GENERAL
 
As Jockey R. Maloney was ill and jockey M. Wishart was not riding at today’s meeting, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary.
 
Race 1: MEKKAFEST 19 AUGUST QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
ALL VALOUR– Over raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BARELLO – Began awkwardly.
 
KANAIRD – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  Near the 700m, improved onto the heels of ALL VALOUR and shifted out.
 
LISSARO (NZ) – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISTER SELFIE – Began awkwardly. Had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.
 
PONTYPRIDD – Connections advised that it is the intention for the colt to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Bumped near the 800m.
 
SONNY DAZE – Near the 800m, whilst over racing, shifted out and bumped PONTY PRIDD. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
THE STATEMENT – When asked to comment on the performance jockey J. Orman stated that his mount travelled well throughout the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.   
 
TIGERS ROAR – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 2: 2 CASCADE QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
CHIRRUP – Slow to begin. Bumped on the hindquarters near the 200m.
 
FLYING MAPLE – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
GYPSY WHITE SOCKS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor stated that he was unable to secure a forward racing position closer to the rail and was obliged to race wide throughout which was detrimental to the filly’s performance.
 
HOT PEACH – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Ahrens was advised that the filly would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
 
IT'SALLSAIDANDONE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Co-trainer W Hulbert advised that on return to stable the filly underwent an endoscopic examination which revealed no abnormalities, however it would be his intention to apply a tongue tie and trial the filly prior to racing again.
 
SHE IS ALL MAGIC – Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted out marginally under pressure approaching the 100m.
 
TORQUE ABOUT MAGIC – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
TRAVIATA – Began awkwardly. Near the 200m, shifted out to improve and bumped the hindquarters of CHIRRUP. Raced in restricted room between CHIRRUP and SHE IS ALL MAGIC approaching the 100m. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that the filly had a tendency to lay in which made it difficult for him to avail himself for a run between CHIRRUP and SHE IS ALL MAGIC in the home straight.
 
Race 3: XXXX DRY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
BETTER BE NORDY – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced momentarily.
 
BOOM TORQUE – Improved onto heels at 600m, shifted out abruptly and bumped STREET HUSSY.
 
CHRISTMAS TIME – Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.
 
MARLEE'S ZANDER – Restrained at the start to a position closer to the rails. Raced keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 700m had to be restrained from heels for a number of strides.
 
OUTLAWED – Jockey M. Harley advised at scale that he was unable to secure a forward position in the early stages and for this reason he elected to restrain to take up a midfield position with cover approaching the 800m. Approaching the 600m raced keenly at heels and had to be steadied.
 
STREET HUSSY – Raced wide throughout. Bumped and became unbalanced at the 600m.
 
PUREZZA – Began awkwardly. Jockey A. Mallyon advised Stewards that it wasn’t his intention to lead however after being caught wide in the early stages and with the lack of pace to the inside, he allowed the filly to stride forward to the lead.
 
Race 4: SKY RACING Class 4 Handicap 1110 metres
 
NED'S GULLY – Hampered shortly after the start. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
QUIET RIOT – Began awkwardly.
 
BEPPE – Bumped at the start. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
DEEP ROUGE – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
EXPECTANT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
STAR OF CHAOS – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped BEPPE. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Jockey J. Orman reported that he was obliged to race wide throughout which was detrimental to the mare’s performance.
 
SUTTO'S GAL – Raced wide throughout. Laid out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
AIRSTRIKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Improved onto heels at the 500m and had to be steadied. Obliged to alter course outwards to secure clear running approaching the 200m.
 
Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIP ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 70 Handicap1650 metres
 
TITANIUM – Slow to begin.
 
HOLSTEIN – Slow to begin and then hampered shortly after. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KERMANTIC – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Bumped on the hindquarters near the 250m. Approaching the 200m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied momentarily.
 
ROSOVO – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped VAN NUYS.
 
LOOK A'LIKE – Approaching the 200m, whilst weakening, raced in restricted room, and had to be steadied. Jockey M. Cahill reported that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited with a drop back in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery and to be exhibiting signs of the thumps.
 
PATMOS ISLAND – Began awkwardly. Held up from approaching the home turn until a point leaving the 300m. Bumped with VICTORY BAY near the 250m.
 
VAN NUYS – Bumped on the hindquarters at the start.
 
CASH ME – Connections advised that it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Settled in a better than midfield position with cover.
 
Race 6: LADBROKES RACING CLUB QTIS Class 1 Plate 1200 metres
 
BOODUA ROMANCE – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly after. Leaving the 800m was inconvenienced and carried wider. Raced wide for the majority.
 
DEVIL ENUFF – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
OUR RED PLANET – Held up approaching the home turn. Improved onto heels at the 300m and was then held up until leaving the 200m.
 
