GENERAL
As M Du Plessis was not riding for acceptable reasons, changes were made as per the Race Day summary sheet.
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meeting:
Race 1: CRIMSON BEAUTY – J Huxtable 56.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
Stewards inquired into a complaint lodged by Assistant Steward Adam Brook into the actions of trainer Mr Rex Lipp prior to the horse’s entering the mounting enclosure for Race 7. After taking evidence from both parties and witnesses Mr B Niemann and Mr J Hancock, Mr Lipp pleaded guilty pursuant to a charge under AR228(c) in that prior to the running of Race 7, and in the vicinity of entrance of the mounting yard, Mr Lipp did act improperly when he approached Mr Brook and made contact to Mr Brook’s left arm using his hand, whilst Assistant Steward Brook was undertaking his official duties.
 
Stewards adjourned the inquiry to consider penalty.
 
 
 
Race 1:STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW MAIDEN PLATE 2030 M
 
HIMEJI – Jumped out at the start and bumped VERMEER. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 500m. Leaving the 200m disappointed for a run and obliged to steady, and as a result went to the line unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
KINGFIELD – Change of tactics, more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
PUNJABI LANDING – Bumped near the 200m. Raced greenly near the 100m and the taken in approaching the winning post by LUISANA.
 
SALAMANCAS – Disappointed for a run between KINGFIELD and BACKLIT BEAUTY leaving the 200m before then having difficulty securing clear running for the remainder of the home straight.
 
VERMEER – Change of tactics, more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Bumped on jumping.
 
LUISANA – Bumped on jumping and then lost ground when crowded for room between runners. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
AMERICOLA – Jumped out at the start and bumped APFEL.
 
APFEL – Bumped on jumping and then lost ground when crowded for room between runners. Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining cover near the 1400m. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 500m. Approaching the 200m shifted out and bumped with PUNJABI LANDING. Approaching the finish line taken in and crowded for room by PUNJABI LANDING, which when racing greenly, was taken in by LUISANA (B AINSWORTH) which shifted in under pressure. In reprimanding B Ainsworth pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident, Stewards advised B Ainsworth she would be expected to take corrective measures sooner in similar circumstances in the future, and also noted the racing characteristics of PUNJAB FLYER leading up to the incident.
 
CRIMSON BEAUTY – Raced wide for the majority.
 
LINDA'S MAGIC – Jumped in at the start and bumped LUISANA.
 
MIRACLE SEVEN – Entering the home straight shifted out to improve and bumped with LUISANA.
 
 
 
 
Race 2: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP     1200 M
 
SPIRIT FOX – When asked to comment on the performance rider K Wilson-Taylor could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than the gelding may have now come to the end of its preparation. Co-trainer C Geran advised consideration would now be given to sending SPIRIT FOX for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
APUNTAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced approaching the 800m shifted in and bumped BLANTONS RUN. Raced keenly leaving 600m.
 
DON'T FORGET JACK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
EAGLE'S FIRE – Jumped out at the start.
 
PULPIT – Slow to begin, then bumped shortly after and lost ground. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 100m.
 
BLANTONS RUN – Bumped near the 800m.Raced keenly leaving 600m, and a short distance later improved onto heels and shifted out. Approaching the 100m improved onto heels and shifted wider on the track.
 
MISHANI FIRE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
MISHANI SUSPECT – Jumped in at the start.
 
 
 
Race 3: CASCADE MAIDEN HANDICAP       1200 M
 
STEALING SOULS – Slow to begin.
 
GOLD ACADEMY – Brushed with CAREFUL MISSILE at the start.
 
STRAPPEROO – Near the 200m improved onto the heels of ASSEMBLE before shifting out to improve. Inclined to lay out for the majority of the home straight.
 
BIT OF GRUNT – Bumped heavily at the start and lost ground.
 
CAREFUL MISSILE – Brushed with GOLD ACADEMY at the start.Raced wide for the majority.
 
MYSTIC MAC – Jumped away awkwardly shifted out and lost ground.
 
ASSEMBLE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide with cover from the 700m. Rider R Maloney advised, in his opinion, the horse after missing the start was not suited racing back in the field.
 
