GENERAL
 
As Jockey M. Harley was indisposed, he was replaced by R. Dolan as the rider of HOLSTEIN (Race 6).  
 
REDWOOD SHADOW (NZ) (Race 7) was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice due to becoming cast in its box. Co-Trainer M. Sears was advised the gelding would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
Race 1: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 2020 M
 
BECKFORD – Raced wide throughout.
 
MOTELL– Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ARTFUL GIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted out near the 1200m in order to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.
Apprentice M. Potgieter reported the mare raced flat and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

FOUR O'CLOCK KNOCK (NZ) – Steadied approaching the winning post on the first occasion when obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of MISHANI MISSILE.
 
SIGOURNEY (NZ) – Restrained from heels when passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
BAK DA MAN (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages. Over raced in the early stages when restrained in attempt to obtain cover. Laid in near the 600m becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of BECKFORD before being corrected. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Orman stated the gelding may not have been suited to the tempo of the race. After the running of this race, it was noted the gelding lost its off fore plate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CONTRITION (NZ) – After the running of this race, it was noted the mare had lost its near fore plate.
 
Race 2: GIRLS DAY OUT 2 MARCH CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1615 M
 
BLUE RAY – Connections advised a change of tactics, to settle further back with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
AMERICAN PHIREBALL – Inconvenienced shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NOTACLUEHOWORWHO – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. Obliged to alter course near the 300m to shift wider and improve.
 
YOU AND I (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Morris stated his mount over raced throughout and failed to settle at any stage of the event. He added that in his opinion the tongue tie which was apart of the geldings approved gear may have become loose during the event and resulted in YOU AND I (NZ) choking down. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Thompson advised it was his intention to send the gelding for a spell.  
 
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Connections advised a change of tactics, to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
JOE MAMA (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LUCANIA. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey G. Cartwright stated that after having difficulty restraining her mount, she elected to allow the gelding to stride forward in an attempt to settle.
 
LUCANIA – Bumped on jumping, shifted in and inconvenienced AMERICAN PHIREBALL.
 
CLASSIQUE GAL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
WAR TOO ALL – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: THE CONSERVATORY AT TATTERSALL'S CLUB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350 M
 
KOKONOTSU – Bumped heavily near the 350m and became unbalanced.
 
LIVING FREE – Began awkwardly and bumped with RUSSIAN MYSTIC.
 
DIRTY DANCING – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Momentarily held up for clear running entering the home straight.
 
RUSSIAN MYSTIC – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.
 
SACRED FEELING (NZ) – Had difficulty securing clear running from approaching the 100m and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
BELLE TYCOON – Held up for clear running in the home straight.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer E. Ensby was advised BELLE TYCOON would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
DOUBLE SCOOP – Steadied from heels near the 800m before shifting wider and was ridden forward to the lead.
 
SNOW BOUM – Began awkwardly. Near the 350m, was directed out to secure clear running and initiated heavy contact with KOKONOTSU causing both horses to become unbalanced.
 
Race 4: TATTERSALL'S LIFE MEMBERS QTIS JEWEL PRELUDE 2YO COLTS & GELDINGS PLATE 1110 M

HEAD HONCHO – Hung out for the majority whilst racing wide. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported his mount hung out severely throughout the event placing him at a disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Tyrell advised Stewards that he would remove the blinkers from the horse’s gear and with this in mind, Stewards were satisfied to issue a warning on the horses racing manners.
 
DEFIANT BOOM – Laid out in the home straight.
 
CRYPTOSTAR – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
MISHANI HITMAN – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
ALL INCLUSIVE – Over raced in the early stages and raced greenly throughout. Laid in in the home straight.
 
STREET CHASE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making contact with the running rail and was subsequently cleared to start. Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and had difficulty securing clear running until leaving the 200m.
 
SUPERALLOY – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 100m.
 
WAYFARER'S WAY – Over raced in the early stages.
 
MR CROWNING MOMENT – Slow to begin.
 
Race 5: WEDDINGS AT TATTERSALL'S CLUB QTIS JEWEL PRELUDE 2YO FILLIES PLATE 1110 M
 
FIELDS AMOUR – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
TIME TO CRY – Over raced in the middle stages. Shifted out to secure clear running in the straight and became unbalanced. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
BLANTONS RUN – Slow to begin.
 
OVERFULL – Over raced passing the 800m when the pace of the race slackened.
 
SANDY GRIP – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TIYE – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. Jockey A. Jones was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b) to ride her mount out to the finish.
 
Race 6: FUNCTIONS AT TATTERSALL'S CLUB CLASS 6 PLATE 1350 M
 
BOOM TORQUE – Restrained off the heels of BRENTWOOD after the pace of the race slackened in the early stages.
 
HOLSTEIN – Over raced in the early stages when restrained to obtain cover.
 
PREPOTENT – Over raced in the middle stages. Severely hampered passing the 200m after VIMINELE shifted out contacting the gelding resulting in that runner becoming unbalanced. Jockey J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.  
 
VIMINELE – Was disappointed for run inside the final 200m resulting in the horse becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of BETTCHA THE CROWN shortly thereafter shifted out in an attempt to improve making heavy contact PREPOTENT resulting in that runner to become unbalanced for a stride.
 
PETUNIA – Slow to begin.
 
BETTCHA THE CROWN – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m, shifted out to improve into clear running.
 
MIYAKE – Raced wide throughout.
 
