GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meeting:
Race 8: BRASCO – Michael Rodd 56kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1:RACECOURSE VILLAGE MAIDEN PLATE         2040 M
 
DAWN PARTY – After passing the winning post on the first occasion over raced when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
FISHERMAN'S BEACH – Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FRANKEL MOON – Began awkwardly.
 
IL TORO D'ORO – Slow to begin.
 
HIMEJI – Began awkwardly and jumped in at the start. Over-raced and steadied near the 1200m and shifted out. Continued to over-race for some distance thereafter when racing wide with cover. Near the 400m restrained to avoid the heels of LUISANA which shifted out to improve.
 
BACKLIT BEAUTY – Laid in under pressure from the 600m.Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
LADY DEANNE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
LUISANA – Slow to begin.
 
BENFICA LASS – Jumped out at the start and lost ground. Passing the winning post on the first occasion raced in restricted room and had to be steadied to the inside of VIKING BLOOD (J Huxtable) which shifted in. J Huxtable was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
 
 
Race 2: TEDDY BEARS PICNIC 3 AUGUST QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1110 M
 
CIPHERTEXT – On arrival at the barriers and at the request of rider M Rodd, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 12:14pm on veterinary advice after found to be stepping short in the near foreleg. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on CIPHER TEXT to be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st: MATISSE – 0c win, 0c -place
2nd SURPRISE HONEY – 4c
3rd WARRIOR HEAD – 4c
 
Trainer H Page was advised CIPHER TEXT would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.  
 
NEIL – Jumped out at the start and bumped WANGANEEN. Raced greenly throughout, shifting in on a number of occasions rounding the home turn. Trainer M Dunn was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of NEIL. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
WANGANEEN – Slow to begin then bumped shortly after and lost ground. Raced greenly throughout.
 
ATTENTIVE – Near the 400m, when following SEABEE, obliged to alter course when that horse lost ground.
 
DREAM SMART – Jumped out at the start and bumped SURPRISE HONEY.
 
SEABEE – Near the 400m tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between MIXED SIGNALS and NEIL which shifted in when racing greenly.Weakened when placed under pressure in the home straight.A post-race veterinary examination revealed some muscle soreness over the off-hind quarters. Trainer K Schweida advised he would report back any further condition which may come to light in the coming days to explain the performance.
 
SURPRISE HONEY – Jumped in at the start and bumped DREAM SMART.
 
 
 
Race 3: CASCADE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP         1200 M
 
THE HAMO – Began awkwardly and shifted in at the start.Raced keenly for some distance passing the 800m when being restrained to obtain cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FITZPATRICK – Laid out under pressure passing the 200m.
 
ANSON BAY – Bounded in the air on jumping making heavy contact with the outside barrier partition resulting in rider R Maloney becoming unbalanced in the saddle and the horse losing significant ground. Held up from the 300m before being disappointed for a run near the 200m and from that point had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event.
 
SAVOUR THE DREAM – Slow to begin.Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
LIPAROTA – Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 900m when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
 
Race 4: XXXX MAIDEN HANDICAP      1200 M
 
EVERSTAR – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
EXPLOSIVE DRAGON – Jumped in at the start and bumped with STEEL KING. Shortly after the start bumped on the hindquarters when STEEL KING was taken out marginally. Passing the 1100m placed in restricted room and bumped with STEEL KING on a number of occasions when both runners were racing tightly between ADDITION and TAKING FLIGHT (C Waddell) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. C Waddell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
STEEL KING – Jumped out at the start and bumped with EXPLOSIVE DRAGON. Passing the 1100m placed in restricted room and bumped with EXPLOSIVE DRAGON on a number of occasions when both runners were racing tightly between ADDITION and TAKING FLIGHT (C Waddell) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Raced keenly in the early stages and as a result near the 800m, when over-racing, improved to the inside of JUNGLE LAW and raced in restricted for a short distance.
 
GLOWLIGHT – From the wide barrier restrained after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
JUNGLE LAW – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MIDNIGHT SEAS – Weakened from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed clinical signs of the thumps.
 
ISLAND LADY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
FIT AND PROPER – Slow to begin. Raced at the tail of the field and was uncompetitive for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer E Hargrave was advised a warning would be placed on the competitiveness of FIT AND PROPER and that consideration would be given to a metropolitan bar being placed on the gelding should it perform in a similar manner in the future.
 
CYBERWARS – Slow to begin. After passing the 600m restrained from the heels of the weakening MIDNIGHT SEAS and near the 500m obliged to check that runner’s heels.
 
 
Race 5: THE GIBSON BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP         2040 M
 
INTUITU – Over-raced for a short distance passing 1200m.
 
