SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
 
GENERAL
All runners in the Magic Millions National 2YO Classic and the Doomben Cup underwent veterinary inspections on Friday the 24th of May 2024 and were cleared to race.
 
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 1. J. McDonald +1kg
Race 1. Z. Lloyd +0.5kg
 
 
Race 1: STRADBROKE CALCUTTA 13 JUNE BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP       1350 Metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to enquire into whether SIR WARWICK was afforded an advantage as the start was effected. After taking evidence from jockey M. Rodd, official starter H. Anderson and trainer J. Capewell, Stewards concluded that SIR WARWICK was afforded no advantage as the starter had effected the start, and declared correct weight on the judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
NEVER NO MORE (IRE) – On entering the home straight, was slightly disadvantaged after jockey N. Rawillers’ whip became entangled in his reins when attempting to draw it. Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that NEVER NO MORE will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
WATEGOS – Change of tactics – to be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
SECRET PLAN – Raced wide for the majority.  
 
SIR WARWICK – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 800m, momentarily steadied from the heels of STANDING ORDER. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight.
 
STANDING ORDER – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey T. Berry reported that in his opinion, failed to finish off as expected. When asked to comment, trainer T. Gollan stated that in his opinion, the gelding resents racing to the inside of runners and after receiving pressure to the inside of SECRET PLAN, he wasn’t surprised to see STANDING ORDER not finish the race off as expected. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised he would report back on the post race condition of the gelding.
 
POWERFUL PEG – Began awkwardly. Passing the 200m, was hampered and had to be restrained after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of AVEBURY which shifted out marginally and PACIFIC RUBY which laid in under pressure.  
 
ARTS OBJECT – Slow to begin.
 
PACIFIC RUBY – Began awkwardly and bumped SPOOKY SPIRIT shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
AVEBURY (NZ) – Shifted out marginally on entering the home straight before being corrected and shifted in and inconvenienced SIR WARWICK. When q regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J. McDonald advised that the mare over raced during the early and middle stages, which resulted in her failing to finish off the race as expected.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SPOOKY SPIRIT – As jockey L. Tilley was overweight, he was replaced by apprentice Z. Lloyd. Jockey L. Tilley was fined $100 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 2: THE STAR BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP         1110 Metres
 
Following the running of race 1, the track was downgraded retrospectively to Soft 6.  
 
OSAMU – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SWISS EXILE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn.
 
TSUNAMI SAM (NZ) – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly afterwards, losing ground. Raced keenly during the early stages. Tightened approaching the winning post between VODKA MARTINI, which shifted out under pressure, and SWISS EXILE. Apprentice C. Graham, rider of VODKA MARTINI, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.  
 
VODKA MARTINI – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in under pressure leaving the 200m and shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
IMMORAL – Restrained from the wide barrier. Raced three wide with cover for the majority.
 
KINGSTON'S HERE – Raced wide throughout.
 
LOST IN TRANSIT – Slow to begin.
 
HAKKAI MARU – Slow to begin.
 
LIQUOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MUSCHIALLI – Raced wide with cover for the majority.
 
MY SNOW QUEEN – Lost the off hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 3: SEVEN DARBY MCCARTHY   1110 Metres
 
CELUI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced wide throughout.
 
GENZANO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide with cover for the majority.  
 
SHOW ME MERCY – Began awkwardly.
 
TARGETED – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Orman reported that the gelding was under pressure from the 600m and he desisted from pressuring TARGETED from the 200m, and in his opinion, may not have handled the track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SKIRT THE LAW – Raced wide with cover for the majority.
 
POWER BALLARD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey T. Clark stated that the filly was first up and had a tough run in transit and may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer A. Bott advised he will report back on the post race condition of POWER BALLARD.
 
FORTUNEER – Bumped shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey T. Schiller reported that in his opinion, the filly resented the kickback and when able to get to a position wider on the track, it finished off well. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer M. Hoysted was advised to report back on the post race condition of the filly.
 
