GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 4. K. Matheson +1kg

Race 1: SPRING CARNIVAL ON SALE NOW Fillies and Mares Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
COTTEE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DRAMMATICA – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GEE BEE ESS – Began awkwardly and bumped SHAPIN POWER. Passing the 200m, had difficulty obtaining clear running when awkwardly placed on heels.  
 
LARAINA – Shifted out on jumping bumping SHAPIN POWER.
 
IRON GRACE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened.  Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
JUMP'N FLY – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SHAPIN POWER – Hampered on jumping. Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened. Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
BEFANA – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 90 Handicap 2200 metres
 
BARTHOLOMEU DIAS (GB) – Began awkwardly.
 
NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 500m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MUBARIZ (GB) – Over raced during the early stages. Jockey D. Thornton commented that the gelding travelled well but was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer’s representative B. Killion reported that it was the stable’s intention to now retire the gelding. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
GALIFIANAKIS (IRE) – Put in an awkward stride shortly after the start.
 
 
Race 3: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1615 metres
 
MONTABOT (FR) – Slow to begin. Passing the 300m had to be restrained after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of CRACK OF DOOM. Laid in under pressure for the majority of the home straight.
 
SHEZA FIRECRACKER – Made the turn into the home straight awkwardly and shifted wider on the track.
 
ANCIENT EGYPT – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J. Orman stated that in his opinion, from the wide alley was disadvantaged from settling at the rear of the field and would be better suited in a more forward position. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MAGIC CONQUEROR – Approaching the 100m, brushed by DARK HARMONY. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey A. Jones was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m.
 
CRACK OF DOOM – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that they will look to obtain a more forward position with blinkers on for the first time. Ridden accordingly. Turning into the home straight, shifted in abruptly becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of RAGING POLE.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying sighs of the thumps.
 
DARK HARMONY – Laid out under pressure approaching the 100m, shifted out brushing MAGIC CONQUEROR.
 
SHEPPEY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MONTABOT.
 
 
Race 4: BRC MEMBERSHIP ON SALE NOW Class 6 Plate 1615 metres
 
STARSPANGLED RODEO – Over raced during the early stages.
 
BE WATER MY FRIEND – Post race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on, and the gelding was treated on course.
 
BULLFINCH (GB) – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey D. Thornton stated that the gelding raced flat today, and in his opinion, may not have backed up from last week.
 
SHIBLI (GB) – Bumped between MENAZZI and BULLFINCH shortly after the start.
 
 
Race 5: XXXX No Metro Wins Handicap 1350 metres
 
ISIS CARMELLA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
ROLL UP – Began awkwardly.
 
MOBSTAR – Stood flat footed and missed the start. Trainer’s representative for the K. Lee’s stable, M. Eggleston was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding for its barrier manners.
 
READY FOR ANYTHING – Jockey B. Thompson reported that it was not his intention to lead but from the wide draw and being trapped wide early he was forced to improve to take up a position outside the leader.
 
TELEPHONE BOOTH – Shifted out on jumping and bumped COOL ENCOUNTER. Raced in restricted room to the inside of ROLL UP between the 1000m and the 900m.  
 
COOL ENCOUNTER – Bumped on jumping.
 
MIDNIGHT RAMBLER – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
Race 6: STRONGER AT AQUIS QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1350 metres
 
IN EVIDENCE – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
SPIN DOCTOR – Jockey J. Huxtable was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying signs of the thumps and to be stepping short in the off foreleg. Co-trainer M. Hoysted was advised that SPIN DOCTOR will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
 
KITRI – Dipped shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Eased down in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trainer M. Nolan was advised KITRI will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG and a barrier trial prior to racing again. Mr Nolan advised Stewards that it was his intention to now spell the filly.
 
CAN'T GETWHATIWANT – Rider A. Jones stated that the gelding may have gotten its tongue over the bit and she recommended to connections to consider adding a tongue tie to the horse’s gear. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a slow post race recovery.
 
SHE MINE – Over raced during the early stages.
 
CRYPTIC SOUND – Over raced during the early stages.
 
MALTALI – Slow to begin and blundered shortly after the start.
 
 
Race 7: BUNDABERG RUM DOOMBEN MILE 1615 metres
 
HAIL MANHATTAN – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after being kicked by the Clerk of the course pony in the mounting enclosure, and was cleared to start.
 
BOLLENTE – Over raced during the middle stages.  
 
WAPITI – Held up for clear running from the 200m and was unable to be fully tested to the line.
 
HOT SPRING GOLD – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
NEVER NO MORE (IRE) – Trainer M. Dunn was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Momentarily inconvenienced after shifting in and contacting HOT SPRING GOLD approaching the finish.
 
HONORABLE SPIRIT – Trainer J. Smerdon was advised that in light of today’s poor performance, HONORABLE SPIRIT’s nomination will be refused at Metropolitan meetings until the gelding’s form improves at provincial meetings.
 
LASTING KISS – Approaching the 100m was obliged to alter course to the outside of MILTARY GAMBLER to improve into clear running. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr S. Lee was advised that LASTING KISS will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
MILITARY GAMBLER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J. Bayliss’s license to ride in races was suspended for eleven (11) days pursuant to AR132(5) in that he used his whip on 17 occasions in totality, commencing at midnight the 18th of September 2023 and ending at midnight the 29th of September 2023. Mr Bayliss was advised of his rights to appeal.
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKES HUB BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1110 metres
 
IMMORAL – Hampered shortly after jumping by TRAMONTO which shifted out and MAYA BAY which shifted in. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight when awkwardly placed on the heels of MAXIMUM VORTEX. Attempted to shift out approaching the 200m to improve but again disappointed for a run and hampered. From that point, attempted to shift to the outside of the heels of THELWELL, and was unable to improve until inside the final 100m  
 
LE MELODY – Raced wide throughout.
 
TRAMONTO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
MAYA BAY – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 9: NOVA 106.9 OPEN 1110 metres
 
SPACEBOY – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that from the wide barrier, will attempt to race in a midfield position with cover if circumstances permit. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
STARVIRGO – Began awkwardly.
 
SIR ROCKET – Held up for clear running entering the home straight until the 250m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SITUATION ROOM – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
YOU'LL BE MIST – Began awkwardly.
 
CHATTY LADY – Slow to begin.
 
NIGHTFIRE – Over raced during the early stages.
