GENERAL
As Apprentice B. Wheeler was unavailable, he was replaced as per the Stewards summary.
Prior to the running of race 1, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
Race 1: GIRLS DAY OUT ON SALE NOW COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
HOT SUMMER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
MALOTRU – Began awkwardly.
MINTO'S POWER – Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 200m.
QUOTHQUAN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor abrasions to the off-hindleg and was treated on course.
TORRE EGGER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Hung out for the majority of the race. Jockey R. Dolan could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding, which weakened from the 150m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
ZINOTAR (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 2: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
ATLANTIC LACE – Slow to begin.
MORE LOVE – Raced wide from the 700m.
TO WISH – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Passing the 200m, shifted to the outside of ELLIBABY, which shifted out slightly. Carried out slightly by ELLIBABY approaching the winning post.
ADDITION (NZ) – Inconvenienced leaving the 200m when ASHILLA rolled out.
ASSEMBLE – Began awkwardly.
ELLIBABY – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the winning post, shifted out slightly, carrying TO WISH out slightly.
SKILL TESTER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer D. Vandyke, represented by Mr Shaun Gray, was fined $200 pursuant to AR106(1) for presenting the filly to the enclosure without a surcingle, with which jockey R. Dolan had weighed out with.
OAKVALE LASS – Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1650 M
FLYWHEEL – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 1000m, steadied when close to the heels of ELECTRIC TIGRESS. Shifted out leaving the 900m and went forward to take up the lead passing the 800m.
SCOTTISH LAIRD – Bumped on jumping. Hung out approaching the first turn, carrying SHARP DAZZLER wide. Then continued to hang out and race wide until approaching the home turn. Co-Trainer M. Hoysted was advised the gelding would be required to perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official trial prior to next racing.
SHARP DAZZLER – Carried wider near the 1300m. When the pace of the race slackened near the 1000m, improved to the inside of CYPHER PRINCE, which was taken in by FLYWHEEL, and checked.
YEAH COPY – As apprentice J. Franklin was unable to fulfil his riding engagement, he was replaced by apprentice J. Molloy. Apprentice J. Franklin was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Began awkwardly.
AUTORA – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SCOTTISH LAIRD. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 1000m, checked off the heels of FLYWHEEL.
CYPHER PRINCE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 4: CASCADE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1110 M
FUKUBANA – Slow to begin.
TIKKA READY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
AIRSTRIKE – Near the 50m, dropped the whip.
THE LIONS' GATE – Change of tactics; ride with cover. Settled at the rear.
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) – Jockey R. Maloney reported the gelding would take benefit from today’s first up run.
SHAPIN POWER – Bumped on jumping.
DULY ELECTED – Shifted out on jumping and bumped SHAPIN POWER.
Race 5: SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1050 M
RUSHEEN – Laid in for the majority.
FUMIKO – Slow to begin.
Race 6: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1650 M
A BIG CHANCE – Slow to begin.
SECRETLY BETTER – Jockey J. Orman reported the gelding, which weakened from the 100m, failed to run out a strong 1600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
GRACIE BLUE – Slow to begin.
SMOOTH TORQUE – From the 600m, when attempting to shift out, bumped with DUCHESS BREE on a number of occasions.
DUCHESS BREE – Raced wide for the majority. From the 600m, was bumped on a number of occasions.
ZATTASTAR – Approaching the 800m, contacted the rail when racing tight to the inside of THUNDER MANIA, which was laying in. Held up rounding the home turn.
SERENADE THE CAT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
Race 7: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1350 M
ADONISEA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
CRAZY BRAVE – On entering the home straight, when attempting to shift out, bumped NEGATION.
HILL BILLY FLYER – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
TAREX (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
EXTESSIVE – Held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
SELLING SUNSET – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Apprentice C. Waddell was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
SISTA ELENORE – Raced wide throughout.
ROCONONO – Change of tactics; intention to ride closer to the speed. Settled off the leader.
KOBENHAVN – Whilst weakening near the 200m, steadied when tightened between SELLING SUNSET and NEGATION, when being taken out by CRAZY BRAVE (apprentice J. Franklin), was then brushed by that gelding and shifted out slightly. In all the circumstances, apprentice J. Franklin was severely reprimanded. Jockey J. Orman reported his mount raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
NEGATION – On entering the home straight, bumped and became unbalanced behind when CRAZY BRAVE attempted to shift out.
