SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
STRAIGHT CHARGE – Co-trainer Mr A. Bott advised Stewards that STRAIGHT CHARGE will not take his place in the Magic Millions 2YO race field. The colt has an elevated temperature that has required treatment.
Trainer R. Heathcote advised Stewards that DRIVE A DEEL that following its previous start, the mare had developed a mild eye complaint which was subsequently treated, and this may have had some bearing on its disappointing performance at Eagle Farm on the 16th of December.
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 9. M. Harley +0.5kg
Race 10. A. Mallyon +0.5kg

Following the running of Race 1 rider B. Thornton was examined by the club doctor and deemed unfit to continue riding. B. Thornton was advised he would required a medical clearance prior to riding again.
Race 1: PEACHESTER LODGE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1110 Metres
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, J. Orman, rider of third placegetter BOOM TORQUE lodged a protest alleging interference in the home straight against first placegetter, INASEC, ridden by apprentice B. Wheeler. After considering the evidence from all parties and viewing the race footage, Stewards determined that INASEC did shift in approaching the 150m taking EN POINTE inwards causing BOOM TORQUE to taken across the heels of JEMELDI and resulting in rider J. Orman having to check the gelding. Stewards however could not be comfortably satisfied that if this incident had not occurred that BOOM TORQUE would have finished in front of INASEC and subsequently dismissed the objection before then declaring correct weight on the judge’s placings.
JEMELDI – Approaching the 700m, whilst over racing, had to be restrained when racing in restricted room to the inside of WIN BURN. Apprentice J. Molloy, rider of WIN BURN, was advised to exercise greater care.
BOOM TORQUE – Near the 150m was carried inwards by EN POINTE when that runner was taken inwards by INASEC resulting in BOOM TORQUE having to be checked from the heels of JEMELDI. Apprentice B. Wheeler the rider of INASEC subsequently pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in approaching the 150m causing EN POINTE to be taken inwards, causing BOOM TORQUE to be carried in across the heels of JEMELDI and having to be checked to avoid that runners’ heels. The licence of apprentice B. Wheeler to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days commencing midnight 11/01/2024 up to and including midnight the 23/01/2024. Apprentice Wheeler was advised of right of appeal. Approaching the winning post was obliged to shift inwards to secure clear running.
INASEC – Over raced during the early stages when being restrained to a position with cover. Laid in under pressure approaching the 150m.
TANKER – Checked from the heels of BOOM TORQUE leaving the 150m.
REDZOUST – Began awkwardly.
EN POINTE – Bumped rounding the home turn when JEMELDI shifted out to improve. Taken inwards and tightened for racing room by INASEC approaching the 150m.
FUMIKO – Raced wide throughout.
NICCI DE ROSA – Raced wide throughout. Brushed at the 300m.
Race 2: ANDERS 1ST YEARLINGS ON OFFER 2024 WIDDEN.COM QTIS 2YO HANDICAP 1200 Metres
WOLFGANG – Shifted in abruptly at the start causing interference to MAGIC MADGE. Co-trainer L. Kennewell was advised that a warning would be placed on the colt’s barrier manners.
DEFIANT BOOM – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped VALLEY OF OWLS.
MISHANI HERCULES – Approaching the 300m, had to be momentarily steadied when became awkwardly placed at the heels of WOLFGANG. Rider of WOLFGANG, B. Shinn was advised to exercise greater care. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SHEZA CHIQUITITA – Bumped shortly after the start and became momentarily unbalanced. Raced greenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
SPIRITED – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
MAGIC MADGE – Severely checked shortly after the start when taken inwards by WOLFGANG, resulting in the filly contacting the running rail and losing ground.
VALLEY OF OWLS – Hampered on jumping. Passing the 200m, momentarily became awkward at the heels of SHEZA CHIQUITITA which shifted in. Jockey K. Yoshida, rider of SHEZA CHIQUITATA was advised to stop and straighten his mounts when they commence to shift ground.
Race 3: LADBROKES BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1615 Metres
AUSSIE NUGGET (IRE) – Laid out in the early stages, and approaching the 1500m laid out and became awkwardly placed at the heels of MOB BUSTER. Rider B. Thompson reported at scale that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying an upper respiratory noise. Trainer’s representative reported that AUSSIE NUGGET underwent endoscopic examination upon return to the stable which revealed no abnormalities and connections will now consider the application of a tongue tie.
EAGLEMONT (IRE) – Knuckled on jumping.
BEAUFORT PARK – Slow to begin.
RITANI (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.
DRIVE A DEEL – Began awkwardly.
MOB BUSTER – As jockey B. Thornton was stood down by the club Doctor, he was replaced by jockey M. Rodd.
Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS BENCHMARK 90 HANDICAP 1050 Metres
MISHANI SNIPER – Raced wide throughout. Laid in approaching the 500m. Raced in restricted room approaching the 300m.
ORBISYN – Due to transport difficulties jockey P. Hamblin was replaced by jockey B. Thompson. When being eased down following the completion of the event, faltered in its action and fell near the course proper crossing. A veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a catastrophic fracture to the sesamoids of the near fore fetlock and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Postmortem swab samples were taken for analysis. Rider B. Thompson was unharmed when being dislodged from the gelding and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
SITUATION ROOM – Had difficulty obtaining clear running turning into the home straight. Passing the 300m, shifted out to improve and in doing so contacted MR GALAZI.
HARDWARE LANE – Held up on heels approaching the 300m and was obliged to shift in approaching the 250m to secure clear running.
PERSEIDS – Declared a late scratching at 11am due to transport difficulties.
GLORIOUS RUBY – Raced in restricted room near the 500m.
EMPEROR – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after jumping. Laid out rounding the home turn.
MR GALAZI – Shifted out on jumping bumping EMPEROR. Hampered shortly after straightening by SITUATION ROOM which shifted out to improve. Laid out under pressure in the straight. Shifted out approaching the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
Following the running this event, Stewards inspected the track near the course proper crossing and found no issues with the track surface and deemed the track safe for racing.
Following the running of Race 4 the track was downgraded to a Soft (6).
Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIP PLUS BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1350 Metres
After being significantly delayed due to transport difficulties, stewards declared LE HEROS a late scratching at 2.16pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets on LE HEROS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO 1c win, 1c place
2nd BETTCHA THE CROWN 4c place
3rd CENTRESTONE 2c place
COUNT DA BEANS – Raced wide throughout. Over raced during the middle stages. Passing the 800m, attempted to shift in to obtain cover and in doing so bumped PACIFIC ATLANTIC.
MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
PETUNIA – Rider C. Williams reported that the mare did not handle the prevailing track conditions.
CENTRESTONE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
JUST A JEDI – Rider M. Rodd reported that the gelding did not handle the prevailing track conditions.
PACIFIC ATLANTIC – Bumped on a number of occasions passing the 800m. Rider B. Shinn reported that the gelding did not handle the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
SO COUNTRY (NZ) – Connections advised of a change of tactics – to be ridden further back in the field with cover if circumstances permit. Settled in a midfield position with cover.
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS SHOOT OUT 2020 Metres
GREAT HOUSE (IRE) – Slow to begin.
LOVE TAP – Momentarily raced in restricted room approaching the 1700m and commenced to over race when being restrained. Approaching the 150m had to be checked from the heels of ARTFUL GIRL when that runner clipped heels and lost ground.
QUALITY TIME (GER) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
ARTFUL GIRL – Passing the 200m raced in restricted room between RED WAVE and QUALITY TIME which shifted out and away slightly from DUNE FORTY FIVE resulting ARTFUL GIRL then shifting out, becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of RED WAVE and clipping that runner’s heels.
PRINCESS RHAENYS – Jockey B. Thompson reported that it was not his intention to settle in a forward position however after beginning well and being caught wide in the early stages, he elected to take up a forward position with cover.
RED WAVE – Over raced during the early stages.
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS VO ROGUE PLATE 1350 Metres
CIFRADO – Raced keenly at heels near the 800m. Improved onto heels approaching the home turn and to be steadied. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and obliged to shift wider to improve.
SHOW ME MERCY – Raced keenly at heels near the 800m. Jockey M. Rodd reported that the gelding may not have handle the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed poor post-race recovery and displaying clinical signs of heat stress.
DEEP RESPECT – Passing the 800m became awkwardly placed on the heels of NOBLE STYLE which laid in before being corrected by its rider.
CONEY ISLAND BABY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped YOU’LL NEVER GUESS. Over raced during the middle stages and approaching the 800m became awkward in its action.
RINGER'S REWARD – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
YOU'LL NEVER GUESS – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 1100m, had to be checked when racing in restricted room to the inside of NOBLE STYLE. Jockey E. Chaves, rider of NOBLE STYLE, pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for shifting in when insufficiently clear of YOU’LL NEVER GUESS. Jockey Chave’s license to ride in races was suspended for 9 days commencing midnight the 30th of December 2023 and ending at midnight the 8th of January 2024. Jockey Chaves was advised of his right of appeal.
BLACK MINTO – Due to transport difficulties, jockey L. Tarrant was replaced by apprentice B. Wheeler.
NOBLE STYLE – Raced wide throughout.