MAURICE'S MEDAD – When asked to comment on tactics adopted, particularly in leading, rider N Berriman stated instructions were to be positive from the barriers as per instructions issued at the horses most recent start, and after limited pace shown by runners drawn to the inside and with the step up in distance, she allowed MAURICE’S ME DAD to stride forward and take up the lead. As trainer B Lockwood confirmed the instructions issued, Stewards reminded him of his obligations under the rules to advise of any change of tactics in similar circumstances.   
 
COUP DE TONNERRE – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
JUNGLE PRINCE – Rider J Orman advised instructions were to ride forward in the early stages however he was concerned if he were to overly pressure the horse it would over-race as JUNGLE PRINCE has shown a tendency to race keenly in the past.   A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer T Sears advised in his opinion JUNGLE PRINCE failed to run out the distance of today’s event and that it would be his intention to have follow up veterinary tests conducted in the coming days adding JUNGLE PRINCE would now be sent for a short spell.  
 
SAVILEO – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run approaching the 100m and had to be steadied.
 
MANA COMBAT – Slow to begin. Passing the 300m momentarily inconvenienced when INTUITI shifted in before being corrected by its rider.
 
FLASH PRINCE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
 
Race 6: MULLINS LAWYERS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200 M
 
BOHEMIAN LAD – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
SPIRIT OF MAC – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider CJ Graham advised instructions were to go forward if possible, and after beginning awkwardly she did give consideration to restraining to take up a trailing position, however being mindful of her instructions, apprentice Graham elected to ride forward to a position outside the lead and her mount then raced keenly until entering the home straight. Apprentice Graham further added in hindsight she believed her mount would have been better served to have been restrained at the start and take up a rearward position with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
THE INFLICTOR – Blundered passing the 600m.Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider M Castle reported in her opinion THE INFLICTOR was not suited by today’s track conditions.
 
MISHANI GANGSTER – Slow to begin.Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
NORTH OF ELI – Jumped out at the start.
 
HEYOKA – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
Race 7: SKY RACING CLASS 5 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
SPACE TRACKER – Inclined to lay in for the majority of the event.
 
DIVINE OKAY – Rider B Wheeler reported the gelding was inclined to hang out from the 600m.
 
DASHING GEE GEE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
AMORE VELOCE – Jumped in at the start and bumped MIO SORRENTO.
 
MIO SORRENTO – Bumped at the start.
 
MOUNT FUJI – Bumped with THUNDER MANIA at the start.
 
THUNDER MANIA – Bumped with MOUNT FUJI at the start. Improved onto heels near the 600m and had to be steadied.
 
 
 
Race 8: MEKKA RACEDAY 17 AUGUST BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP 1350 M
 
ATLANTIC OCEAN – Raced wide for the majority.
 
KNIFE'S EDGE – Near the 900m when the pace steadied was restrained from heels.
 
FIGHTING IDOL – Jumped out at the start.
 
MOTELL – Began awkwardly.
 
MOCAMBO – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels near the 500m and had to be steadied.
 
DROP THE MIC – Crowded at the start and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority. Approaching the 200m disappointed for a run to the inside of ATLANTIC OCEAN.
 
SMOKIN' TOFF – Near the 900m when the pace steadied was restrained from heels.
 
IRON GRACE – Near the 150m disappointed for a run, obliged to shift out across heels and unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages.
 
SINGER SARGENT – Crowded at the start and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BIGGIE – Jumped in at the start. Weakened from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer E Hargrave was advised a metropolitan bar would be placed on BIGGIE in light of today’s poor performance.
 
 
 
Race 9: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1350 M
 
CUNNAMULLA FELLA – Jumped out at the start.Raced wide for the majority.
 
FREE CARRY – Jumped out at the start. Over-raced for a short distance passing the 1100m when being restrained to obtain cover. Laid out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
GENERAL BARCA – Inconvenienced over the concluding stages when RELEASE LE MISSILE shifted in.
 
YALLA – Change of tactics, to be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. Began well and was then restrained to settle in a midfield position.
 
FLEUR DE VIE – After beginning awkwardly was then bumped by FREE CARRY and lost ground. Rider Jake Bayliss reported the mare hung out in the home straight and on pulling up had concerns with its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Trainer Jamie Bayliss was advised FLEUR DE VIE would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Mr Bayliss advised Stewards the mare would now be sent for a spell.
 
TOROS – Raced wide for the majority.
 
FIREBOLT – Slow to begin.
 
LISSARO – Raced wide for the majority.
 
HIT – Over-raced for a short distance passing the 900m. After being held up rounding the home turn had to be restrained near the 350m when disappointed for a run.
 
MIGHTY JUDD – Shifted in shortly after the start and brushed the running rail. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
THOUGHT CRIME – Jumped in at the start.
 
SWANIC BOOM – From the wide barrier restrained after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