BOARD MEMBER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider B Thornton advised the filly raced greenly for the majority and would derive benefit from today’s event.
 
FIRST TO MARS – Slow to begin.
 
SPRUCE – Shifted in abruptly at the start and bumped heavily with BIT OF GRUNT. Raced wide in the early stages before settling outside the leader from the 700m. Weakened from 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be making an upper respiratory noise following the event. Mr C Cavanagh, representative for trainer T Gollan, was advised SPRUCE would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of a satisfactory endoscopic report prior to racing again. Mr Cavanagh further advised a tongue tie would now be added to the approved racing gear of SPRUCE.
 
 
Race 4: WORLD POOL ON 1 JUNE OPEN HANDICAP         1200 M
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to review the photo finish image for fourth.
 
OVIDIUS – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1000m after being crossed by NOBLE STYLE.
 
DREAM HOUR – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – After beginning awkwardly from the wide barrier, was then restrained to a rearward position closer to the rail.
 
MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO – On arrival at the barriers the tongue tie was found to have been displaced, and when unable to be refitted in a timely manner, and in consultation with stable representative Mr T Pollard, permission was granted for MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO to race without that piece of gear.
 
PUNCH LANE – Displaced the near-side bubble cheeker prior to arriving at the barriers and subsequently raced without that piece of gear.
 
NOBLE STYLE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
 
Race 5: STRADBROKE CALCUTTA 13 JUNE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1630 M
 
TIP OF THE SPEAR – Change of tactics, to be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly after being crowded on jumping and settling in a rearward position.
 
ANEMACORE – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure over final 200m.
 
COUP DE TONNERRE – Improved onto heels over the concluding stages and as a consequence was unable to be fully tested approaching the winning post.
 
ARTFUL GIRL – Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 900m.
 
COOL KAAP – Change of tactics, more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
CARTWHEELS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten on a number of occasions.
 
VETOED – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
 
Race 6: XXXX CLASS 5 HANDICAP     1350 M
 
HE'S HEAVEN – Laid out shortly after the start crowding SEBRING GIRL which had to be steadied. When asked to comment on the performance rider J Byrne advised HE’S IN HEAVEN raced keenly in the early and middle stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
UNDER THE CAP – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
SEBRING GIRL – Crowded shortly after the start and had to be steadied.
 
COOL ENCOUNTER – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP         1110 M
 
AIR MARSHAL – Trainer R Beaton was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late rider declaration on AIR MARSHALL. Slow to begin.
 
DIVINE OKAY – Bumped at the start.
 
MINKS STAR – Raced ungenerously passing the 800m.Raced wide for the majority.
 
REDZOUST – Raced wide for the majority and near the 700m forced wider when SONNY DAZE shifted out after improving onto heels.
 
I AM VOODOO – Crowded shortly after the start and had to be restrained. Raced wide for the majority and near the 700m forced wider when SONNY DAZE shifted out after improving onto heels.
 
MIO SORRENTO – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – Jumped out at the start and bumped DIVINE OKAY.
 
BLUESTONE LANE – From the wide barrier restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Steadied passing the 200m when SMART RECOGNITION laid in. Improved onto heels passing the 100m and went to the line unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
SMART RECOGNITION – Laid in under pressure approaching the 200m.
 
SONNY DAZE – Near the 700m improved onto heels, shifted out taking REDZOUST and I AM VOODOO wider on the track.
 
 
Race 8: BECOME A BRC MEMBER CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1350 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes when the off-hind plate of PROSPERINA was refitted.
 
JUNGLE PRINCE – Bumped heavily at the start and lost ground.
 
PEROVIC – Raced wide for the majority.
 
BRASCO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
IMARICHGIRL – Slow to begin.Raced wide for the majority.
 
POWER FLASH – Raced wide for the majority.
 
BRAIN FOG – Raced wide for the majority.
 
PROSPERINA – On arrival at the barriers the off-hind plate was refitted, underwent a veterinary examination, and was cleared to start.Slow to begin.
 
RISK ASSESSMENT – Jumped out at the start and bumped heavily with JUNGLE PRINCE.
 
CLAUDIUS – Near the 1100m, when being restrained, over-raced for a short distance. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and 200m.