Race 8: MAGIC MILLIONS NUDGEE STAKES 1200 Metres
COMRADE ROSA – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Obliged to alter course approaching the 300m, and had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 150m. Rider R. Maloney advised Stewards that he had given consideration to avail himself of an inside run on entering the home straight to the inside of ESSONNE however that runner commenced to shift in and for this reason, he elected to come to the outside of that runners’ heels as he felt that ESSONNE would shift closer to the rail and he would not be able to obtain clear running to the inside. He further added he was unable to fully test his mount until the final 100m of which the mare finished well.
PARISAL – Raced wide throughout. Rider B. Shinn advised stewards that the mare travelled well throughout however peaked on it’s run at the 100m and would derive benefit from today’s performance.
EXTREMIST – Dolan – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
LADY LAGUNA – Schiller – Held up rounding the home turn before shifting inwards leaving the 300m to secure clear running.
BETTER GET SET – Thompson – Raced keenly when being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages. Leaving the 300m carried wider by CHINNY BOOM which shifted out to improve.
ESSONNE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over raced during the middle stages.
BAROSSA ROSA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
KIR ROYALE – Raced keenly at heels leaving the 700m.
ENTERPRISE POMME – As B. Thornton was stood down by the club Doctor, he was replaced by apprentice C. Graham. Over raced during the early stages.
CHINNY BOOM – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve. Leaving the 300m shifted out to improve leaving the 300m.
JAYANTHI – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection behind the barriers after being kicked by another runner and cleared to start.
AUTHENTIC JEWEL – Raced wide throughout. Passing the 300m, whilst weakening, was momentarily inconvenienced by BETTER GET SET which was carried out by CHINNY BOOM which shifted out to improve.
MISHANI ROYALE – Raced wide throughout.
Race 9: MAGIC MILLIONS THE BUFFERING 1350 Metres
IRISH SONGS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running approaching the 250m and obliged to shift out.
TAMERLANE – Lost the off fore plate in running.
THE BIG GOODBYE – Approaching the 50m brushed by ZOUSHACK.
ELEVEN ELEVEN – Raced wide throughout.
THE FACE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D. Vandyke reported that THE FACE will now go for a spell.
ZOUSHACK – Began awkwardly and bumped ALCYONE. Raced wide throughout. Laid in rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SHOPPING ESPRIT – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ALCYONE – Bumped on jumping. Obliged to shift inwards near the 100m when improving onto the heels of the tiring THE FACE. Jockey A. Jones was reminded of her obligations when using the whip when out of contention.
CHATTY LADY – Slow to begin.
STARTANTES – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
SUNFALL – Laid out rounding the home turn.
Race 10: SEASON GREETINGS FROM BRC CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
RAINBOW CONNECTION – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 900m, bumped heavily with VIMENELE and became severely unbalanced.
SIR WARWICK – Began awkwardly, shifted out contacting VIMENELE. Approaching the 800m had to be checked to avoid the heels of SELF INDULGENT who was carried in by DR WHY NOT, ridden by apprentice M. Potgieter, which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Apprentice M. Potgieter pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) and his license to ride in races was suspended for 11 days commencing at midnight the 6th of January 2024 until midnight the 17th of January 2024. Apprentice Potgieter was advised of his right of appeal. Approaching the 150m became momentarily awkward at the heels of NAVAS TWO and had to shift inwards to secure clear running.
HATCHET – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room approaching the 800m.
NAVAS TWO – Disappointed for a run leaving the 150m. When questioned regarding his riding in the home straight, jockey B. Shinn advised Stewards that he elected to shift to the middle of the track in an attempt to follow eventual winner HATCHET however at a point approaching the 150m he was disappointed for a run due to CRAZY TRAIN gradually shifting outwards, and he was then obliged to shift inwards at that point to secure clear running. Jockey Shinn further added that in hindsight it may have been a better option to have remained racing to the inside of runners in earlier in the home straight as opposed to manoeuvring to the middle of the track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DR WHY NOT – Trainer Mr L. Gough was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Bumped after the start. Raced wide throughout.
GOLDEN POINT – Carried in over the final 50m. Apprentice B. Wheeler, rider of VIMENELE, was advised to stop and straighten his mounts when shifting ground.
SELF INDULGENT – Bumped after the start. Raced in restricted room approaching the 800m. Leaving the 200m, momentarily eased when placed in restricted room. rider C. Williams
Advised stewards that after receiving tightening approaching the 800m, the mare failed to travel comfortably and was disappointing in its finishing effort. Stewards will follow up the trainer T. Gollan regarding the condition of SELF INDULGENT.
VIMINELE – Bumped leaving the 900m. A short distance later was severely checked from the heels of SIR WARWICK when that runner was checked and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Shifted in over the final 50m before being corrected by its rider.
TREPORTI – Slow to begin.
IRING – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1150m when attempting to be corrected by its rider, laid in and clipped the heels of GOLDEN POINT and blundered badly.
