Race 1:RACECOURSE VILLAGE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2200 M
 
SOUTHERN STOCK (NZ) – Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 2000m.
 
COUP DE TONNERRE – Passing the 1000m was bumped on a number of occasions by TAVISTORM which attempted to shift out to improve. When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance, Apprentice C. Collis reported that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages, but after being pressured at various stages by TAVISTORM, his mount commenced to weaken passing the 400m and ran to the line only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
REDWOOD SHADOW (NZ) – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure. Lost off hind plate.
 
INTUITU (FR) – Hampered shortly after jumping away. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
TAVISTORM (NZ) – Approaching the 1500m, had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of GLEN MASSEY (NZ). Over raced in the middle stages. Passing the 1000m, attempted to shift out to improve and when doing so, made contact with COUP DE TONNERRE, bumping that runner on a number of occasions before having to shift back in after being disappointed for that run. Passing the 500m, had difficulty improving into clear running after attempting to shift out to improve. After contacting COUP DE TONNERRE on a number of occasions approaching the 400m, was able to secure clear running on entering the home straight.
 
LIKEABEEL – Momentarily inconvenienced after the start.
 
Race 2: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP   1110 M
 
SHOWS A SIGN – Near the 200m was bumped by MOULIN MISS.
 
CLIMACTIC – Passing the 1000m, raced in restricted room and as a result became awkward in its stride passing the 900m. Jockey L. Tilley was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Obliged to shift wider on entering the home straight to improve. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey J. Orman reported that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages, but after shifting out on entering the home straight, his mount commenced to wander. He further added that given it’s the colts second start, it would derive benefit from today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KAHLISEE – Passing the 900m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels, shifted out and commenced to race fiercely in the middle stages.
 
MISHANI STORM – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 850m whilst racing in restricted room.
 
MOULIN MISS – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.
 
WARRIOR HEAD – Passing the 850m, raced in restricted room when awkwardly placed at the heels of SHOWS A SIGN which shifted in.
 
SHEZA CHIQUITITA – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 3:CELEBRATING HORSES' BIRTHDAY BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1110 M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey B. Thornton, rider of 2nd place getter JAYANTHI against 1st place getter BRERETON ridden by R. Maloney, alleging interference over the final 50m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the Steward’s footage were of the opinion that in the final 100m, BRERETON commenced to shift out to a point near the 50m and made contact with JAYANTHI before being corrected. Stewards when considering the level of interference, how both runners finished the race off and the proximity to the winning post, could not be comfortably satisfied that should the incident not have occurred, JAYANTHI would have won the race and as such, dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.
 
RALPHIE – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after jumping. Over raced in the middle stages. Passing the 700m had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of BURNISH GOLD. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Approaching the 250m had to be checked after being disappointed for a run between MATILLY and INTRODUCING.
 
BRERETON – Laid out under pressure.
 
INTRODUCING – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NANAGUI – Began awkwardly.
 
BURNISH GOLD – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the 2nd occasion and to be displaying clinical signs of cardiac arrythmia. As this was the second such bleeding attack, under the provisions of AR79(6) Trainer R. Lipp was advised that mare would now incur a lifetime ban from racing in Australia. 
 
MATILLY –When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor stated that in his opinion the mare was unable to sustain the fast early tempo of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
JAYANTHI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 50m.
 
Race 4: NATIONAL JOCKEY CELEBRATION DAY CLASS 3 PLATE 1200 M
 
ATMOSPHERE – Passing the 1000m, was momentarily inconvenienced and obliged to shift wider when having to avoid the heels of THE INFLICTOR which shifted in. When weakening in the home straight, had a tendency to lay in. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey A. Jones reported her mount proved disappointing and had no explanation for today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Bruce reported he will push on with the preparation but will consider some gear changes and potentially stepping up in distance.
 
