STEWARDS REPORT BRISBANE RACING CLUB DOOMBEN – WEDNESDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – 8m entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – G GooldStewards – P Zimmermann, K Lemay-Robbins, J Mitchell, O LeggClerk of Scales – J RobinsonJudge – R Thomas, A Redding, M MawhinneyVeterinarian – Dr S Flynn, Dr C Bowden-BettsSwab Attendants – K Kilpatrick, L ChaplinStarter – H Anderson, S Lister, B Richardson GENERAL As B Thornton was not riding for acceptable reasons, Stewards permitted M Rodd as the replacement rider in race 1 for TARANAKI. Race 1: SKY RACING Maiden Plate 1650 metres FIT AND PROPER – Over raced in the early stages of the event. Leaving the 100m was obliged to momentarily steady from the heels of PRETTY LITTLE LIAR which was carried in by MANNERHEIM. J Orman rider of MANNERHEIM was advised to exercise greater care. PAIRING – Laid in and away from A CERTAIN MAYBE approaching the 250m and bumped MANNERHEIM. MANNERHEIM – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure over the final 150m. TARANAKI (NZ) – Raced greenly in the home straight under pressure. BEAM ME UP – Slow to begin. GLENISLA – Began awkwardly. Commenced to give ground from the 500m and was eased down in the home straight by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying clinical signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainers representative B Killion was advised that a veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG report would be required along with a satisfactory official trial prior to the mare being permitted to race again. PUCCINI DREAM (NZ) – Restrained from a wide barrier to a rearward position. Trainer B Gray advised Stewards that he was confident the mare would perform well today with the step up in distance, he further added that PUCCINI DREAM (NZ) had performed well at its previous two starts, only beaten small margins, and had also derived fitness benefit from those performances. A CERTAIN MAYBE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PRETTY LITTLE LIAR – Over raced in the early stages. Leaving the 100m momentarily became awkward at the heels of MANNERHEIM which laid in under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have slow post-race recovery. Race 2: ROAD TO MAGIC MILLIONS ON SALE NOW QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres BEAULINE – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained. Continued to over race in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout. EPIC FLASH – Slow to begin. Approaching the 500m had to be steadied after improving into narrow racing room to the inside of PRESS LINK (NZ). IMPENDOR – Raced wide throughout. Rider R Maloney dropped his whip at the 50m. LION'S PRIDE – Bumped on jumping. Leaving the 150m shifted out under pressure before being corrected by its rider. PRESS LINK (NZ) – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped LION’S PRIDE. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Leaving the 200m when shifting out to improve bumped MARGOT’S BULLSEYE. BETATHANEVA – Slow to begin and was hampered and lost ground. Approaching the 100m improved onto the heels of BEAULINE and was then held up until leaving the 50m. HINATA – Tightened for racing room approaching the 800m when SUNSHINE HIGHWAY shifted in momentarily when over racing resulting in the filly contacting the running rail and becoming unbalanced and losing ground. Leaving the 400m commenced to lay out and a short distance later had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of PRESS LINK (NZ) when that runner shifted in marginally. Rider M Rodd was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MARGOT'S BULLSEYE – Bumped leaving the 200m by PRESS LINK (NZ). Approaching the 100m shifted out and away from PRESS LINK(NZ) and became awkwardly placed at the heels of SUNSHINE HIGHWAY and had to be steadied. Jockey B Thompson reported at scale that the filly travelled well throughout however when placed under pressure proved disappointing. B Thompson also stated he was of the opinion MARGOT’S BULLSEYE may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainers representative for R Heathcote advised MARGOT’S BULLSEYE would now be going for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SUNSHINE HIGHWAY – Shifted in on jumping and bumped LION’S PRIDE. Over raced in the early stages. When over racing approaching the 800m, shifted in and away from MARGOT’S BULLSEYE. Race 3: BRC MEMBERSHIP QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200 metres BEAUTANTES – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. EXPLOSIVE DRAGON – Began awkwardly and lost ground. AKEMI – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Made the home turn awkwardly. Rider M Du Plessis reported his mount made the home turn awkwardly and was awkward in its action over the concluding stages and in his opinion the filly may have choked off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a slow post-race recovery and minor abrasions on its hind legs. BUBBLES 'N' SPEAK – Shifted out on jumping. CERTAINLYCAN – Raced wide early before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 700m. VIDEO VIXEN – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Race 4: CASCADE Class 2 Handicap (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE) 1650 metres BURNT BY BERNIE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the home turn, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of PORKY which laid in. Near the 200m, was obliged to steady away from the heels of HOUSTON ROCKET which shifted out. Jockey D Thornton was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. NEVER GIVE UP – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Shortly after the start shifted out and away from PRIVATE BANKER. Approaching the 100m, was taken in by DARK CHILL before becoming awkward at that’s runners’ heels and shifting wider to obtain clear running. Jockey B Thompson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. PRIVATE BANKER – Laid out shortly after the start. Shifted in and brushed the running rail at the 1200m. Shifted out leaving the 150m before being corrected by its rider and shifted in under pressure leaving the 100m. Had its hind legs contacted by another runner approaching the winning post, resulting in the gelding becoming unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have abrasions to its hind