MYCHYNA (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 7: TATTERSALL'S ARCADE BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1615 M
 
WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
COCOBREW EXPRESS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils and had cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer R. Tyrell was advised under rules AR79(4) and AR88B(2) that the gelding would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months, require veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG and trial over 1000m followed by a veterinary examination subsequent to the trial.
 
VENDIDIT – Inconvenienced shortly after the start. When questioned regarding settling further back in the field, Jockey B. Thornton stated that after suffering interference in the early stages and the genuine tempo of the race, it was forced to settle further back than anticipated.
 
HELEVA DEEL – Raced in restricted room for a number of strides shortly after jumping.
 
SO DAPPER – Raced in restricted room near the 1400m and had to be steadied.
 
BOLD PEDRO – Momentarily held up approaching the 400m.
 
PERFECT ENCOUNTER – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
O'MISS BEHAVING – Slow to begin.
 
Race 8: MEMBERSHIP AT TATTERSALL'S CLUB OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M
 
CONTEMPTUOUS – Declared a late scratching at 4:22pm on veterinary advice due to a significant laceration to it’s tongue after becoming fractious whilst saddled. Stable representative J. Mallyon was advised that the horse would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets onCONTEMPTUOUS to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st - LEGAL ESPRIT – 12c win, 14c place.
2nd - GOLDEN BOOM – 4c place.
3rd - RANCH HAND – 22c place.
 
ARENTEE – Raced wide throughout.
 
STARVIRGO – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m, checked from the heels of LEGAL ESPRIT when that horse was forced in by RANCH HAND which shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
GOLDEN BOOM – Over raced whilst leading in the middle stages.
 
PERSEIDS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages when restrained in an attempt to obtain cover.
 
GAIUS – Began awkwardly and was slow to muster speed. Became awkwardly placed on heels and was momentarily inconvenienced passing the 100m.
 
Race 9: LADBROKE IT! QTIS JEWEL PRELUDE 3YO HANDICAP 1110 M
 
DEFIANT SPIRIT – Slow to begin. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m. After the race it was noted the gelding had lost its near fore plate.
 
MISHANI ROYALE – Raced wide throughout.
 
FEMME FATALE – Raced wide throughout.
 
KESALUL – Obliged to alter course approaching the 200m and was obliged to alter course to secure clear running. Laid out in the home straight.
 
SHE'S A ROGUE– Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a laceration to its near hind leg.
 
SURREAL ASCOT – As Jockey K. Matheson was unable to make weight, he was replaced by N. Beriman as the rider of SURREAL ASCOT. Jockey K. Matheson was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride for which he was to be overweight. Hung out racing wide.
 
VINDICTA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
DOYLE – Raced greenly approaching the 800m, hung out and had to be steadied from heels.
 
LUMENS LENNY – Began awkwardly and was tightened for room shortly afterwards loosing ground. Over raced at heels from approaching the 800m and until approaching the 300m. Held up for clear running upon entering the home straight. Shifted in over the concluding stages to improve into clear running.
 
CAPITAL CHASE – Laid out in the home straight. When questioned regarding the gelding leading in today’s event, Jockey J. Byrne stated that he was instructed to be positive on jumping and to attempt to lead. He added shortly after jumping, he was able to obtain a position in the lead and after receiving pressure passing the 1000m by HIGHBAR who was being ridden vigorously to obtain a leading position, his mount commenced to over race and rather than restrain, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward. When questioned, Trainer S. Kendrick confirmed the instructions to Jockey J. Byrne. When questioned in relation to the instructions for DEFIANT SPIRIT who settled further back than its previous start, he stated he was surprised to see the gelding leading last start and from the wide barrier today, instructed Jockey R. Dolan to ride the gelding further back where DEFIANT SPIRIT in his opinion, performs at its best. Mr Kendrick further added that CAPTIAL CHASE at its most recent trial, led convincingly and as such was ridden in accordance with its most recent trial. Stewards advised Mr Kendrick that although CAPITAL CHASE led in its previous trial, he still had an obligation to advise Stewards the gelding would potentially settle further forward, and that trial form is not a reliant indicator on where a horse would settle in a race. Stewards further added that despite DEFIANT SPIRIT dropping back in distance, he had an obligation to advise Stewards of a change of tactics. Trainer S. Kendrick was reminded of his obligations under AR100 to notify Stewards of a change of tactics.
 
Race 10: XXXX OPEN HANDICAP 1615 M
 
OSCAR ZULU – Had difficultly securing clear running rounding the home turn.
 
SEAT OF POWER (IRE) – Raced wide throughout.
 
DAYTONA BAY – Over raced whilst leading during the early stages.
 
SNEAK PREVIEW – When asked to comment on the performance Apprentice C. Graham stated that her mount at no stage travelled comfortably and when settling back in the field, resented the kick-back from the other runners proving disappointing in its overall effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
ROUSSEAU – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated the horse over raced during the early stages, hung out slightly from the 800m and when the pace of the race quickened, was under pressure and was disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SHOPPING ESPRIT – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting sign of heat stress.
 
STUCK WITH YOU (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
TREVELYAN – Raced wide throughout.
 
SEA RAIDER – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the lead approaching the 800m. When questioned regarding the seamlessly improved performance, Trainer representative C. Gilmore stated the race was run to suit today allowing for the gelding to lead in today’s event where in his opinion SEA RAIDER is best suited. He  added that in his opinion SEA RAIDER appreciated the give out of the ground and was not surprised with the forward showing of today.