STARRY EYES – Near the 700m, whilst racing keenly, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up upon entrance to the home straight. Improved onto heels approaching the 200m and was held up until the 100m.
 
VOLDEMORT – Hampered at the start. Near the 700m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up near the 300m and was obliged to shift inwards to obtain clear running. Jockey M. Harley reported that the gelding had a tendency to change strides a number of times during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HUSS ON FIRST – When asked to comment on the performance apprentice C Graham stated that her instructions were to obtain a forward position with cover, however from the wide barrier and after beginning well, she elected to pressure her mount to lead rather than being caught wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
METER MAID – Bumped shortly after the start. When being restrained leaving the 800m, commenced to race keenly, got its head up and lost ground.
 
FIRE LOVE – Over raced in the early stages whilst being restrained. Raced wide throughout.
 
SAWEETIE – Began awkwardly and bumped with BUIN ROAD.
 
BUIN ROAD – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
MISS HELMUT – Began awkwardly and a short distance later bumped heavily with METER MAID. Leaving the 800m, improved onto the heels of METER MAID and shifted outwards.
 
 
Race 7: SPIRIT OF BOOM AT EUREKA Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
INVINSIBLE TEARS – Raced wide throughout.
 
DARING BELLE – Raced wide throughout.
 
ELVEENA – Near the 400m was severely checked when tightened for room by TRIPLE CITIZEN.
 
ENTERPRISE JEWEL – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 100m, was obliged to shift out and away from the heels of SHALATIME which was directed away from the heels of RED STAR RUBI.
 
TRIPLE CITIZEN – Approaching the 400m, was obliged to check from the heels of NEGATION which shifted in under riding. Apprentice A. Jones the rider of NEGATION pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a), in that she allowed her mount to shift in under riding approaching the 400m when insufficiently clear of TRIPLE CITIZEN, which was tightened for room and obliged to check. ELVEENA and RED STAR RUBI, which were both trailing TRIPLE CITIZEN were obliged to check from heels and SHALATIME was also inconvenienced in this incident. Apprentice Jones’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight the 29th of July and to expire midnight the 10th of August 2023. Eased down by its rider over the concluding stages due to concerns with the horse’s actions. A post-race veterinary examination of TRIPPLE CITIZEN revealed no abnormalities.
 
SHALATIME – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 400m was inconvenienced and shifted wider when TRIPLE CITIZEN was checked by its rider. Approaching the 100m, was obliged to shift out and away from the heels of RED STAR RUBI which shifted out abruptly.
 
DUBAI DEE – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 1000m, had to be steadied from the heels of ANATINI which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice M. Castle the rider of ANATINI was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
RED STAR RUBI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Improved onto heels approaching the 500m and was obliged to steady. Near the 400m, was severely checked from the heels of ELVEENA. Jockey M. McGillivray dropped his offside rein near the 150m before regathering approaching the 100m resulting in the mare improving onto the heels of the tiring DUBAI DEE and having to be shifted out abruptly by jockey McGillivray.
 
NEGATION – Slow to begin. Jockey A. Jones reported that the filly had a tendency to race greenly throughout when racing inside other runners and as a result, failed to run on as expected and proved disappointing.
 
Race 8: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY 9 SEPTEMBER Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 1350 metres
 
GWAN SO (GB) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice C. Graham stated that she wasn’t disappointed in the performance as the gelding was first up and was required to carry a significant weight. Trainers representative Mr T Pollard was not disappointed with todays the performance, stating that he felt that the gelding peaked on its run near the 100m and would take benefit from today’s performance.
 
SERGEANT HULKA – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied from heels approaching the 500m. Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 200m.
 
SCRIPT WRITER – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly after. Approaching the 150m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of BALTRAY and had to be steadied.
 
HYDE – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly after. Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 200m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied from the heels of BALTRAY which was carried in by WHERE YA BEAN.
 
SPACESHIP – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced in restricted room approaching the 200m.
 
RISING STAR – Raced wide throughout.
 
SURIN BEACH – Raced wide throughout.
 
THE RAMPANT – Raced wide throughout.
 
START STRUTTING – Held up rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer K. Kemp stated that the gelding was caught wide at its last start and prior to that at its previous start was unable to secure clear running at a vital stage in the home straight and was not disappointed with its last performances. Trainer Kemp further added that he was confident in an improved performance today with the better barrier draw and low weight.
 
SARSEN – Began awkwardly.
 
WHERE YA BEAN – Raced wide throughout. Shifted in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
BALTRAY – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 200m, had to be steadied from the heels of WHERE YA BEAN which shifted in. Jockey M. Powell the rider of WHERE YA BEAN was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
EPAUVESCENT – Leaving the 200m, momentarily steadied from heels whilst weakening.
