GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 4: 15 SMOOTH TORQUE – R. Maloney + 0.5kg (56kg)
 
Race 1: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP       1110 M
 
AIKAU (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
MARSEILLE – Began awkwardly.
 
MISS BUSSLINGER – Passing the 800m after the pace of the race slackened, shifted to a three wide position and raced wide for the remainder. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
EXCEEDAQA – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
 
MISHANI BURN – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and was slow into stride. Approaching the 600m, had to be restrained after improving onto heels. Trainer L. Ross was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for standing flat footed in the gates.
 
Race 2: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP - WEIGHTS RAISED 0.5KG         1200 M
 
MISHANI GANGSTER – Held up for clear running upon entering the home straight. Attempted to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so between WATCHGUARD and SHADOWEN and as a result was buffeted on a number of occasions and had to be restrained passing the 250m and checked off the heels of SHADOWEN.
 
FUKUBANA – Hampered on jumping.
 
MORE THAN A STAR – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
SHADOWEN – Began awkwardly. On entering the home straight, was hampered and carried wider by MISHANI GANGSTER which shifted out in an attempt to improve into a run where there was insufficient room to do so. Apprentice T. Fenlon rider of MISHANI GANGSTER was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.  
 
WATCHGUARD – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping contacting FUKUBANA. Passing the 250m, momentarily inconvenienced having its hind quarters contacted by MISHANI GANGSTER.
 
Race 3: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP         2000 M
 
CABOCHE (NZ) – Lost its off-fore plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to its off-fore heel bulb.  
 
TONY BE – Obliged to steady passing the winning post on the first occasion when tightened for room by HEAD OF STATE who was carried in by KORUTO who was carried in by CABOCHE (NZ) which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey J. Orman rider of CABOCHE (NZ) was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.  
 
CHERNAK (FR) – Laid out throughout the event.
 
GALIFIANAKIS (IRE) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of mild heat stress.
 
ARTFUL GIRL – Began awkwardly.
 
After the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.
 
Race 4: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP       1600 M
 
COMMODUS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
GRANITE PRINCE – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
MISHANI MISSILE – Hampered shortly after jumping.
 
CHARLIE'S CASE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ORIGINAL GLAZE. Passing the 800m, steadied after improving onto the heels of SMOOTH TORQUE. Obliged to steady upon entering the home straight after being carried wider by TAREX (NZ) across the heels of COMMODUS. A. Thompson rider of TAREX (NZ) was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident.
 
ORIGINAL GLAZE – Hampered on jumping.
 
O'MISS BEHAVING – Hampered shortly after jumping.
 
KINETIC – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight until leaving the 200m. Near the 50m, hampered when placed on the heels of GRANITE PRINCE which laid out.
 
SMOOTH TORQUE – Bumped approaching the finishing line by KINETIC which was taken out by GRANITE PRINCE.
 
Race 5: CASCADE CLASS 1 HANDICAP      1350 M
 
RUSSIAN MYSTIC – Raced wide.
 
QUOTHQUAN – Laid in leaving the 900m. Shortly thereafter, steadied from the heels of ILFRACOMBE KID which shifted in. Approaching the 600m when racing keenly, improved onto heels and was steadied.
 
NOTACLUEHOWORWHO– Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 200m was obliged to shift in to continue to improve into clear running.
 
ONE REASON – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide.
 
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Bumped on jumping and subsequently restrained from the wide barrier to a position nearer the rail. Leaving the 900m, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of QUOTHQUAN which laid in. Approaching the 600m when racing keenly, improved onto heels and was steadied. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey M. Harley stated on straightening after placing his mount under pressure, it did not run as expected however noted that the gelding raced keenly throughout and proved difficult to settle.
 
THESECONDATPORTSEA – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
FIRE LOVE – Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
ILFRACOMBE KID – Commenced to over race approaching the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened.
 
CLASSIQUE GAL – Raced in restricted room for a number of strides approaching the 200m and was disappointed for a run between COASTAL RAIDER and FIRE LOVE which shifted in under pressure.
 
SUKICHE – Raced wide. Over raced approaching the 900m.
 
