SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Trainer M. Morrison was fined $300 under the provisions of LR43, for having two staff members at his stables which were unlicensed. In determining penalty, Stewards considered M. Morrison’s forthright evidence, guilty plea and his clear record in relation to this rule.
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
 
Race 4: WHISKY TRAIN - Jockey M. Rodd +0.5kg (56kg)
 
Jockey N. Callow was unable to attend todays meeting due to personal reasons and was replaced as per the race day summary.

Race 1: XXXX SIDELINE BEER GARDEN 3 MAY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP         1640 M
 
EXPLOSIVE POWER (NZ) – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
DUKEDOM – Passing the 1100m, had to be steadied after the pace of the race slackened. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey R. Maloney was reprimanded pursuant AR 132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides.
 
ROYAL GLADIATOR – Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 1000m, when the pace of the race slackened, shifted out whilst over-racing and shortly thereafter shifted back in, hampering MASERATI LADY. Raced wide without cover from the 1000m.
 
CHONKY DIVA – Slow to begin.
 
CASTELVETRANO – Passing the 1000m, when the pace of the race slackened, had to be restrained off the heels of DUKEDOM. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
MASERATI LADY – Over-raced in the early stages, and at a point passing the 1400m became awkwardly placed at heels and shifted out. Continued to over-race in the middle stages. Passing the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened, had to be restrained off the heels of ROYAL GLADIATOR.
 
PARISIENNE PIPER – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped with CALL SIGN.
 
KOBABILITY – Over-raced in the early stages. Obliged to alter course passing the 200m to obtain clear running.
 
 
CALL SIGN– Shifted in on jumping away and bumped withPARISIENNE PIPER. Passing the 1400m, had to be restrained off the heels of ROTHELLY, which shifted in to obtain cover. As a result, CALL SIGN was obliged to shift wider on the track and over raced for a short distance thereafter.
 
BACCARAT ROUGE – Passing the 1000m, when the pace of the race slackened, had to be restrained from the heels of CASTELVETRANO. Approaching the 600m had to be restrained after improving onto heels.
 
Race 2: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 13 JUNE FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE         1350 M

AMATERASU - Jockey M. Rodd reported that he had concerns with the mare’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Heinrich was asked to report back on the mares condition in the coming days.
 
TAJALAT (IRE) – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
TANGO SPIRIT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a hematoma on its right shoulder. Trainer A. Chau was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing.
 
CHAMPAGNE ROUGE – Raced wide without cover.
 
DIVINE DI - Shortly after the start, bumped with MARGOT'S STAR for a number of strides. Passing the 80m, was momentarily inconvenienced by CHAMPAGNE ROUGE which shifted out to improve.
 
FASHION FLASH – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have bled in one nostril. Trainer S. Laxon was advised that FASHION FLASH would be stood down pursuant AR 79(8) and must 1000m gallop/trial in presence of a steward prior to racing again.
 
 
LOVEY DOVEY – Slow to begin.
 
MARGOT'S STAR – Shortly after the start, bumped with DIVINE DI for a number of strides. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
MISS HIGHFALUTIN (NZ) – Laid in during the early part of the home straight. Jockey A. Jones was reminded of her obligations to ride her mount out to the finish.
 
Race 3: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE  1350 M
 
BUSKER – When asked to comment on the performance of BUSKER, Apprentice E. Lang reported that after a gear change of blinkers off, the gelding was disappointing when asked for an effort.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
IL PATRIGNO – Began awkwardly.
 
KALAMIA KING – Slow to begin. Jockey J. Stanley reported that after jumping away he became concerned with the action of his mount and after testing the gelding for a short distance, KALAMIA KING commenced to hang and as such he elected to not place the gelding under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be shin sore in its off foreleg. Trainer J. Zielke was advised that a veterinary certificate and official barrier trial would be required prior to racing. Trainer J. Zielke reported that KALAMIA KING would now be sent for a spell.
 
NINJITZOU – When asked to comment on the performance of NINJITZOU, Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that he had to make use of the gelding in the early stages from a wide barrier and was disappointed in its finishing efforts. He further added that in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery. Stable representative J. Coetz reported that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
REMLAP KAVA – Whilst over racing in the middle stages, shifted three wide and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
Race 4: STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW CLASS 1 HANDICAP  1640 M
 
CARPACCIO – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that CARPACCIO would attempt tosettle at the rear of field with cover. Ridden accordingly.
 
SHAKE'N'BAKE – Over-raced in the early stages. A short distance passing the 200m, was momentarily held up on the heels of the weakening WHISKY TRAIN(NZ) before being able to shift out approaching the 100m.
 
