QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.6.2.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr C. Clifford, Mr C. McLune,Mr R. Sanders.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 8M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: SHAME H'CAP - 1400M.

NARWHAL jumped awkwardly.

Making the first turn, TALK ABOUT REAL commenced to pull hard.


RACE 2: ARAGEN H'CAP - 2200M.

Making the turn out of the straight, LOOP THE LOUP commenced to overrace and shifted out, forcing BOOEYHACKER wider on the track. LOOP THE LOUP continued to overrace until after leaving the 1200m..


RACE 3: MAHOGANY H'CAP - 1000M.

BALEZE began awkwardly.

GLITZY CARTON and CROWN REGATTA were slow to begin.

Near the 900m., KOBI COVE raced ungenerously and had to be steadied off the heels of MISS DANTE, which shifted in. D. Tanti, rider of MISS DANTE, was advised to be 2 lengths clear in future when shifting ground.

Approaching the 800m., CAPRILL shifted in, taking DANE BROGUE in on to JILIGAN. KOBI COVE, which was following, had to be steadied off the heels of JILIGAN and as a result shifted out. Trainer M. Mair was advised that a warning would be placed on KOBI COVE in relation to its racing manners.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that following the event SENIOR PROM was found to be suffering from heat stress.


RACE 4: CHORTLE H'CAP - 1600M.

HELLO PUMPKIN and PEDRO'S POWER came together on jumping away.

M. Dracos reported that he intended to settle INITIAL CHIEF behind the leaders in the early stages, however when joined by THE APACHE KID, INITIAL CHIEF commenced to overrace and he was obliged to allow the gelding to slide forward. Following the performance of INITIAL CHIEF, trainer B. Brown stated that the gelding was not suited to leading and in future would be instructing his riders to settle the gelding back in the field if at all possible. He added that the horse was slightly distressed after the race.


RACE 5: MR SHANNON H'CAP - 1200M.

As L. Morrison was indisposed, K. Yoshida was substituted as the rider of PINK PONTIAC.

The start was delayed when CANTRIP had to be resaddled.

VANDA BLUSH proved difficult to load. Trainer G. Flick was advised that a warning would be placed on VANDA BLUSH in relation to the horse's barrier manners.

VANDA BLUSH jumped awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

PINK PONTIAC ran wide making the first turn.

TICKET PLEASE hung out making the home turn.

A veterinary examination of TICKET PLEASE revealed the filly to be sore in the near fore superficial flexor tendon.

TOUCH OF LARCENY was also examined and found to be lame in the near fore leg.


RACE 6: ZAMOFF H'CAP - 1000M.

A swab sample was taken from BUTCH WESTON.


RACE 7: THE GUIDA H'CAP - 1300M.

NATTIE and CHAR AZTEK came together on jumping away.

Near the 1100m., TRIPLE MAC had to be steadied off the heels of CHAR AZTEK, which shifted in. M. McDonald, rider of CHAR AZTEK, was advised to exercise more care in future.

A. Abrahams eased EUSTON ROAD out of the event after leaving the 400m.. When questioned, A. Abrahams stated he could not detect anything amiss with EUSTON ROAD, however the horse did not respond to his riding at any stage of the event. A veterinary examination of EUSTON ROAD failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer N. Stewart undertook to advise stewards of anything that may come to his attention in the days following the race that may have had some bearing on the horse's disappointing performance. N. Stewart was advised that EUSTON ROAD would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.

In the early stages of the straight, TRIPLE MAC was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

BRAVE COURT and CHAR AZTEK raced wide throughout the event.



RACE 8: STAR OF THE KNIGHT H'CAP - 1300M.

On jumping away, PATRICIA CATHERINE shifted in and made contact with SHANKADI.

At the entrance to the straight, PATRICIA CATHERINE was held up for clear running until after leaving the 400m..

OPAL RAINBOW was held up for clear running from the 350m. to the 250m..

Approaching the finish line, DECORAIGH was momentarily tightened for room between OPAL RAINBOW and PATRICIA CATHERINE, which shifted in.

Apprentice M. McDonald was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on STAGE FLASH in the early stages. M. McDonald stated that the filly began well from his outside barrier however he was obliged to race wide for the first 200m.. He added that he then allowed STAGE FLASH to stride forward to the lead. Trainer K. Tinsley indicated that his instructions to M. McDonald were that the filly would show early speed, and to race behind the leader if at all possible. Stewards advised M. McDonald that he should have shown more endeavor to follow the instructions, instead of allowing the filly to stride forward to the lead, which resulted in STAGE FLASH running fast sectional times for the first 700m.. before compounding over the concluding stages.


ALL WINNERS AND BUTCH WESTON WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