Race 6: GIRLS DAY OUT ON SALE NOW CLASS 3 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
JOHN RAMBO – Raced wide.
 
NAVAL TRADER – Severely hampered on jumping, blundered and lost ground. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested.
 
CARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – Held up upon entering the home straight.
 
CLOVER'S PRINCE – Apprentice C. Graham reported her mount felt awkward in its stride over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Edmonds was advised to report back to Stewards in the subsequent days should any matters arise that may have affected the gelding’s performance.
 
DAMO DAYZ – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey J. Orman reported DAMO DAYZ may not have appreciated racing within runners and failed to let down when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer representative advised he will report back on the condition of the gelding in the subsequent days.   
 
AMATHUBA – Laid in near the 150m before being corrected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a laceration to its off-hind hock consistent with being galloped on and was subsequently treated on-course.        
 
AIRSTRIKE – Began very awkwardly, shifted out abruptly, making heavy contact with NAVAL TRADER and became unbalanced.
 
JUKEBOX GLOW – After beginning awkwardly, was bumped heavily by NAVAL TRADER which was taken out by AIRSTRIKE and became unbalanced.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
CONSTANT FLIGHT – Approaching the 700m, laid in becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of MAHBABY. Laid in throughout.
 
LASTING KISS – Jockey J. Bayliss reported his mount was inclined to hang out from the 600m.
 
RISING – Over raced when being restrained in an attempt to find cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of mild heat stress.
 
MAHBABY – Slow to begin.
 
CRAZY TRAIN – Had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 200m.
 
JAYANTHI – Momentarily held up for clear running when entering the home straight.
 
After the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Soft 6.
 
Race 8: XXXX BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1600 M
 
WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) – Lost its near-fore plate.
 
COCOBREW EXPRESS – Commenced to over race when being restrained passing the 1300m.
 
NO GOING BACK – When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice M. Castle stated her intentions were to lead in today’s event and was able to take up a position in the early stages to the outside of COCOBREW EXPRESS. When passing the 1300m her mount commenced to race fierce when being restrained and as such, was unable to steady the fast pace. She added passing the 400m her mount commenced to weaken noticeably and as such elected not to place her mount under any pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an upper respiratory noise. Trainer N. Owen was advised NO GOING BACK will require veterinary clearance inclusive of a dynamic scope and to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming. Trainer N. Owen reported he would freshen the gelding up and would experiment with gear in an attempt to get it to settle better in its races.
 
Race 9: BECOME A MEMBER OPEN HANDICAP         1350 M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow second place getter T. Marshall rider of THE ELANORA to review the Stewards patrol footage in the home straight. After reviewing the footage, Jockey T. Marshall elected not to proceed with a protest and correct weight was declared.
 
BOOM TORQUE – Lost its near-fore plate.
 
LEGAL ESPRIT – Blundered shortly after the start. Raced wide. Approaching the 100m, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of THE ELANORA who shifted in under riding. Jockey T. Marshall was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.
 
ROMAN AUREUS – Approaching the 100m, was obliged to steady when racing in restricted room to the inside of WAPITI.
 
THE ELANORA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide. Laid in under pressure in the home straight shifting considerable ground.
 
HATCHET – Over raced in the early stages after the pace of the race slackened passing the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of a poor post-race recovery. Trainer representative M. Sharpe advised the gelding would now be spelled.
 
NEVER NO MORE (IRE) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight shifting considerable ground.
 
HOT SPRING GOLD – Slow to begin.
 
DON'T STOP – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.
 
BAANONE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from inside the 300m and was unable to be tested at any stage in the home straight.
 
Race 10:LADBROKES RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE)   1350 M
 
BRAD – Began awkwardly, shifted in and contacted Jumped awkward, shift in and contacted MALONEY.
 
HARLEQUIN FIELD – Hampered on jumping.
 
TEXAS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MAGIC IN ME – On return to scale, Jockey J. Byrne stated his mount took charge in the early stages racing fierce and hung out severely placing him at a disadvantage. He added bearing in mind his mounts racing mannerisms, he was of the opinion MAGIC IN ME finished off well over the concluding stages. Trainer G. Schwenke was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