AVONE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ENTERPRISE LUCIA – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
CAILIN ALAINN – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 4: CITY PROPERTY SERVICES BILL CARTER STAKES   1200 Metres
 
POSTER GIRL – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
LINCOLNSHIRE – Leaving the 900m, inconvenienced and carried wider for a short distance. Raced wide with cover for the remainder.
 
CANARA – Began awkwardly.  
 
CLEAN ENERGY – Began awkwardly.
 
NOT SURPRISED – Momentarily raced in restricted room shortly after the start. Approaching the 900m, raced in restricted room momentarily when CLEAN ENERGY shifted in before being corrected by its rider, then became awkwardly placed at heels and shifted out and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
ZATANNA – Jockey B. Shinn stated that, in his opinion, the filly may not have handled the step up in distance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BANK BOOK – Began awkwardly.
 
TIYE – Became awkwardly and had to be steadied from heels approaching the 500m.
 
SHERAQUAY – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
PEE BEE NOIR – Approaching the 600m, whilst over racing, became awkwardly placed at heels.
 
SURPRISE HONEY – Approaching the 900m, when being corrected by its rider, raced greenly and shifted out abruptly inconveniencing LINCOLNSHIRE. Raced wide without cover throughout. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R. Maloney reported that the filly had a tough run in transit which may have impacted her finishing efforts. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 5: MAGIC MILLIONS NATIONAL 2YO CLASSIC         1050 Metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 5 minutes when LEAD ME ON required its near fore to be replated on arrival at the barriers.
 
SPYWIRE – Bumped on jumping.
 
LEAD ME ON – Bumped on jumping. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide with cover throughout. Bumped on the hindquarters for a number of strides leaving the 700m.
 
ASTAPOR – Began awkwardly resulting in its rider becoming momentarily unbalanced. Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
GIN A TONIC – Shifted out on jumping and bumped SPYWIRE. Shifted in before being corrected by its rider on entering the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr B. Laming was advised that GIN A TONIC will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
EMBASSY – Raced wide without cover. Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
KING OF ROSEAU – At the 700m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied between DEVINE FORCE and LEAD ME ON.
 
SILVA 'N' SUAVE – Shifted in and bumped LEAD ME ON at the start. Raced wide with cover throughout. Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn.
 
THE HAMO – Raced wide without cover.
 
ENEEZA – Began awkwardly. Bumped entering the home straight by KING OF ROSEAU which shifted in when awkwardly placed at the heels of GIN A TONIC. When asked to comment on the performance after beginning poorly, he was then obliged to pressure the filly to take up a position and ultimately settled on the worst part of the track. He added that he wasn’t overly disappointed with the performance.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ARABIAN SUMMER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped FIELDS AMOUR. Raced wide without cover for the majority.  
 
FIELDS AMOUR – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
 
Race 6: XXXX CHIEF DE BEERS   1110 Metres
 
SPACEWALK – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment, jockey J. McDonald reported that the gelding was disappointing especially over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DOULL – Shifted out shortly after the start and bumped GO WANDJI. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment, jockey B. Shinn reported may not have handled the prevailing track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer’s representative for the A. Neasham stable, T. Pollard was advised to report back on the post race condition of the horse.
 
SHOOTING FOR GOLD – Was declared a late scratching due to the track downgrade at 1.20pm.
 
KING KAPA – Fractious prior to the start. Began awkwardly, then bumped by HARDWARE LANE.  Jockey D. Lane reported that the gelding travelled well, however was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HARDWARE LANE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped KING KAPA.   
 
SMART IMAGE – Knuckled on jumping. Near the 700m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of AT WITZ END.
 
GO WANDJI – Hampered shortly after the start. Passing the 50m, raced in restricted room and unable to be fully tested to the line.
 
PENTHOUSE – Raced wide throughout.
 
GOLDEN BOOM – Raced wide until approaching the 700m.
 
WILLINGA BEAST – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
 
Race 7: DRINKWISE MILE    1600 Metres
 
ZOE'S PROMISE – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey A. Mallyon stated that he wasn’t overly disappointed with the effort, but in his opinion, ZOE’S PROMISE is better suited to racing on bigger tracks. Trainer K. Lees reported he would report back on the condition of the mare in the days subsequent. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
FOXY FRIDA – Raced wide throughout.
 
