GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 5. L. Cassidy (AL PAL’S GAL) 54kg +0.5kg

Race 1: THE STAR Class 6 Handicap 1600 metres

ROUSSEAU – Bumped heavily on jumping. Jockey J. Mcdonald reported that the gelding got too far back in running but in his opinion, raced well. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) – Knuckled on jumping.

ARGYLE LANE – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1500m had to be restrained off heels. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed mild lacerations to the off hind fetlock consistent with being galloped on.

CANASTA (FR) – Declared a late scratching at 10am on veterinary advice after sustaining abrasions to the off hindleg in transport. Trainer J. Bruce was advised that CANASTA will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

DRIVE A DEEL – As jockey J. Collett was delayed in transit, he was replaced by jockey T. Clark.

NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 150m, then raced in restricted room to the inside of MANBEHINDTHEMONEY which laid in.

OLYMPIC CLASS – Began awkwardly. Lost near fore plate in running. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages and was unable to fully tested to the line.

SLOW HANDS (NZ) – On return to scale the gelding was found to have bled from the left nostril. Trainer Mr K. Schweida was advised that prior to racing again, SLOW HANDS would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again. Trainer K. Schweida reported that the gelding will now be retired.

SAUCEY HORSEY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ROUSSEAU and lost ground. Restrained off heels in the early stages. Over raced in the early and middle stages.

MANBEHINDTHEMONEY (GB) – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight until the 100m.

Race 2: STRADBROKE CALCUTTA 8 JUNE Class 3 Plate 1350 metres

BRIGANTINE – Raced wide throughout.

EAGLEMONT – Trainer M. Dunn reported that on saddling the gelding became very fractious when the tongue tie was being fitted, and as such Stewards allowed EAGLEMONT to race without this piece of gear.

HARD REYVA – Began awkwardly.

HATCHET – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

SAFEWORK – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Momentarily inconvenienced when became awkwardly placed on heels of TWYFORD.

SUNFALL – Raced wide throughout.

MIRANN (FR) – Knuckled on jumping. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room over the final 100m and unable to be fully tested to the line.

STARZAM – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until the 100m.

LOVES ME LIKEAROCK (GB) – Jockey A. Mallyon stated that the mare failed to stride out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings. Trainer’s representative Mr M. Eggleston reported that LOVES ME LIKEAROCK will now head for a spell.

MISS KEELER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced in restricted room over the final 100m.

MADAME DU GAST – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

RAPID OUTLAW – Raced wide from the 800m. Trainer Mr L. Kelly was advised that the filly will have a warning placed on her pre race manners after becoming very fractious in the enclosure and when moving out onto the track.

KIKI COCO – Improved onto the heels of the tiring HARD REYVA and shifted in abruptly near the 100m.


Race 3: CITY PROPERTY SERVICES BILL CARTER STAKES 1200 metres

After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft (5).

RUSSIAN ALLIANCE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment, jockey L. Cassidy could offer no explanation for the performance but in his opinion, the filly may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer K. Kemp reported that RUSSIAN ALLIANCE will now head for a spell.

PARTY FOR TWO – Began awkwardly, hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running, then passing the 200m was obliged to alter course after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of the tiring SZABO. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

ABOUNDING – Shifted out on jumping. Raced wide throughout.

MIGHTY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the filly’s performance, jockey J. Orman stated that from the wide barrier he was obliged to settle further back in the field, and the filly then began to over race, and on leaving the 900m proved very difficult to settle before shifting wider near the 800m. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery.

WITHIN REASON – Slow to begin.

SALT LAKE BETTY – Shifted in on jumping and bumped PARTY FOR TWO. Leaving the 1000m, when over racing improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SZABO – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post race recovery.

MAKENA – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly afterwards.

CERTAINLYCAN – Raced wide throughout.


Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS PAM O'NEILL STAKES 1600 metres

DRAGON QUEEN (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.

PRETTY AMAZING – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

BELLATRIX BLACK (NZ) – Approaching the 400m had to be steadied off heels. Leaving the 150m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of PRETTY AMAZING which shifted out marginally and DRAGON QUEEN which also shifted in marginally. Both jockeys J. Childs and N. Rawiller were advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

ZOE'S PROMISE – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.

DZSENIFER - Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 400m.

MEDIA AWARD – Raced wide throughout.

TICK TOCK QUEEN – Passing the 1200m, shifted in and brushed the running rail. Passing the 600m raced in restricted room. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

PRINCESS RHAENYS – As jockey R. Maloney was overweight he was replaced by jockey J. Collett. Jockey R. Maloney was fined $400 under the provisions of AR190(3).
Began awkwardly.

OSMOSE (FR) – Slow to begin. Passing the 1200m, improved onto the heels of TICK TOCK QUEEN and had to be restrained. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.

STREET GOSSIP – Apprentice J. Lloyd reported that the filly travelled well during the event, however failed to let down as expected in the home straight and proved disappointing. Trainer Mr M. Newnham advised Stewards that he was of the opinion that the filly had likely come to the end of its preparation and would now be spelled.


Race 5: IMPRESSU DARBY McCARTHY 1110 metres

SPACEWALK – Began awkwardly. Checked off heels of HELLUVA BARTY leaving the 300m. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice J. Lloyd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that leaving the 300m apprentice Lloyd, rider of HELLUVA BARTY, allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SPACEWALK, which then had to be restrained to avoid the heels of HELLUVA PARTY. Apprentice J. Lloyd’s license to ride in races was suspended for 13 days commencing midnight the 29th of May 2023 until midnight the 11th of June 2023.