legs, consistent with being galloped on. Jockey J Lloyd was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being 1 more than permitted. HOUSTON ROCKET – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after. Laid out approaching the home turn. Improved onto heels approaching the 200m and shifted out before being held up again at heels. PORKY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for majority. Commenced to over race near the 1350m before being allowed to stride forward by its rider and reach a position outside the leader near the 700m. Lost near hind plate. DARK CHILL – Hampered on jumping and lost ground. HAPPISBURGH – Began awkwardly. Over raced when being restrained in the early stages to secure a position closer to the rail. Held up rounding the home turn approaching the 100m, attempted to secure clear running to the inside of PRIVATE BANEKR however was disappointed when that runner shifted in under pressure resulting in HAPPISBURGH having to be checked and contacting the hind legs of PRIVATE BANKER. STAR CHANCE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Near the 1400m commenced to over race, momentarily shifting wider. Race 5: XXXX GOLD Maiden Handicap 1110 metres The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes owing to TAKING FLIGHT needing to be re-saddled at the barriers. DRIALLE – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels approaching the 600m and had to be steadied. Approaching the 150m, was placed in restricted room and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of TAKING FLIGHT when both TAKING FLIGHT and ROCK LOBSTER shifted ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice C Wadell rider of TAKING FLIGHT was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for permitting her mount to shift out under riding which initiated contact to DRIALLE. Rider D Smith was also reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for failing to prevent his mount from shifting in which in the opinion of Stewards, contributed to DRIALLE being placed in further restricted room after being bumped TAKING FLIGHT. TAKING FLIGHT – Leaving the 200m, shifted out under pressure and bumped heavily on the hind quarters by DRIALLE and became unbalanced. BAD FOREST – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly before being corrected by its rider. Over raced in the early and middle stages. LENNIC – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly when placed under pressure over the final 150m. Apprentice B Wheeler reported this mount raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. HEAVENWOOD – Commenced to over race leaving the 700m and had to be steadied from heels approaching the 650m. ROSE NOIR – Laid out rounding the home turn. Shifted out under pressure leaving the 300m. BRIGHT BLONDE – Leaving the 600m had to be steadied after improving into restricted room to the inside of HEAVENWOOD. ALABAMA GOLD – Raced wide throughout. Steadied away from the heels of ROSE NOIR when that runner shifted out. Jockey A Jones was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. GEMMAYZE (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in its near foreleg. Trainer S Cole was advised GEMMAYZE (NZ) would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing. Race 6: LADBROKES OWNERS INCENTIVE SCHEME BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (4YO ONLY QTIS 1350 metres SCICONIC – Declared a late scratching at 12:24pm on veterinary advice. Trainer B Smith was advised SCICONIC would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming. ACROPHOBIC – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post. TOO HARD TO REFUSE – Shifted in under pressure approaching the winning post, tightening inside runners. Apprentice B Wheeler was advised to stop and straighten his mounts earlier than he did on this occasion. EVOCATOR – Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post. COMMANDMENT (IRE) – Leaving the 200m became awkwardly placed at heels and had to be steadied. Rider A Mallyon advised that the mare was disappointing in its finishing effort however could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable in the subsequent days regarding the condition of the mare. CASROCK – Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post. Race 7: RUSSIAN CAMELOT 1ST CROP YEARLINGS SELLING 2024 @WIDDENSTUD C,G&E Clas 1200 metres JOHN RAMBO – Slow to begin. Raced keenly passing the 700m. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 250m. A LOT OF BOOTY – Laid out slightly approaching the 500m. Bumped passing the 100m when JOHN RAMBO shifted out. READY AZZ EVA – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. MARTEDI – Raced wide throughout. SUPER ZAMBONI – Raced keenly in the early stages. Eased momentarily when placed in restricted room approaching the 500m. Jockey D Smith reported his mount over raced and never travelled comfortably throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be making an upper respiratory noise. Trainer M Taylor was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing again. Race 8: BRC ASCOT SUNSETS SERIES Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres VEANDECHANCE – Approaching the 250m was held up for a short distance before shifting out to improve. SATASHI – Shifted in on jumping. Over raced in the early stages. Had to be restrained from heels for several strides between the 700m and 600m. SET TO SHINE – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 100m laid in and away from SNOW BOUM becoming awkward at heels and had to be steadied. COURT WHISPERS – Approaching the 700m raced keenly and had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn. DEEP CLEAN – Slow to begin. HELIKEDEMPRETTY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly at heels approaching the 800m and had to be steadied. Had to be restrained from heels for several strides between the 700m and 600m. REPHRASE – Held up rounding the home turn. ZORAYDAH (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn and continued to lay out in the home straight. Rider B Thompson advised that the mare travelled well throughout until placed under pressure in the home turn when it then commenced to lay out and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SNOW BOUM – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure approaching the 100m. KWIK AZ HELL – Shifted out under pressure over the final 150m.
