NZ). KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Began awkwardly resulting in rider B. Thompson being dislodged. A post race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near fore heel bulb. MAJORELLE – Jumped inwards at the start. Inconvenienced by the riderless KRONENBOURG (NZ) leaving the 800m. ELARSKI – Obliged to alter course at the 300m to the outside of VONZITHER. TITANIUM – Slow to begin. VONZITHER – Improved onto the heels of DUCHESS ROTHESAY leaving the 800m.