RICHON – Shifted inwards on jumping and bumped AL PAL’S GAL.

GOLDEN BOOM – Leaving the 800m, was obliged to be restrained to avoid the heels of FLAMING CONQUEST which shifted in when insufficiently clear and continued to race ungenerously for a short distance thereafter. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey G. Cartwright, rider of FLAMING CONQUEST, had her license to ride in races suspended for 9 days commencing midnight the 24th of May 2023 and ending midnight the 2nd of June 2023.

HELLUVA BARTY – As jockey B. Loy was unable to ride the allocated weight, he was replaced by apprentice J. Lloyd. Jockey B. Loy was fined $400 under the provisions of AR190(3).

LADY LAGUNA – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FLAMING CONQUEST – Shifted inwards on jumping. A post race veterinary examination revealed FLAMING CONQUEST to have sustained a deep laceration to the offside hock consistent with being galloped on. Trainer D. Murphy was advised that the filly will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

AL PAL'S GAL – Jockey L. Cassidy was replaced by T. Marshall as L. Cassidy was overweight. Jockey L. Cassidy was fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3). Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DEB'S ELLIE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure on entering the home straight and passing the 300m became awkwardly placed on the heels of BEZIQUE.

BEZIQUE – Began awkwardly.


Race 6: XXXX CHIEF DE BEERS 1110 metres

SIMPLY FLY – Approaching the 800m, whilst over racing, had to be restrained off the heels of GREYWORM. Raced wide throughout. Jockey R. Maloney, when asked to comment, stated that the gelding raced fiercely throughout.

THE BIG GOODBYE – Inconvenienced and carried wide approaching the 800m.

ZETHUS – Knuckled on jumping and lost ground.

GREYWORM – Inconvenienced and carried wide approaching the 800m. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

LA AMIGO – Commenced to race fiercely leaving the 900m, improved onto heels, shifted wider on the track carrying THE BIG GOODBYE and GREYWORM wider on the track.

MISHANI SNIPER – Had to be resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Began awkwardly.


Race 7: XXXX DOOMBEN CUP 2000 metres

ZAAKI (GB) – A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer A. Neasham reported that ZAAKI will now head for a spell.

NUMERIAN (IRE) – Raced wide during the early stages before striding forward to take up a forward position with cover.

DIAMIL (IRE) – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and taken wider rounding the home turn.

NONCONFORMIST – Jockey J. Childs, when asked to comment on the performance on the gelding, stated that NONCONFORMIST was back in distance from 2400m to the 2000m today and in his opinion, is looking for further. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant abnormalities.

PALMETTO (NZ) – Brushed on entering the home straight and shifted wider by HUETOR who shifted wider to improve.

ATISHU (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages before being restrained to a rearward position closer to the rail. Eased down in the home straight. Jockey N. Rawiller stated that the mare didn’t feel right in her action and he elected not to pressure her over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer’s representative Mr B. Killion was advised that ATISHU must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Due to the poor performance Stewards also advised Mr Killion that the mare must also furnish a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.


Race 8: LADBROKES BRC SPRINT 1350 metres

As jockey B. Thornton had left the course without the permission of Stewards, an inquiry was adjourned into a matter near the 800m.

DARK DESTROYER (NZ) – Bumped on jumping.

CARDINAL GEM –Raced wide throughout.

HOLYFIELD – Shifted outwards on jumping and bumped DARK DESTROYER. Raced wide throughout.

SINAWANN (IRE) – Began awkwardly.

SURF DANCER (IRE) – Co-trainer Mr A Bott, when asked to comment on the improved performance, stated that the gelding may not have handled the trip to Rockhampton and the stable subsequently decided to keep the gelding in Brisbane to aim for this race. He added that SURF DANCER had pleased in its work since and the stable expected a forward showing.

COAL CRUSHER – A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer J. Pride was advised to report back to Stewards anything that may come to light with the gelding’s performance and future racing plans.

DRAGON LEAP – Raced wide throughout.

BACCHANALIA – Became awkward in its action when passing the 150m. Jockey J. Orman reported at scale that the gelding failed to travel and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hindleg. Representative for J. Cumming’s stable, Mr N. Dilmi was advised that BACCHANALIA will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

VINCO – Slow to begin.

EXCELIDA – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 100m and obliged to shift wider to improve.

UCALLEDIT (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight, and obliged to shift in passing the 250m, and was again held up for clear running approaching the 150m. Stewards intend to inquire into the circumstances into that horse having to be restrained passing the 800m after jockey B. Thornton left the course without permission.

CHARMMEBABY (NZ) – Held up for clear running over the final 200m.

LADY OF HONOUR – Restrained passing the 800m.


Race 9: ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS THE ROSES 2000 metres

FIREBURN – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and shifted in to improve.

RENAISSANCE WOMAN (NZ) – Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 300m shifted out to improve contacting REO.

TYRESA – Slow to begin.

NOAH 'N' A DEEL – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and obliged to shift wider.

SAKURA GIRL (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Passing the 1600m had to be restrained off the heels of VENETIAN BLUE. Passing the 1400m was allowed to stride forward to take up a more forward position.

SUPER CHILLED – Raced wide throughout.

MADAME ODETTE – Began awkwardly.

PROSCENIUM ARCH (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

REO – Began very awkwardly. Passing the 1600m was hampered by Maloney which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 300m.

STARLINER – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Raced wide throughout.

YANKEE HUSSEL – Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.

IRISH SALLY – Slow to begin.
