SAFEWORK – Approaching the 1000m became awkwardly placed at heels and had to be steadied.

ECONOMICS – Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that whilst it was his intention to race in a forward position, however, after pressuring the gelding to cross from a wide alley, it then commenced to over race and for this reason he was obliged to lead the event which was not his intention.

PLUNDERING – Raced in restricted room approaching the 1000m. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until leaving the 200m. Stewards questioned rider J. Guthman-Chester regarding the tactics he adopted on the gelding, in particular jockey Guthman-Chester’s riding rounding the home turn where it appeared there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of TOO HARD TO REFUSE when there was sufficient room to do so which would have availed him clear running in the home straight. After taking evidence from rider J. Guthman-Chester, and stable representative T. Pollard, Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.

BRERETON – Raced keenly for a short distance passing the 700m.

STRIPPED BACK – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

TOO HARD TO REFUSE – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment, jockey J. Byrne stated that the gelding did not begin well and after being caught wide, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward however noted the gelding was inclined to lay in throughout which had an effect on its finishing effort.  A post race veterinary examination revealed TOO HARD TO REFUSE to be exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps.

CELESTIAL SOL – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey S. Collett reported that after being restrained early to a rearward position in an attempt to find cover, the gelding then came off the bridle and never travelled comfortably from that point onwards. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP     1110 Metres

DEFIANT SPIRIT – Jockey M. Rodd could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than that when the gelding was placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to this riding and commenced to weaken from the 150m. ENABLER – Over raced during the early stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight before being disappointed for a run in the early stages of the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice Graham stated that when the pace of the race slackened, the gelding raced keenly and was disappointing in its effort in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Graham stated that she was obliged to settle at the tail of the field and felt that the race was not run to suit, and ideally she would have preferred to trail another runner forward from then 600m, however she was then obliged to shift very wide on the home turn and the mare was inclined to lay in during the early stages of the home straight. She added that, in her opinion, she was not overly disappointed with the performance as the mare finished the race off well.

Race 6: SKY RACING FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP       1110 Metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards interviewed the starter as well as all riders involved in this race. It was established that prior to the start being effected, GLORIOUS RUBY became fractious resulting in rider S. Collett being dislodged. Shortly thereafter, the starter effected the start as he was unaware that GLORIOUS RUBY was riderless at that time. Stewards reviewed the start and after taking submissions from riders M. Rodd (BOLD AND LUCY), V. Duric (NANAGUI), J. Bayliss (AMORE VELOCE) and S. Collett (GLORIOUS RUBY), Stewards determined that as GLORIOUS RUBY was riderless at the time the starter effected the start, pursuant to AR204(1)(a) it was declared a non-runner. Stewards were also satisfied that AMORE VELOCE, BOLD AND LUCY and NANAGUI were all denied the opportunity of a fair start pursuant to AR204(1)(c), Stewards subsequently declared them as non-runners and correct weight was announced with the following deductions.