DAYTONA – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
DEPTH CHARGE – Approaching the 1000m was buffered and had to be restrained and lost its rightful running. Apprentice M. Castle rider of THE INFLICTOR was charged and pleaded guilty to careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that passing the 1000m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of TRES REDOUTE which was carried in and onto DEPTH CHARGE ridden by G. Cartwright and as a result, DEPTH CHARGE had to be restrained to avoid heels and lost its rightful running. Apprentice M. Castles licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight 12/8/2024 up to and including midnight 20/8/2024. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey G. Cartwright reported that after suffering interference in the early stages, her mount was reluctant to travel throughout the rest of the event.  
 
MINTAKA LAD – Raced wide throughout.
 
MISHANI RENEGADE – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
REBEL SHADOW – Passing the 1000m became awkwardly placed at the heels of DEPTH CHARGE which was obliged to steady. Over raced in the middle stages.
 
TORQUE I TEE – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 1000m.
 
CASTILLIAN (NZ) – Buffered for a number of strides near the 1000m.
 
TRES REDOUTE – Approaching the 1000m, tightened for running and commenced to over race. Continued to over race in the middle stages.
 
Race 5: CASCADE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP         1630 M
 
LE HEROS – Trainer P. Duncan was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
 
PERSEVERE – Apprentice M. Castle reported her mount failed to let down as expected in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TAKUNAI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Jockey R. Jamieson reported her mount made the first turn awkwardly.
 
KALUMBURU – Restrained after the start to a rearward position. Obliged to steady passing the 600m after becoming awkwardly placed on heels.
 
POUTCHEK (GB) – Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment on today’s performance Jockey C. Graham reported that her mount may not have appreciated today’s firmer track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainers’ representative for R. Heathcote advised that he would report back in the coming days on the condition of the mare.
 
EXPRESS PAYMENT – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 6:BECOME A BRC MEMBER OPEN HANDICAP         1630 M
 
LORD ARDMORE (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
WITHOUT REVENGE (GB) – Began awkwardly. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported his mount proved disappointing and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer C. Geran advised that he would report back on the condition of the gelding over the coming days.
 
SEA RAIDER – Raced wide throughout.
 
STUTTERING – Began awkwardly.
 
ITA – Raced wide throughout.
 
NAVAS TWO – Slow to begin. Passing the 350m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LORD ARDMORE (NZ) which shifted out to improve. Jockey M. Rodd rider of LORD ARDMORE (NZ) was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that in his opinion the gelding failed to run out the 1630m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer A. Campton was fined $300 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch a dual acceptor by the prescribed time.

GOLDEEL – Lost near fore plate in running.
 
THE CATCH – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 7: U&U RECRUITMENT OPEN HANDICAP 1050 M
 
BRUDENELL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in it’s near hindleg. Trainer K. Lees was advised RUBIQUITOUS would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
RUBIQUITOUS – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
HARDWARE LANE – Slow to begin.
 
VODKA MARTINI – Began awkwardly. Trainer K. Schweida was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.
 
ECONOMICS – Raced wide throughout.
 
GLORIOUS RUBY – Passing the 550m became awkward in its stride. When asked to comment, Jockey S. Collet advised that in her opinion that the mare anticipated racing inside of horses.
 
Race 8: THE GIBSON CLASS 6 PLATE 1350 M
 
SAILOR'S SECRET – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey C. Graham stated in her opinion the gelding proved very disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida stated that it was now his intention to send the gelding for a spell.  
 
WAIRERE FALLS (NZ) – Bumped after the start.
 
ATLANTIC OCEAN – Began awkwardly.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
IVAN'S HERO – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Laid in over the concluding stages before being corrected.
 
TOO HARD TO REFUSE – Bumped after the start.
 
Race 9: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
The start of this race was delayed when SIR WARWICK refused to load. SIR WARWICK was declared a late scratching at 4:26pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on SIR WARWICK be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – MY SNOW QUEEN – 6c win, 7c place
2nd – MANHOOD – 6c place
3rd – SAFEWORK – 8c place
 
Trainer J. Capewell was advised that SIR WARWICK would require a further barrier certificate.
 
EF TROOP – Bumped after the start.
 
SWEET MARGOT MAY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running over the final 100m and was unable to be fully tested in the run to the finish.
