SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Doomben 19th August 2023 Race 6 – RAINBOW CONNECTION
Trainer M. Dunn advised that the gelding had pulled up well following its disappointing performance and would now be spelled.

Race 1: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY 9 SEPTEMBER CLASS 3 PLATE 1050M

DEVASTATING – Laid out leaving the 900m and had to be steadied from heels. Jockey J. Orman advised Stewards that he felt the gelding was doing its best work over the concluding stages and would appreciate a step up in distance for its next start.

MR TABASCO – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m raced in restricted room to the inside of BEFANA, then shifted in and brushed the running rail and became unbalanced, resulting in the gelding losing ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. At inquiry regarding the reasons for MR TABASCO losing ground at the 800m, apprentice B. Wheeler stated that whilst he was obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of BEFANA, he attributed the incident to the gelding shifting in of its own accord and brushing the running rail which then resulted in MR TABASCO overreacting and losing ground.

CLOVELLY – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 800m commenced to over race and shifted out, contacting the heels of LIQUOR. Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 250m was obliged to alter course to improve.

COMPASSIONATE – Leaving the 600m became awkwardly placed at heels of HARD TO SAY when attempting to shift out to improve. Apprentice M. Castle was advised to allow herself greater racing room when attempting to shift ground. Lost its off hind plate.

LIQUOR – Began awkwardly. From the 600m bumped and taken wider by COMPASSIONATE which shifted out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to the hind legs.

BEFANA – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m raced in restricted room to the inside of LIQUOR which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Approaching the winning post, had to be steadied after improving into the narrow run to the inside of DELYTH.


Race 2: CASCADE BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP 2000M

LINTHORPE LAD – Approaching the winning post on the first occasion became awkwardly placed at the heels of NIKAU SPUR (NZ). Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted out at the 1200m point when the pace was steadied and improved to the lead approaching the 1000m.

FIFTH POSITION (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Had a tendency to lay in during the early stages of the home straight. Disappointed for a run approaching the 100m point between NIKAU SPURR and LINTHORPE LAD.

NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m point.

Race 3: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1350M

CORONA LAD – Began awkwardly. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported the gelding didn’t travel comfortably throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

GAIUS – Apprentice J. Molloy advised Stewards that he felt the gelding was doing its best work over the concluding stages and would appreciate a step up in distance for its next start.

TELEPHONE BOOTH – Approaching the 200m was bumped and became unbalanced.

COOL ENCOUNTER – Slow to begin.

INVINSIBLE TEARS – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until the 150m.

SUTTO'S GAL – Trainer K. Kemp advised Stewards the mare would attempt to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.

AIRSTRIKE – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start by INVINSIBLE TEARS. Held up rounding the home turn.

SMOKIN' TOFF – Over raced approaching the 1000m when being restrained in an attempt to take cover.


Race 4: SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 PLATE 1600M

ASHGROVE – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised that from a wide barrier the gelding was obliged to race further back in the field and was not disappointed in the finishing effort given the way the event was run.

BETTCHA THE CROWN – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Improved onto heels approaching the 100m and was unable to be tested for the remainder of the event. Rider D. Thornton advised that the gelding had a tendency to hang in and proved difficult to ride in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a speedy cut on its off hind pastern.

RED TOP – Over raced in the middle stages. Approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run and was obliged to alter course.

SATAY CHICKEN (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

SMYTZER – Stewards granted permission for the gelding to race without bar plates as part of its advertised gear owing to the gelding pulling a shoe prior to the event which was unable to be re-fitted and subsequently raced in standard plates. The gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide until the 1100m. Bumped on the hind quarters near the 300m and became momentarily unbalanced.

NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – Approaching the winning post improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

SMART CITY – Rider S. Cormack advised that the gelding felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have slow post-race recovery.

RUSSIAN WARRIOR – Over raced in the early stages. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight.

ALL'S FAIR – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 5: XXXX QTIS CLASS 6 PLATE (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE) 1350M

BRIARS KINGDOM – Laid in under pressure approaching the 200m. Leaving the 200m bumped with ROCK AMORE.

ROCK AMORE – Laid in under pressure approaching the 200m before being corrected by its rider. Leaving the 200m was bumped by BRIARS KINGDOM. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

NORTHERN EXPRESS – Slow to begin and bumped shortly after the start.

SHIBLI (GB) – Leaving the 500m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up approaching the 400m. Raced in restricted room approaching the 200m point and was held up until the 100m.

PRIME ASSET – Raced wide early until leaving the 800m.

VIMINELE – Trainer L. Gough was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Shifted in and bumped NORTHERN EXPRESS.

NOTED – Approaching the 200m was carried inwards by ROCK AMORE and became awkward at the heels of PRIME ASSET and had to be steadied. Raced in restricted room until the 100m point.

Race 6: BRC MEMBERSHIP ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1200M

The start of this event was significantly delayed owing to SHAMATON casting its off fore plate on route to the barriers. SHAMATON underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

BIRRIECART – Jockey J. Huxtable advised Stewards the gelding travelled comfortably until placed under pressure leaving the 600m point. He further added he was disappointed in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co trainer M. Hoysted also added he was disappointed in the performance and would advise Stewards of anything that may come to light that had a bearing on the performance of the gelding.