OSMOSE (FR) – Began awkwardly.
 
THALASSOPHILE – Slow to begin.
 
REBEL RAMA – Raced wide throughout.
 
SONORA – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
POETIC DRAMA (NZ) – Approaching the 1300m, raced in restricted room.
 
MARACANA (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
FIRESTORM (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
CHICA MOJITO (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Leaving the 1200m, shifted in when racing keenly and brushed the running rail. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 8: ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS THE ROSES         2000 Metres
 
MOLLY BLOOM (NZ) – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post on the first occasion. M. Rodd, rider of OCEANS OF ENERGY, was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.  Raced wide throughout. Bumped and forced wider leaving the 900m.
 
TUTTA LA VITA – Bumped on jumping. Shifted out leaving the 900m.
 
AMAZONIAN LASS – Slow to begin. Shifted in on entering the home straight, inconveniencing GOOD BANTER.
 
PRIVATE LEGACY – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trainer G. Hickman was advised that PRIVATE LEGACY will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG and must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
MOLLYNICKERS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Leaving the 1600m, had to be restrained from heels.
 
MISS JOELENE – Leaving the 1600m, when racing keenly shifted out momentarily.
 
GOOD BANTER (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced on entering the home straight.
 
PIER PRESSURE – Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 200m.
 
OCEANS OF ENERGY – Raced wide throughout.
 
MARE OF MT BULLER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
KIND WORDS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TUTTA LA VITA. Inconvenienced leaving the 1600m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
 
Race 9: XXXX DOOMBEN CUP    2000 Metres
 
NUMERIAN (IRE) – Approaching the 1500m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides, when racing to the inside of DETONATOR JACK, and had to be restrained. Jockey T. Sherry, rider of NAVAL COLLEGE, pled guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) whereby he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DETONATOR JACK, who was carried in onto NUMERIAN, who also had to be restrained and lost its rightful running. Jockey Sherry’s license to ride in races was suspended for 13 days commencing at midnight the 1st of June and ending at midnight 14th of June 2024. Jockey Sherry was advised of his right of appeal.
 
HUETOR (FR) – Slow to begin.
 
KOVALICA (NZ) – Over raced during the middle stages. Passing the 1600m, obliged to steady to avoid the heels of YOUNG WERTHER which had to be checked.
 
DETONATOR JACK (NZ) – Slow to begin. Passing the 1600m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of NAVAL COLLEGE which shifted in. As a result, the hindquarters of DETONATOR JACK were turned resulting in the gelding becoming awkward in its stride. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VOW AND DECLARE – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey B. Egan reported the gelding may not have handled today’s track conditions.
 
SERPENTINE (IRE) – Raced wide throughout.
 
YOUNG WERTHER (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1500m, after racing in restricted room for a number of strides, had to be checked from the heels of NEW ENDEAVOUR and lost considerable ground.
 
EL BODEGON (IRE) – Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
FAWKNER PARK (IRE) – Slow to begin.
 
NEW ENDEAVOUR (IRE) – Approaching the 1600m, raced in restricted room for a number of strides.  
 
 
Race 10:LADBROKES BRC SPRINT   1350 Metres
 
CEPHEUS (GB) – Was declared a late scratching at 1.15pm due to the track downgrade.
 
RUSTIC STEEL – Raced wide with cover throughout. Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
PHEARSON – Began awkwardly, hampered shortly afterwards and lost ground.
 
SURF DANCER (IRE) – Began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery.  
 
STRAIT ACER – Began awkwardly.
 
UCALLEDIT (NZ) – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trainer K. Lees was advised that UCALLEDIT will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG and must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
YELLOW BRICK – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
IRISH SONGS – Held up for clear running entering the home straight until leaving the 100m.
 
FREEDOM RALLY – Slow to begin. Over raced during the early and middle stages. Jockey C. Williams reported that after being slow to begin, he had to make greater use of his mount and as a result may have effected its finishing effort.
