Race 1: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1350 metres
HIMEJI – Slow to begin, shifted out and contacted RINGER’S REWARD. Raced greenly throughout. Lost the near hind plate in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
RINGER'S REWARD – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CONQUISTADORES – Had to be restrained near the 1000m when SPICY LEGEND crossed to the rail when insufficiently clear. Jockey R. Wiggins, rider of SPICY LEGEND, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for shifting ground when not fully clear.
Race 2: SKY RACING QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 2040 metres
MISHANI SPARTAN – Was declared late scratching 12.19pm when apprentice C. Graham was injured in the mounting yard. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets invested on MISHANI SPARTAN be refunded with the following deductions:
1st : COMPASS ROSE - 9c win, 9c place
2nd: AMALGAMATION – 15c place
3rd: COPPLESON – 9c place
Apprentice C. Graham was advised that she must furnish a medical clearance including the results of a concussion examination.
COPPLESON (NZ) – Slow to begin.
MISHANI KINGDOM – Fractious in the barriers.
THINK D'ORO – Slow to begin.
SILVER GODDESS – Began awkwardly. Passing the 800m was allowed to shift wider and improve to obtain a position outside the leader. As a result, then raced four wide for the remainder of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.
AMALGAMATION – Raced greenly in the home straight.
SADDLES – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3: FAMILY DAY 15 APRIL BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2040 metres
Following the running of race 2, the track was upgraded to a Soft (7).
TINTINWIN (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
CLYDE – Began awkwardly.
MAEVILA RULER – When question regarding her instructions, apprentice A. Jones stated that she was instructed to be positive in today’s event. She added that after jumping well, her mount was able to take up a leading position without having to be pressured. She further added that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout, but when asked for an effort on straightening was disappointing in its finishing effort. Apprentice Jones further added that in her opinion may not have handled the soft going and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer Mr M. Currie stated he was surprised to see the gelding leading. He expected the gelding to settle in the first half of the field with cover. He further added that MAEVILA RULER will now be spelled. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post race recovery.
KAPSALI – Restrained on jumping to take up a position closer to the rail. Jockey J. Orman could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding the be exhibiting cardiac arrythmia. Trainer B. Dodson was advised that KAPSALI will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG prior to trialing to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again.
AGNELLI – Held up for clear running in the home straight.
FLENSBURG – Knuckled on jumping.
GAMBU (NZ) – Hampered on jumping.
THE DRILLER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contact MAEVILA RULER.
EYELEFTIT – Slow to begin.
Race 4: HAPPY EASTER FROM BRC BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1640 metres
MATOWATAKPE – Trainer J. Bruce advised of a change of tactics in that the gelding will be ridden further forward with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
RED WAVE – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, jockey B. Thompson stated that he had hoped to race closer, however, after jumping away only fairly he was obliged to settle further back, and in his opinion, the horse raced plainly today. He further added that RED WAVE may not have appreciated today’s track conditions and may be also looking for further ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
SIR BARNABUS – Began awkwardly.
SWANSTON – Laid in over the concluding stages.
Race 5: XXXX DRY Class 3 Plate 1640 metres
MAKEDON – Raced wide in the early stages.
MOVEITMOVEIT – Slow to begin. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
DICKENSIAN – Began awkwardly bumping the outside barrier partition. Approaching the 50m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MOVEITMOVEIT which shifted in whilst racing greenly. Apprentice A. Jones was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post race recovery. Stewards will inquire into a report that the gelding had missed work leading into today’s event when recovering from a foot abscess to allow trainer Mr G. Thornton to be present.
INUWASHI (IRE) – Restrained from a wide barrier to take up a position closer to the rail.
MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Jumped awkwardly.
RATIONS – Jumped awkwardly.
TENZING (NZ) – Slow to begin.
SEA RIPPLE – When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor could offer no excuse for the performance of SEA RIPPLE. Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor was advised of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the finish.
DUTCH GOLD – Passing the 200m, was obliged to shift in around the heels of SEA RIPPLE to improve into clear running.
Race 6: LADBROKES ODDDS SURGE QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1050 metres
Following the running of Race 5, the track was upgraded to a Soft (6).
EXO LADY – As Apprentice C. Graham was stood down due to injury, she was replaced by apprentice M. Castle on EXO LADY. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Contacted shortly after the start by GOBLIN’DE QUO.
CHINNY BOOM – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was disappointed for a narrow run between FLAMING CONQUEST and GOBLIN’DE QUO and as a result had to shift in across heels to improve.
BEAST MODE - Began awkwardly.
RUBY CHICKS – Began awkwardly. Had to be restrained off heels shortly thereafter.
GOBLIN' DE QUO – Shortly after the start bumped with EXO LADY on a number of occasions.
LIQUOR – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after contacting a fence enroute to the start, and cleared to start.
Race 7: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1200 metres
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of BEAUX RUMBLE to view the patrol footage. After viewing the concluding stages, jockey S. Collett elected not to proceed with a protest.
BIRRIECART – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight, thereafter disappointed for a run between BEAUX RUMBLE and AMORE VELOCE, and was obliged to shift wider to improve, hampering runners to its outside. Jockey B. Thornton was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.
HIDDEN EYES – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
LIGHT OF BOOM – Jumped inwards at the start.
MOTOMISS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running passing the 100m and obliged to shift in to improve.
SELF INDULGENT – Inconvenienced when BIRRIECART shifted out shortly after entering the home straight.
BEAUX RUMBLE – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages to the inside of BIRRIECART which laid in under pressure.
AMORE VELOCE – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced when BIRRIECART shifted out shortly after entering the home straight.
Race 8: MEKKAFEST 19 AUGUST OPEN QUALITY Handicap 1350 metres
IRISH PLAYBOY – As Apprentice C. Graham was stood down due to injury, she was replaced by jockey N. Beriman.
LAST CHANCE – Bumped at the start. Over raced during the early stages.
WAPITI – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
ROMAN AUREUS – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.
AT WITZ END – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LAST CHANCE.
IRISH SONGS – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
LEGAL ESPRIT – Passing the 600m, attempted to shift out to improve, however was unable to do so when HILAL maintained its position.
Race 9: CASCADE QTIS Class 6 Plate 1350 metres
HOT SPRING GOLD – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running entering the home straight.
ROUSSEAU – Slow into stride.
SLOW HANDS (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages.
ASTERO – Over raced in the middle stages.
HILO – Jumped awkwardly contacting inside barrier partition. Raced wide throughout.
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ROUSSEAU.
NOTHINSWEETABOUTME – A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
TYRESA – Jumped awkwardly.
