AdamsStewards – G. Goold, J. Williamson, S. Fletcher, A. Schofield, O. Legg SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTFrom Sunshine Coast 21/8/2024 – Race 3Jockey R. Maloney rider of BUFFET was charged and pleaded guilty to careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that near the 400m he directed his mount out in order to secure clear running when not clear of QUEEN OF DARK causing that horse to be checked and lose ground. Jockey R. Maloney’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, commencing midnight 24/8/2024 up to and including midnight 5/9/2024. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. ROCKY RICH – Laid out under pressure approaching the 100m. JUST PRECIOUS – Began awkwardly. SHEZA CHIQUITITA – Became awkwardly placed at heels when racing in restricted room near the 400m between CREATIVITY MISS and TESSATORI which shifted out marginally. Laid in under pressure. FREE CARRY – When questioned regarding the performance of FREE CARRY, Apprentice E. Lang stated that her mount was pressured for a significant period from the 1200m to the 800m and failed to settle. Bruce advised a change of tactics, and MORE TROUBLE (NZ) would be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Lost near fore plate. TANNENBURG – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 150m was obliged to alter course and shift in after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of the weakening KIND WISH (NZ). TAMBOURINE MAN – Bumped after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in today’s event, Apprentice M. Castle in the presence of her master C. Meagher stated that she was instructed to settle in a prominent position and after beginning fairly, was obliged to urge her mount in the early stages to cross and obtain a position to the outside of FREE CARRY. She added that she was unaware of the fast early tempo and that both her mount and FREE CARRY had established a significant gap to the remainder of the field. Apprentice M. Castle also added that she had been mindful of TAMBOURINE MAN’s last start when FREE CARRY was permitted to lead without being challenged, so rode her mount to maintain a position at the flank of FREE CARRY for an extended period. Apprentice M. Castle added that she commenced to place her mount under pressure passing the 800m and on entering the home straight, her mount commenced to weaken. Apprentice M. Castle accepted that in hindsight, she should have made an effort to restrain TAMBOURINE MAN in the early stages rather than pressure the gelding over a significant distance. Stewards were of the opinion that Apprentice M. Castle erred in riding her mount to maintain a position outside of the lead and should have restrained to take up a position behind FREE CARRY. In considering the matter, Stewards did not believe Apprentice M. Castle’s ride was culpable but was below the acceptable standard of a Metropolitan Apprentice and under AR144(2) advised Apprentice M. Castle must attend the Riders Skills Panel for remedial and technical assistance. PICK ZA BEANS – Raced in restricted room passing the 1300m. KIND WISH (NZ) – Laid in during the early stages.
