GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following jockey to ride overweight.
Race 1 - ROSEFINCH - James Orman plus 1/2kg.
 
 
Race 1: MINING & ENERGY UNION QUEENSLAND QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes when TOTSPUR required farrier attention on arrival at the barriers.
 
TOTSPUR – On arrival at the barriers the near fore plate was refitted. At the request of rider M Cahill, underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off foreleg and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:10pm. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on TOTSPUR refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st BOOMING LAD – 4c win, 4c place
2nd STORM FORCE TEN – 8c place
3rd ENCODER – 5c place
 
Trainer B Baker was advised HOTSPUR would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
CONQUISTADORES – Jumped in at the start.
 
BOOMING LAD – Rider B Thompson reported the horse settled more forward today from the more favourable barrier.
 
FLYWHEEL – Rounding the home turn improved onto the heels of LEEANNIE and was obliged to shift out.
 
ENCODER – Crowded on jumping between runners. Laid in under pressure in the home straight resulting in its rider having to stop riding and correct on a number of occasions.
 
ROSEFINCH – Jumped out at the start. When asked to comment on the performance rider J Orman stated the horse travelled comfortably during the race however failed to let down when placed under pressure in the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed ROSEFINCH to be steeping short in its action.
 
ROYLYN LASS – Began awkwardly resulting in rider K Wilson-Taylor becoming unbalanced for a short distance. Held up for clear running between the 700m and the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHE'S REALISTIC – After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained to a rearward position with cover.
 
LEEANNIE – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 2: ADSS QTIS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE)    2220 M
 
PERFECT ENCOUNTER – Rider J Molloy reported the horse felt comfortable in its action during the event however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure from the 700m.A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Trainer L Hatch was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
GAMBU – Began awkwardly. caught wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward and race outside the leader from the 1300m.
 
HARBELLE – Commenced to lay in from the 500m and thenraced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight resulting in its rider being obliged to stop riding and correct on a number of occasions.
 
LATELY – Slow to begin.
 
SOOBPURB DANCER – Held up for clear running between the 500m and 250m. Lost off fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 3: CFMEU QLD/NT BRANCH MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
 
GALACTIC LEGEND – Rider B Wheeler reported the horse may be better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
NATIONAL INTEREST – Held up rounding the home turn and early stages of home straight.Checked near the 50 metres between KARAOKE AL which shifted in after being struck with the whip and WHISKY TRAIN which shifted out under pressure. M Du Plessis, rider of WHISKY TRAIN, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
READY AZZ EVA - Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
RUSSIAN SUB – Laid out under pressure over final 150 metres.
 
SLAVA IOLA MYIOLIO – Broke away from attendant in the saddling enclosure prior to moving onto the track. Underwent a veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
WHISKY TRAIN – Jumped out at the start and bumped DANE ROAD. Passing the 600m became awkwardly placed at heels when racing keenly and was then held up for clear running until entering the home straight. Laid out passing the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
 
CASA FAGLIANO – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
KARAOKE AL – Near the 50m shifted in when struck with the whip and bumped NATIONAL INTEREST.
 
DANE ROAD – Jumped in at the start and bumped WHISKEY TRAIN.
 
 
 
Race 4: TURNER FREEMAN LAWYERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (THE SHIRLEY WHITE CUP) 1350 M
 
HEADLOCK – Brushed and became unbalanced rounding the home turn when MAID TO FIT shifted out to improve.Entering the home straight taken wider on the track when WISH I HAD shifted out to improve, as a result bumped with FAIRWAY CHOICE, shifted in, and became awkwardly placed on the heels of WISH I HAD. Continued to lay in under pressure in the home straight and near the 100m obliged to steady from the heels of JACKSON ON TIME. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. 
 
NEOCLASSICISM – B Spriggs, rider of 4th placegetter NEOCLASSICISM, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
 
JACKSON ON TIME – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of LI’L WONDER which shifted in when not fully clear. CJ Graham, rider of LI’L WONDER, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
FAIRWAY CHOICE – Slow to begin.
 
WISH I HAD – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position with cover.
 
 
Race 5: BERT / CIP CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1350 M
 
PRIME ASSET – Jumped out at the start and bumped BYRON EYES. Laid out rounding the home turn and in the home straight when placed under pressure. Near the 150m steadied from the heels of CALM SEEKER which laid in under pressure. M Wishart, rider of CALM SEEKER, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
RED TOP – Laid in under pressure over final 100m.
 
CELESTIAL SOL – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
ROSE OF DUPORTH – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
BYRON EYES – Bumped at the start. Rider S Collett report the horse felt awkward in its action on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CALM SEEKER – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 6: QUEENSLAND UNIONS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
DAYTONA – Raced three wide without cover throughout the event.
 
 
Race 7: ELECTRICAL TRADES UNION QLD & NT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1650 M
 
FIVE CROWNS – Slow to begin. Checkedpassing the 800m when RISING PACIFIC shifted out after improving onto heels.
 
SUPER GORGEOUS – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 1000m.
 
SUTTO'S GAL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer K Kemp was advised the horse would be stood down from racing under AR79(4) for 3 months and must also gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to its next race start. 
 
RISING PACIFIC – Steadied from heels near the 1200m when the pace of the race eased. When over-racing near the 800m steadied from heels and shifted out. Held up for clear running between the 500m until a point passing the 200m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted near the 300m when electing to shift out rather than maintain a position closer to the inside, rider J Orman explained after being held up for the majority of the event when racing on the fence, he elected to shift out approaching the 300m as he was of the belief RISING PACIFIC is better suited when racing to the outside of runners, adding that he was also of the opinion the inside section of track was inferior to the outside. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
TEXAS STORM – Raced three wide without cover throughout the event.
 
RUSSIAN WARRIOR – Momentarily steadied from the heels of SUTTO’S GAL near the 1500m. Held up approaching the home turn. Laid in under pressure over final 300m.
 
SPIELE – Inconvenienced passing the 800m when RISING PACIFIC shifted out after improving onto heels. Raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.Rounding the home turn improved onto the heels of the tiring NAUGHTY HARRY before shifting in to secure clear running near the 250m and in doing so bumped SUTTO’S GAL.
 
NAUGHTY HARRY – Caught wide in the early stages.
 
MELANIN – Dislodged on pulling up. Rider K Wilson-Taylor was examined by QAS staff and cleared of any injury.
