OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – G. Goold

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Race 8 - Eagle Farm 4 May 2024 - VICTORY STAKES
Panel – J. Adams, G. Goold, P. Zimmermann.

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the tactics adopted on BAWLER, ridden by Jockey A Jones. Evidence was taken following the race from Jockey Jones and Trainer Tony Gollan before being adjourned to allow stewards to review the wagering on the event.

After considering all the evidence, Stewards were of the opinion that Jockey Jones should have made a greater effort passing the 800m to restrain her mount in an attempt to obtain cover in the middle stages behind UNCOMMON JAMES after it become apparent that UNCOMMON JAMES had established a position three wide to her inside. Stewards also advised Jockey Jones that she should have made a greater effort to relieve pressure to UNCOMMON JAMES after BALLER laid in for a considerable period passing the 800m to a point near the 500m where BALLER shifted in contacting UNCOMMON JAMES.

In considering all the circumstances, Stewards were not of the opinion that the ride was culpable but advised Jockey Jones in future circumstances to ride her mount in a manner that does not invite question.