WHISKY TRAIN (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 1300m, shifted out after improving onto heels and was allowed to stride forward to obtain a leading position. When questioned regarding WHISKY TRAIN leading in today’s event, Jockey M. Rodd stated that after finding itself forward in the early stages, as the pace of the race slackened, his mount began to over-race and after becoming awkwardly placed on heels he elected to shift out to allow his mount to stride forward and take up a leading position.
 
Race 5: XXXX GOLD CLASS 5 HANDICAP   1640 M
 
TYNDRUM GOLD (GB) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stable representative T. Pollard stated that he was disappointed with the performance of the gelding and would have TYNDRUM GOLD (GB) examined by the stable veterinary and would report back to Stewards the future racing plans in the coming days.
 
SMART LEGEND – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Rolled in marginally over the concluding stages.
 
BOLD HOI HO (NZ) – Trainer S. Taylor advised a change of tactics in that BOLD HOI HO (NZ) would attempt to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. When questioned regarding Jockey C. Grahams riding over the final 30m, she stated that her mount failed to respond to riding efforts early in the straight, however improved quickly over the concluding stages and as such took hold to avoid the heels of SMART LEGEND, which rolled in marginally.
 
SMART AS SMART – Made heavy contact with CACOFONIX on jumping away, and as a result Jockey A. Mallyon became unbalanced.Rider reported that his saddled shifted to the side shortly after jumping away, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Was disappointed for a run passing the 200m between PEROVIC and TYNDRUM GOLD (GB) and after shifting out passing the 100m was again held up for clear running over the concluding stages after CACOFONIXlaid in. When questioned regarding if Jockey A. Mallyon had an opportunity to improve to the outside of CACOFONIXwhen passing the 600m, he stated that as his saddle and weight had shifted to the inside, his mount was reluctant to move outwards and as such elected to ride for luck.  
 
SERENADE THE CAT – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, contacting CHANCE WITH WOLVES.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Jumped away awkwardly and was hampered shortly after. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST MARCH BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP       1350 M
 
CHIEF WITNESS – Approaching the 1000m was obliged to steady after being crossed by MORE TROUBLE (NZ), which steadied the pace.  Apprentice E. Lang the rider of MORE TROUBLE (NZ) was cautioned in regard to steading the pace whilst crossing.
 
MORE TROUBLE (NZ) – When questioned regarding the performance of MORE THAN TROUBLE (NZ), Apprentice E. Lang reported that after settling forward, MORE THAN TROUBLE (NZ) failed to respond when asked for an effort over the concluding stages. She further added that the intention was the gelding would step up in distance moving forward. Trainer J. Bruce confirmed that MORE THAN TROUBLE (NZ) would step up in distance to a mile and added that he was pleased with the geldings last start at the Sunshine Coast however it was evident today that after obtaining a leading position, MORE TROUBLE (NZ)  was unable to finish off the event and in his opinion would be better suited to further distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KIND WISH (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a minor laceration on its off hindleg.
 
RED RED WINE – In the vicinity of the 1200m was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of KIND WISH (NZ) which shifted in before being corrected. Jockey C. Graham the rider of KIND WISH (NZ), was severely reprimanded under AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
NICKELBACK – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages of the event. Momentarily held up for clear running passing the 200m and was obliged to shift out.
 
YES TO EXCESS – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING CLASS 3 HANDICAP  1200 M

KEEP SAFE – Hampered inside the final 100m by THANKYOU HENRY which shifted out and contacted the geldings’ hindquarters.
 
QUOTHQUAN – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
 
IMPENDOR – Raced wide without cover.
 
VELOCE METEOR – Began awkwardly.
 
MISSILE ONE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CRYMENOTEARS – Commenced to over-race after being crossed at the 1000m.
 
Race 8:LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP    1110 M

TARPS - Raced wide.
 
EAGLE HAWK STAR – Inconvenienced at the start when RICH MINX shifted out on jumping away and as a result was slow into stride.
 
RICH MINX – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Jockey R. Maloney reported that his mount failed to settle at any stage of the event. Trainer M. Hoysted stated that after being first up today and over-racing throughout the event he expects an improved performance next start however would report back on the mare’s condition to Stewards in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PRINCE OF SOOVIEW – Raced wide. Jockey C. Graham reported that the gelding felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
WRITTY – Connections advised stewards of a change of tactics in that from a wide barrier they would attempt to settle back and look for cover. Ridden accordingly.
 
ETUDE – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