SHAMATON – Jockey J. Orman advised Stewards the gelding didn’t feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

VODKA MARTINI – When being restrained at the 800m point, got its head up and became awkward in its action.

BONCASSIE – Approaching the 1100m was bumped and became unbalanced.

HAMLET VON SNITZEL – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

MAGNUS BELLAGIO – Leaving the 1000m was obliged to steady when awkwardly placed at the heels of BIRRIECART which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey J. Huxtable was advised to show greater care in future when shifting ground.

BROCKY – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Approaching the 150m laid in before being corrected by its rider.

VETTA VELOCITA – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1000m momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed at heels. Approaching the 500m improved onto heels and had to be steadied.


Race 7: LADBROKES MATES MODE QTIS 3YO PLATE 1200M

The start of this event was delayed when TANGO FEVER was declared a late scratching at 3:27PM after refusing to load at the barriers. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested in TANGO FEVER to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

1st place - 7c to win, 11c to place.
2nd place – 5c
3rd place – 9c

Trainer R. Heathcote the filly would be required to trial or jump out to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being permitted to start again.

SPIN DOCTOR – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 250m.

TOP FUN – Contacted barrier petition on jumping.

ZELGARIA – Slow to begin.

SHOT OF WHISKEY (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping. Approaching the 250m shifted out under pressure and bumped THE PLAYER. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey B. Thompson stated when the gelding was placed under pressure in the home straight, it raced greenly and was disappointed with its finishing effort. Co trainer M. Hoysted advised they would consider dropping back in distance and applying blinkers prior to its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

THE PLAYER – Bumped approaching the 250m.

GLASS OF ROSE – Slow to begin. Obliged to shift wider leaving the 250m when awkwardly placed at the heels of SPIN DOCTOR which shifted out under pressure.

TIGER SHARK – Put in an awkward stride in shortly after the start was affected.

Race 8: DRINKWISE OPEN HANDICAP 1200M

SNOWZONE – Raced wide for the majority. Rider A. Mallyon advised he was disappointed in the performance of the gelding particularly when asked for an effort in the home straight. Trainers representative M. Eggleston advised Stewards he would follow up on the gelding’s condition in the following days.

INDISPENSABLE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

STUTTERING – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

GOGOL – Approaching the 900m raced keenly and commenced to over race.

DON'T STOP – Began awkwardly. Apprentice B. Wheeler advised Stewards that after beginning awkwardly, he raced further back in the field than anticipated. He further added that he felt the gelding was one paced in its finishing effort. Trainer P. Nolan (Jnr) advised that the gelding may not have appreciated the quick back up and would freshen the gelding up prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SIR ROCKET – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Approaching the winning post had to be steadied after improving onto heels.

VAINSTREAM – Raced wide throughout

ACROBATIC – Slow to begin. Commenced to over race approaching the 900m and had to be steadied from heels. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post.

IRING – Slow to begin. Jockey M. Hellyer reported his mount over raced in the early stages.


Race 9: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1600M

The start of this event was significantly delayed owing to POINT COUNTERPOINT casting its off fore plate on route to the barriers. POINT COUNTERPOINT underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

STAMPE – Carried inwards passing the 300m.

POINT COUNTERPOINT – Lost an off-fore plate and had to be re-shod prior to the running of this race. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Approaching the 150m point was carried wider by STAMPE resulting in its hind quarters being contacted by RED WAVE.

RED WAVE – Tightened for racing room approaching the 150m and had to be checked from heels. Apprentice J. Molloy, rider of STAMPE subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift out under riding causing POINT COUNTERPOINT which was racing to his outside to be carried wider resulting in RED WAVE being tightened for racing room between POINT COUNTERPOINT and BAANONE (NZ) requiring A. Mallyon the rider of RED WAVE to check to avoid heels. The riding license of Apprentice J. Molloy was suspended for 9 days to commence midnight the 2nd of September and expire midnight 11th of September. Apprentice J. Molloy was advised of his rights to appeal.

BAANONE (NZ) – Slow to begin.

SHOPPING ESPRIT – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

HYPE (IRE) – Raced wide until leaving the 900m. Approaching the 150m was carried wider.

CANADIAN DANCER – Began awkwardly. Over raced whilst leading in the middle stages. Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200m before being corrected by its rider. Rider B. Thompson advised Stewards that the mare proved difficult to settle and over raced whilst leading which had a detrimental effect on its finishing effort. Co Trainer M. Hoysted concurred with the comments of rider B. Thompson and advised Stewards he would monitor the horse’s recovery. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

HOKAHEY – Carried inwards leaving the 300m and was then held up for a short distance.

WOLF MOON – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. Improved onto the heels, shifted in, and was held up until approaching the 100m.

BLACKLOG (NZ) – Shifted in under pressure leaving the 300m.

WITHOUT REVENGE (GB) – Approaching the 150m, inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the heels of HYPE (IRE) which was carried wider at that point.

AQUA ALTA – Held up rounding the home turn. Momentarily carried wider leaving the 200m.
