Wheeler advised Stewards that after beginning awkwardly, PRINCESS TENKO failed to muster speed and for this reason he was unable to secure a more forward racing position as anticipated. Apprentice Wheeler further added that he had considered remaining in a three wide position in the early stages, however he was of the opinion that if he had elected to stay in this position, he would have been forced to race three wide throughout, and for this reason he elected to take up a position midfield with cover. Stewards noted apprentice Wheeler’s explanation.
AYAHUASCA – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running entering the home straight until leaving the 100m. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare, particularly his riding over the final 600m, jockey B. Thompson advised that after beginning very awkwardly he was obliged to settle in a position further back than anticipated. He further explained that the mare has a tendency to hang in and at a point leaving the 600m, he was of the opinion that he would have been better served staying to the inside of COSMIC GOSSIP, and availing himself to inside runs in the home straight, however this did not eventuate, and he was held up until the 100m point.
