Race 1: MEKKAFEST 19 AUGUST QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1350 metres

This event was delayed approximately 3 minutes to allow WHO ORDERED DAFISH to have its near hind plate refitted on arrival at the barriers.

AUTUMN SONG – Began very awkwardly and bumped by DENOTE shortly after, causing its rider to become unbalanced. Bumped over the concluding stages and was obliged to race in restricted room.

KENSHIN MARU – Slow to begin. Hung out early stages and raced greenly throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight and became awkward over the concluding stages, after making contact with AUTUMN SONG.

PONTYPRIDD – Raced greenly and over raced during the early stages.

SHARP DAZZLER – Leaving the 600m shifted out to improve and had to be steadied when tightened between KENSHIN MARU and FORGETS ME NOT, both of which shifted ground. Tightened for room near the 400m between DENOTE and AUTUMN SONG, which shifted out to improve. Jockey A. Thompson, rider of AUTUMN SONG, was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident. Had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 100m.

WHO ORDERED DAFISH – Cast the near hind plate in the mounting enclosure which was refitted on arrival at the barriers, and the filly cleared to start. Inconvenienced near the 150m when obliged to race in restricted room between TWO OF US and KENSHIN MARU, which shifted out.

DENOTE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1200m, when being restrained to obtain cover, was checked from the heels of WHO ORDERED DAFISH which was also being restrained to obtain cover. Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: CASCADE Maiden Plate 1630 metres

DEAL AN ACE – Approaching the 100m, obliged to alter course in order to secure clear running.

DEFERENTIAL – Raced wide throughout. Stewards questioned jockey B. Thornton as to the tactics adopted in leading today’s event which is in contrast to the gelding’s established racing pattern. Jockey Thornton advised Stewards that from the wide barrier, he was instructed to allow the horse to be comfortable in the early stages and then to make a decision to settle back in the field or to allow the horse to stride forward depending upon how the horse left the barriers. Stewards noted that there was no urgency in jockey Thornton’s riding to establish a forward position and when these tactics were confirmed by stable foreperson M. Sharpe, Stewards took no further action other than to advise Ms Sharpe of her obligations to advise Stewards of any change of tactics.

Cassidy, rider of BULSARA, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for failing to allow sufficient clearance when crossing.

DEEP ROUGE – Proved difficult to load. Trainer’s representative for the B. Lockwood stable, Mr B. Herne was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners. Raced wide throughout.

JAMESONHEART – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
