SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Doomben 7 September 2024 – Race 9: EUREKA STUD BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP (1600m)

TANNENBURG – Trainer’s representative B. Killion advised that following the late scratching of the gelding after becoming fractious in the barriers, the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

Race 1: THE GIBSON MAIDEN PLATE (1110m)

ELEVEN BLACK – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SPIRITED SON – Began awkwardly and shifted in before being hampered between runners and lost ground. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Steadied off heels when racing keenly near the 700m.

STARSONUS – When asked to comment on the performance, Rider J. Orman stated that the gelding was inclined to race greenly throughout the event and would derive benefit from the experience. He further added in his opinion, it would be better suited over further distances.

IVY DEXSTRESS – Raced keenly for some distance passing the 700m when the pace slackened and steadied off heels. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

SULTRY SIREN – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

CALL SIGN – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

VIALE – Began awkwardly before being hampered between runners soon after the start.

TURN THE CORNER – Slow to begin before being shifted behind runners in the early stages.

ROTHAFELLA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Commenced to hang-out from the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer D. Bougoure was advised that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again.

ZOUGO BOSS – Began awkwardly before shifting in and bumped heavily. Raced in restricted room for several strides rounding the home-turn to the inside of ICED CHOCOLATE which shifted in. Rider R. Maloney (ICED CHOCOLATE) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.


Race 2: CASCADE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1650m)

PERFECT ENCOUNTER – When asked to comment on the performance, Rider J. Huxtable reported that the gelding failed to travel at any stage of the event and commenced to weaken upon entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

FREE CARRY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice E. Lang reported that her mount travelled well in the early and middle stages, however proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

CAVAUP – When asked to comment on the performance, Rider A. Mallyon reported that the mare travelled strongly in the early and middle stages, however commenced to weaken badly when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps and a slow recovery.

FLYING BIRDS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

MOOTESSA – Began awkwardly. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn, before when attempting to shift out to obtain clear running, bumped with BITOFTHEBLARNEY, hampering and carrying that runner wider.

SHOWMAN (NZ) – Slow to begin. Was obliged to alter course and shift in off the heels of CAVAUP which was weakening to obtain clear running.

BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Hampered and carried wider when MOOTESSA attempted to shift out to obtain clear running rounding the home-turn. Rider N. Beriman (MOOTESSA) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.


Race 3: SPRING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW MAIDEN PLATE (1650m)

CASANOVA MAN (NZ) – Slow to begin.

PAPAL WARS (NZ) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

SHABOOH SHALAA – Harmless dislodged Rider R. Maloney enroute to the barriers. Rider Maloney was subsequently deemed fit to fulfill his remaining engagements. Became fractious in the barriers resulting in its off-hindleg becoming cast for a significant period. Subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1:45pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful placed prior to 1:45pm:

31 cents in the dollar for the win
21 cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
23 cents in the dollar for 2nd place
22 cents in the dollar for 3rd place

Trainer D. Vandyke was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding obtaining a further barrier certificate before racing again.

EFFIE'S JOY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid-out rounding the home-turn. Held-up for clear running approaching the 200m before being directed out abruptly across the heels of MINGARDOS passing the 200m to obtain clear running. Apprentice T. Fenlon was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Apprentice Fenlon was further advised that the matter would be referred to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Team.

CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hindleg. Trainer N. McCall was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.

MINGARDOS (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PRIDE OF SAVABELLA – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages between PAPAL WARS which laid out and VANGUARD LEGEND which laid in simultaneously.

VANGUARD LEGEND – Began awkwardly and bumped. Leaving the 1400m, steadied before commencing to over-race for several strides when crossed by PRIDE OF SAVABELLA. Rider C. Graham (PRIDE OF SAVABELLA) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 4: U&U RECRUITMENT CLASS 1 PLATE (1650m)

LIETUVA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Rider R. Maloney reported that the gelding travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer D. Forster advised that the gelding would most likely be sent for a spell.

WEST CORK – Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1000m. Commenced to give ground abruptly leaving the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrythmia for the first occasion. Trainer M. Faulkner was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG prior to completing a satisfactory 1000m gallop before racing again.

AERIAL BAY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly for some distance leaving the 1300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FEATHERTOP (GB) – Raced in restricted room for several strides near the 250m.

FREEMAN – Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn. Passing the 200m, shifted out in an attempt to improve before becoming held-up again. Raced in restricted room thereafter and unable to obtain clear running at any stage.

WITH DIAMONDS – Blundered on jumping before being shifted behind runners in the early stages.

GINASUE – Held-up for clear running approaching the 100m.


Race 5: C&H RECRUITMENT QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1350m)

HE'S FINESSE (NZ) – Bumped soon after the start when DESERT LEGEND shifted out.

HEADLINE LEGEND – When asked to comment on the performance, Rider R. Dolan could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer L. Freedman reported that he would now have the gelding undergo a veterinary examination on return to his stables and undertook to report back on the subsequent results of this. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

LINWAR – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Improved onto heels near the 800m and obliged to be steadied. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

LUCKY JOKER – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Steadied off the heels of LINWAR near the 600m which shifted in whilst simultaneously laying out. When asked to comment on the performance, Rider T. Marshall advised that the gelding was inclined to race greenly throughout the event and in his opinion, may benefit from the addition of blinkers. Trainer P. Wallace concurred with the opinion of Rider Marshall. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

UNEGA WAHY'A – Bumped on jumping.

WAYFARER'S WAY – Began awkwardly.

AIMA SUN – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of event.

JUST PRECIOUS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Rider J. Orman reported that the filly did not breathe comfortably throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

MARAGICAL – Bumped on jumping.

DESERT LEGEND – Began awkwardly and bumped.

SILK WARRIOR – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

LARIDAE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.


Race 6: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1110m)

KEMI ZABI – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.

REMLAPS ANGEL – Over-raced throughout the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home-turn.

JOJO RABBIT – Began awkwardly. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 100m when THE ASTRONOMER shifted out under pressure.


Race 7: SKY RACING CLASS 4 HANDICAP (1350m)

PENTITO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

BEEBEE DAZZLER – Momentarily held up for clear running entering the home straight. Passing the 200m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of SENSCHAL for a considerable distance and as such had to be restrained for several strides before being obliged to shift in passing the 100m to improve into clear running.

SENESCHAL (IRE) – Rider R. Dolan advised after beginning well from an outside barrier, and the tempo being only moderate in the early stages, he elected to stride forward to sit outside the leader, and consequently settled further forward than may have been expected. Raced keenly for some distance near the 1000m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

TIJUANA TWO STEP – Held-up for some distance leaving the 300m, before shifting out and around from the heels of TOO HARD TO REFUSE to obtain clear running.

ZATTASTAR – Began awkwardly.


Race 8: LADBROKES RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1350m)

SHADYVALE STORM – Blundered on jumping.

TWYFORD – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

ZAKIYYA – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.

YES TO EXCESS – Reared on jumping and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

INTRECCIATO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Commenced to over-race for some distance leaving the 800m and obliged to steady from heels. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

CARDSHARP – Momentarily held-up for clear running entering the home straight.
